Hi can anyone help me to pick a weight loss DVD that is any good?
Theres LOADS around, but ive heard alot of them are rubbish and are a waste of money... I'd just like to know if anyone on here uses any workout DVDs and if so were they any good? Also if u have brought a workout DVD & is was rubbish please let me know so i dnt make that mistake of buying it.
Many thanks
oh, also i'm in the UK
I have heard great things about Turbo Jam. I haven't gotten around to getting it myself but soon I will. When I was younger I used to do MTV's yoga DVD, I always liked that but would probably get a different DVD now a days.
I also like Billy blanks Tae bo...although I have had to give this up as i think I always go a bit overboard and my elbows kill for days...but it was fun whilst it lasted and I had made a similar post and loads of people suggested this.
Its not a DVD but get the Wii fit, some of it like the balance games are just a lot of fun and basically work on improving posture/balance but other stuff really gets your heart racing and the way it tracks your weight/bmi etc is really motivating...you can also add extra exercises on to it through a log so it keeps track of what your doing.

have a look at that on youtube...makes you want it now doesnt it!
I'm gonna have a look for it here so if I find it ill let you know cos Im in teh UK too
I'm from UK and loving turbo jam - got it from amazon.
wow!! thank you for the replies and so fast too.. TJ looks brilliant! Something that im sure i can sink my teeth into easily ![]()
VM: did u get it from amazon.com or amazon.co.uk.. as i found it on amazon.co.uk, but id have to buy from a seller as amazon.co.uk don't actually sell it themselves
Hi, I have a small collection of workout DVD's and switch them up if/when I get bored. My favorites are:
1. The Leslie Sansone Walk at Home Series- I use these as more of a "relaxed" workout, although they do make me sweat and work. ($10-$20 each)
2. Tae Bo- I use this one to motivate me and give me a quick burst of confidence. ($10)
3. Turbo Jam- Really fun and challenging! My mom bought it but I have used it more than she has. The only bad part of this one for me is the cost. My mom bought it off the tv and it was $80.00 (6 workouts and hand weights). I found it on Ebay starting at as little as $3.00 for the cardio workout, which is the one I use the most.
4. Prevention Walking Workout: Light workout, about 15- 20 minutes for each workout. I got this free, not sure of the cost.
5. Prevention Drop it with Dance: Fun, but it doesn't make me work very hard. If you get bored some evening you could do it for fun, it doesn't seem like a workout at all. ($10)
I hope this is a little helpful. They can all be ordered off the internet. :)

amazon.co.uk. I did think of getting it from beachbody.com but I don't have the pennies!!!!! The big set that bulma mentioned for $80 sounds great but I am skint these days!! Only thing to watch is if you get it used or get it from ebay it can come minus the plans/other bits n bobs - but I went to beachbody.com website and joined their forum. There's a thread called "starting TJ in May" (or something) where people have been giving the extra information you may be missing (like the order the presenter suggests you do the workouts in) etc.
Hope my post makes sense - but I suspect it is "as clear as mud"!!! If you don't get me post again and I'll try to make better sense next time LOL.
I also use Billy Blanks Tae Bo - it's great! Always feels like a really good workout. You do need to be careful not to overextend though.. afore mentioned sore elbows.. but there's a whole section on the dvd/video that teaches you how to do all the moves and how to avoid injury, it's easy to get carried away though!
This may a little boring but my wife likes Rosemary Conleys whole body workout. Its quite a good workout, I've tried it but I prefer to go out and play sports.
For those not from the UK she used to be on breakfast TV and she looks very good for an old woman :) I figure if someone has been doing this for this long and still looks fit and healthy, its a good workout.
I got it from Amazon.co.uk.
Hmmm never heard of Turbo Jam - I will check it out.
I love The Firm. I enjoy body sculpting (cardio and strength training) and the company has been around for 25 years. I'd say more but I just finished working out and need to get everyone out the door. =)
I have just ordered Billy Blanks Tae-Bo (4 disc one) i looked him up on youtube and it looks great fun, i cant wait to get started!!! Hope it arrives sat morning
His workouts look just like something I can really get into, as ive watched some workout dvds on youtube and they are so plain and boring!!
