I feel like I'm coming down with something.  Im exhausted, my throat is scratchy... do any of you continue to work out when you're feeling sick?  Im already stuck in a plateau (FOR A MONTH!) so I'm REALLY nervous about not walking the 5-6 miles a day I'm trying to make my "norm".

Hi!

If you've been stuck in a holding pattern for that long and kept the activity up, taking a day off shouldn't have any negative effects.  I know it's easy for me to forget that I am losing this weight to be healthier, so pushing my body when I'm not feeling well is counter-productive!

Be sure to drink lots and lots of water- hot water with lemon and honey will feel really nice on your poor throat too.

And hey, if you're lucky you'll have a stomach bug and drop 5 pounds, right?  (J/K!  Remember in "the Devil wears Prada" when Emily tells Andy "I'm only a stomach flu away from my goal weight"!? LOL!)

Thanks :)  I don't think I'd get much done anyway, even if I tried.

PS:  your jumping pics are beautiful - professionally done? (rode hunter-jumper 8 years ;) )

There's a general rule of thumb about working out when sick.  If I remember correctly, it's this:  1.  If you have a fever, you should NOT exercise; 2.  If your symptoms are located above the chest (i.e., stuffy head; runny nose), it's generally safe to exercise at a moderate intensity if you feel up to it; 3.  If the symtpoms are below the head (i.e., chest congestion), you should not work out until the symptoms are clear.

Personally, if I have a  mild head cold, I'll exercise if I feel up to it, but if I don't feel up to it, I take the day off and pamper myself :).

Hope you feel better soon!

I have a cold, not a super-horrible one, but it's there and it's very bothersome.  I still got up at 4:30 a.m. to teach my 5 a.m. cycle class.  After I was done I felt better.  Really.  I was very apprehensive about doing it, but afterwards I felt better.  Something about sweating a little.  Now, I don't know if it's actually good for you...just my two cents.

Im the same way.. If Im not feeling well I go to the gym. always feel better in general after

I know this is an old thread but does anyone else do this?  I got home from work yesterday and just didn't feel well (throat hurt really bad).  I took some NyQuil and was in bed at 7:30!  I got up this mroning at 8:00 so I didn't work out.  But I want to work out since I took a break last week and only worked out 3 days!  I really want to get my 5 days in this week and the weekend is crazy I know I won't have time!  I want to go home tonight and do taebo.  I think it will help but my fiance thinks I need to rest more.  I just feel like I have been "resting" more than anything b/c I took a break last week and I want to get back in the swing on things!  And ideas???

Oh man, I'm going through that right now. Frown Got the start of a sore throat on Sunday and went to work with it yesterday. I felt well enough to go to the gym, but did a lower intensity cardio than usual and relaxed the rest of the night. I'm so glad I got it in yesterday because this morning I felt like I've been hit by a truck. I still came to work (I can't afford to miss a day), but I know I'm definately not going to the gym today. I feel terrible because I'm just starting up my gym routine, but I don't want to make myself worse or break out into a cough/sneezing fit at the gym. Today I'll relax and see how I feel tomorrow.

Try to relax as well if you really feel sick and drink some tea. Feel better! Smile
