working out wearing a sauna suit
Has anyone heard of this? Someone told me about working out wearing a sauna suit. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this.
It makes you sweat and get dehydrated, but doesn't do anything for fat loss. Wrestlers do it to make weight for a weigh-in, but in the long term, it doesn't help you lose fat.
I 2nd what amethystgirl said.
I've done it, Amethystgirl is on the money, it's a terrible idea unless you're in a weight class sport and even then it's still probably a really bad idea.
Hi,
I've never worked out in a sauna suite...but I do have these shorts that I wear and they help me sweat a lot more when I work out, like the belt that people wear around their waist to lose excess weight off their mid section, but shorts. Not sure if they help me (haven't really lost anything yet) but I have notice that I sweat a lot more...
getting dehydrated on purpose while working out? why o why? sounds like a terrible idea. you don't lose any fat. any "weight" you lose is water that comes back when you drink. you'll perform less well, and it's just not healthy.
I actually used one of these while on my treadmill at home in the past and lost 25 lbs over a reasonable period of time. (Along with cutting calories) I wasn't dehydrated. It didn't cause any problems. I would use it again. Just makes you sweat and lose some excess water weight.
I don't think it is a good idea. You want to maximize the calories you are burning with the exercise you are doing. This is just sabotaging your peformance. It's going to come back with the next few glasses of water you drink.
Seriously, water has no calories. It is not water you want to lose, but fat. Unless you're really really bloated for some reason, I can see no point of this. And if you are bloated, you're better off getting to the bottom of that.
twt, the sauna suit had nothing to do with losing 25 lbs over a number of months and the calorie deficit had everything to do with it.
All a sauna suit does is make you lose water that you gain back the next day. If anything, it reduces your exercise effectiveness, reduces the number of calories you burn, and makes it take longer to lose weight over time.
I keep seeing this forum and for some reason my eyes or brain or something keep reading it santa suit..
SO I keep laughing out loud ( I am at work with my boss today, I'm sure i'm in for a random drug test soon.) It is soo funny.
All I can think about is someone wearing a santa suit to the gym and lifting weights and running on a treadmill.

In the end, they would both be equally ineffective...
Actually I think santa suit will be more effective since it's heavier and will provide a more intense work out. lol

I agree! Santa Suit it is! should count for added weights!

So you can log your weight -- which allows you to do the following:
- Plot your weight curve
- Analyze the trend of your weight (see under Recent in the figure above)
- Determine the projected target date (see under Overall in the figure above)