Thank you all
Shall have to save up and get Turbo Jam as that looks like something i'd throughly enjoy ![]()
For a great cardio workout in a small space Biggest Loser Cardiomax is great - you start out at 20minutes and add 10 minute segments until you can do all 3 workouts back to back - I also love Jillian Michaels new Shred workouts - they're 20 minutes and have 3 diff workouts - they combine cardio, strength and abs for a killer workout - and I just started using Jackie one-on-one - I guess she has a show on Bravo- and she has great strength training workouts for upper body, lower body and core. I am addicted to Exercise TV, a I can do all of these workouts anytime I want plus about 200 more included with the cost of my cable bill! (but I did buy the cardiomax DVD because I loved it so much) - good luck!
it might sound cheesy. but i play ddr. and i do it for like an hour a day. my god, it kills me when i'm done, feels like i've ran 10 miles, but its working. my stomach is almost completely flat, and i'm starting to show a bit of my abs. a good friend of mine who is a personal trainer keeps coming up to me (we see each other about once a week) and he thinks i'm doing some hardcore cardio to get fit. he's so proud of me, and laughs when i tell him i'm just doing ddr and thats it... i've gone from 155 to 146 (i'm 5'7") and thats with only doing ddr for the past, eh, month? and i dont do it everyday... and i eat junk food... :)
What does DDR stand for?
Ever since I started trying to get a bit fitter this year (reaching the "big" 30 and decided I should be "fit for 30") I have become a DVD workout junkie! I live in a very small village and the nearest gym is 45 mins by bus!
My current fave is Nell McAndrew Ultimate challenge: a fast paced cardio workout, which offers bail out sections for those with less time or who aren't quite ready to take it to the next level. Ministry of Sound Dancemix DVD's are great aerobic workouts to a really good beat to keep you nice and motivated. Billy Blanks Tae-Bo is great once you get the moves under control :o)
My biggest surprise to date has been The Jordan Workout, which I picked up simply because it was so cheap! Richard Callender who basically runs the workout is great and a nice counter in the corner of the screen keeps me nice and motivated as I can see how much longer I have to go rather than thinking "I have to do this for HOW LONG??!!"
I could keep going...but I think I'll stop there :oD
DDR=Dance dance Revolution, video game with dance pad
Another big vote for Billy Blanks. My fave so far is Basic Training Bootcamp, which is the first in the Bootcamp series and emphasizes calisthenics. You can buy "Billy Bands" (resistance bands) for more strength training but I don't have them and get a major workout.
I have "Get Celebrity Fit" Cardio (Tae Bo) but there are so many combos for short periods that I miss them and don't get as intense workout. It's fun but I just can't keep up with the moves.
In my personal fitness class in school, we get to choose 2 videos a week, and we sometimes do dance videos that will work on a certain part. Like there is one for abs, and then a cardio one, and they are actually really fun!! You don't even realize your working out, cause your so focused and motivated to learn the dance. But im a dancer, and ive always loved dancing, so if you dont love dancing then idk it might not be the best!
We also have done an 8 minute ab work out DVD and it was actually pretty good and simple.
good luck!
I use Netflix for workout videos. I like having new workouts every week, and it only costs me about $10 a month. I do like a lot of the Firm videos, but some of them require special equipment.
I like the 10-minute solutions set. I try to do atleast 2-3 of them a day. They have 10 minute abs, 10 minute stability ball, 10-minute cardio dance, etc. I love them because they are quick and challenging.
Thank u all
Thought I would share this with you (I have posted it on fitness to but it can apply here too seeing as it involes a DVD):
I was thinking this morning "I want to do some exercise on my rebounder but theres cr*p on telly on a Saturday so nothing to watch. I know I'll listen to music while im doing it, no cant do that as I got nothing to concentrate on/watch and ill be think 'im bored now'.." Then it hit me! I've got some gig DVDs of one of my favourite bands Within Temptation (don't know how many of you have heard of them) and realised that would work great with bouncing on my mini trampoline! I can jump to the music and wave my arms in the arm like I was at the concert!
And I've been doing it all morning and not even realised how long i have been on it for! 50mins went past and I didnt even notice!! im a person that gets bored quickly and only ever really manage 30mins at the most on my mini trampoline at a time, but this idea was brilliant!!!
So any of you out there that have a concert DVD of your fav band(s) and a rebounder, stick it infront of the TV and put your DVD on.. You wont even notice how long u've been on it once u get into the music and start singing along with waving your arms!
