Workout DVD recommendations??!

Quote  |  Reply

Hi All!

So I've decided to quit my gym.... $60 a month is getting too expensive!  I'm going to be working out at home now (going to set up a home gym in my basement).

Any good workout DVD recommendations?!  I'm looking for all types (cardio, weight training, kickboxing, etc...).

Thanks!

I like Tae Bo and the New York City Ballet Workout.

However, my best recommendation is to rent before you buy. That way you don't waste any money buying workouts you hate. (I have done that before). I like Netflix because I can try a lot of different workouts and I can buy the ones I like.

Ohhh good suggestion, as I have Netflix.

Has anyone used Beachbody products?  I'm very curious!

Yes indeedy!

I've only steadily been losing weight since I started using Turbo Jam back in Mayish, and recently.. Or well, 10 weeks ago, I started doing P90x. Veerryy happy with both of 'em. Turbo Jam was extremely fun, P90x is a challenge (and will give you excellent results if you decide to stick to it). I don't really recommend Slim in 6, I absolutely hated that program. It wasn't a huge challenge, the moves weren't unique and different, and it was boring. Never tried Yoga Booty Ballet, but apparently it's fun too. I did a few Power 90 videos, they're "OK" but I think if you've been exercising for a couple of months, it's a better investment to just skip over to P90x.

FYI: I didn't buy mine, but rumor has it buying any of the videos from the website or the phone call is a baaaad idea. Amazon.com or another retailer is a much better idea.

I have the beachbody P-90X program.  It is a pretty serious program but it is worth it.  You see and feel results really quickly.  I'd recommend it.

Go to Collagevideo.com.  That website has every video ever made I swear.  You can type in the specifics of the type of DVD you want and it will come up with suggestions for you.  I have tons of DVDs.  What level of videos are you looking for? Super advanced I would recommend Cathe Fredrick or Amy Bento.  I also have turbo jam and I love it too.  It's great when I am burned out on my super tough DVDs and just want to have fun!

Thanks! i'll check out that website!

I'm probably looking for advanced level videos, as I currently workout 4 to 5 times a week, 45 minutes cardio, 15 minutes toning....

You could get a DVD that includes cardio and weight training.  My suggestion would be Cathe Fredrick's Cardio and Weights.  Its a good one.  It is also includes an all cardio progrm that is super tough.  Oh these DVD's require a step too.

I have a medical condition that doesn't allow me to go to the gym anymore (which I really, really miss).  I use to work out for about 2 hours a day so I understand what you are looking for.  I love Collagevideos.com too but I found that Amazon.com is cheaper for fitness dvd then Collage (I have over 50 fitness dvd's bought thru both places).  My current favorite dvd is The Firm Kettlebell workout.  If you order the dvd it comes with the Kettlebell and so far that has keep me in similar shape as the gym.  The other part of that is when the kettlebell they send gets too light you can buy heavier ones.  I'm also a fan of Turbo Jam but I'm not allowed to use that one anymore because it was too intense per my doctors instructions.

Thanks for the advice!  I'm leaning towards Turbo Jam and The Firm.....

I got to my goal (losing about 40 lbs in 5 months) almost completely by using Turbo Jam and videos with Jillian Michaels (along with calorie counting, of course).  I would recommend anything from either of these series except Jillian's beginner videos, which would just be too easy for you.  And though I have not tried P90X, I am planning to get it once I have a larger home.

I think it's also a good idea to rent before you buy, but if you want to buy a couple to try, I would start with TurboJam "5 rockin' workouts" and Jillian's "30 day shred.  Both can be found on amazon for about 10 bucks each.

I have the 30 day shred and its GREAT!  I bought it from Amazon. I recommend it to everyone!

I'd say anything by Cathe Friedrich.  I've gotten awesome results with them.  Here's her website incase you're interested...www.cathe.com

They are a little pricey, but well worth it!

jillian Michaels 30 day shred.... love it, also do some of the bonus workouts fr p90x... like them too.

i just started jillian michael's 30 day shred.. let me tell you my muscles are aching!!! i read the good reviews on amazon.com and decided to order it.

Also i am not sure if you are into yoga, but if you want to de-stress a bit there is this DVD called "fat-free yoga" by ana brett and ravi singh that i like.

I've been doing one call Max burn bootcamp. I think I got it on line and my legs and rear are so sore. It has cardo and weights and it's tough.

Hi! I have an even cheaper way! youtube....there is a lot of good step, yoga and zumba workouts on there. I also teach step and love to get new ideas from them! There is also alot of crazy workouts on there..make sure you read the feedback...if they have good feedback on the workout its a good workout...b/c fitness people will criticize form if its not done right! Hope that helps and saves you money!

Thanks~

Christi

Thanks for the great ideas!!!!!

I LOVE The Firm. It comes with 4 DVDs and weights so you get strength training and it is easy to increase the difficulty as you get stronger.

Kendriz-

Have you tried The Firm Wave?!  I was curious about it.....
