Workout everyday

Quote  |  Reply

I have been working out everyday since Sunday (4 days in a row) Yesterday my arms hurt so I worked on my legs and abs and of course the 30 mins on the treadmill. Well Last night I had so much energy that I could not sleep, (and I was tired). I workout at 2 pm everyday. Well anyway I am drained today... Should I take a break today or at least get on the treadmill. or is this because I didn't sleep?? Is it ok to workout everyday. Or am I killing myself for nothing??

that is a good question because i work out every day also and do wonder if its too much?? but if i don't i feel sluggish all day. i do think your drained because of lack of sleep, that always wreaks havoc on me, but if your really tired i would take the day off , and REST TAKE A NAP

Good luck

I work out for approx an hour and a half every day and last night even though I swear I could have fell asleep on the couch, I went to bed and was up for a long time.  I woke up several times throughout the night.  I am sore, I have a blister on my foot, but I still want to work out today.  I work out 5-6 days a week usually taking Saturday and/or Sunday off.  I remember back in the days of cross country and track we worked out 6 days a week and took Sunday off.  So I think you should have at least one day to recover and if you are that exhausted it is ok to have another.  You would still be working out 5 days which is awesome!

I think you should listen to what your body is telling you - it's telling you it's tired so have a rest!  I think it's only appropriate to exercise EVERY day if you are someone who has been exercising very regularly for a long time (ie, at least a year or two) and even then I don't necessarily think it's a good thing for you.  I don't know what your exercise levels have been like before you started exercising every day but I would suggest working up gradually because it really isn't sustainable and you could end up just setting yourself up to fail if you aim for every day.

Maybe you could try alternating between aerobic exercise and something more restorative, like yoga.  I try to alternate days of running and yoga (but still end up having the odd day of doing nada!)...yoga is still very good exercise and helps to build your strength, tone and flexibility, whilst also being quite restorative for your tired muscles when you've had quite an energetic aerobic/cardiovascular session the day before.  You might find you get more out of both that way and it shold be less exhausting and therefore more sustainable over the long term.

I've gone from working out every day to 6 days a week and now down to 5.  My progress has been virtually the same, but the extra sleep has been great (I work out in the early morning)!!  So I would recommend doing 5 days hard core and then taking two days off.  I don't take off two days in a row (I take Sundays and then Wednesday or Thursday off).  If you're tired, your workout isn't going to be very good, so you're better off resting.

It is just fine to workout every day as long as you are working different muscle groups. Muscles need time to rest in order to grow and continue to burn fat. So if you do cardio every day and then alternate upper and lower body workouts from day to day than you are doing great.

The reason muscles hurt after exercise is that exercising actually creates tiny, microscopic tears in your muscles that allows them to grow and reshape. If you over work one area, it isn't doing anything but potentially draining you and straining your muscles.

Keep up that dedication though, it will pay off. Just listen to your muscles and ensure enough sleep. Sleep is when your muscles work the hardest. If you are having trouble sleeping at night, try working out earlier in the day.

Have a rest love.  Just eat healthily and do something other than exercise that you enjoy.  Your body will thank you for it and your muscles need relazation in order to grow anyway :)

your body definitely needs a break in between working your muscle groups.  if you work the same muscles everyday, they build up a tolerance and you end up not burning as much fat or building as much muscle.  i used to do the same thing and workout for days, sometimes entire weeks without taking a break but my body was definitely screaming at me that it needed rest.  your muscles need to break down in order to grow stronger, and in order for them to recover from the breakdown, they need some rest.  if you really feel that you need to exercise everyday or you feel guilty or that you are not doing enough, then exercise your upper body one day, lower body the next day, then cardio the third day.  rotating the sites you work out will at least give the other sites a break.

I usually work out everyday but I take some days easier than others. Like I have days where I'll work really hard and run 3 miles and then do weights and then i have days where I settle for 30 minutes on the elliptical and stretching. I think a really important aspect of working out that some people look over is that you need to spice up your routine. if you do the same work out at the same intensity everyday, you are bound to hit a plateau because your body will adapt to it and you will no longer find it challenging (not to mention you'll be bored out fo your mind). Try one of the classes your gym offers or try swimming or biking instead of running. It makes your work out go a lot faster too!

Good Luck!

yes, that is a good idea work out four days rest one day. You have to let your muscle recoup. The treadmill for 30 mins is not a problem.

good work! I need the motivation. Tongue out

I would recommend getting a yoga book. Yoga is good for the organs and lymph nodes. Cardio vascular can be strenuous on the body after a while. Do you see people with strained musles looking old early in life.

Yoga three times a week and cardio- weight training. Yoga teaches you how to use your own weight as your weights and makes the movements more complex and gentle on the body.. toning the musles in a much better way than lifting heavy weights.  Some of my friends do yoga five times a week.. 60-90 minutes and they look really healthy. Then they swim and this is more pleasant for them and their skin looks healthy and their hair shines.

Body wears out the joints with all these machines.  Take care. Some people know how to use them but many dont. I am one of them. I use the machines with care.

I do cardio 6 days a week and strength training 3 days a week.  I do about an hour and a half cardio on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, and I spend the same amount of time doing cardio and strength training on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.  I take Fridays off because that's usually date night with hubby so it's pretty much my cheat day.
