no workout for me, can I still lose weight?
so I get injured. the doctor said no physical activities. so no gym, no walking or running or weight training. How am i suppose to lose weight during the next two months?
Is a calorie deficit enough?
It might be slower, because you can't have as high a deficit, but yes, you lose weight just by having a deficit.
How were you injured? No walking, even?? :(
I don't think starving yourself or calorie deficit would do you any good. This would trigger your body's survival mechanism and you get into lots of trouble with losing weight later on. I think a healthy diet with lots of vegies and water is the best way to go.
Good luck
I must have missed where she said that she'd be starving herself...?? Where'd you get that?
A calorie deficit is how you lose weight. It doesn't have to be a large deficit.
Exercise is good for you and it helps you create a calorie deficit but all you need to do to lose weight is to maintain a calorie deficit over time.

Exactly.
You don't have to exercise to lose weight. Exercise will help build muscle, keep skin tighter (thus make long term weight loss possibly not result in as much loose skin), and make it easier to lose weight... but it's not the end of the losing weight. Heal up & count calories during this down time. Take care of your body so you can get back to exercise without as much potential for re-injury.
thanks guys.I have pain in my right side. it is either a muscle strain or a fracture in my rib bone. I injured myself after I doubled the weight in my last weight training session and the result was a severe pain in my right side.:((
the doctor said brisk walking is more likely going to cause me pain. I actually don't care about the pain but I want that muscle to heal.
any suggestions for exercises that don't involve this area? I think I just have a bad luck this year.
That sucks - next time, just increase the weight a little at a time - no rush, right?
Slow walking? Just to be moving a little. But most everything somehow involves your core, so things like biking, swimming, and weights don't seem like they'd be in the cards til you heal. Rest is a good thing!
NightC1 returns from his 1 year hiatus. How are things?
The only problem with no activity is that is what affects your fat cells. Fat cells cannot grow in number they can only grow in size. They grow depending on the amount activity you do. This is referred to as the set point theory. Your metabolism will be slower and for the most part you wont lose healthy weight by eating less. Your best bet is to just eat healthy eat a variety of fruits and vegetables so your body has vitamins and phytochemicals. Eat consistently and drink lots of water to do as much as you can to keep your metabolism as high as you can so you burn as much energy when your not working out. hang in there
Something you might consider is to jumping on a mini-trampoline, also called rebounding. It doesn't put strenuous pressure on your joints and bouncing motion works with gravity to impact all of your body. You can lightly jump or jump to music. This is what I do twice a day, although I am not injured, it is fun to do and works up a sweat! I just have an inexpensive one from Walmart, maybe in the near future I will spend more money and get a better one. Just for starting though I didn't want to spend a bunch of money until I know I'll stick with it. You might consider this an option though as there is no hard impact against the ground. Hope you heal up soon!
Proof you can lose without exercise.
25lbs in 5months, only counting calories and going under all the time. (Not starvation under, just 400-500calories under maintainence.)
I find it easier to count calories then to overestimate the number of calories you think you burned excersizing.
