Workout Music
What are your favorite tunes to work out to? I like to freshen up my MP3 player every week or so with new songs. I am nearly unable to work out unless I have music blasting in my ears. I love many genres...![]()
I've been listening to a lot of Benny Benassi in the gym. It's pretty much my default cardio music! Then when I'm lifting, I like more agressive songs, like Bawitdaba and Nickleback's version of Saturday's Alright for Fighting , Metallica's Enter Sandman, etc. And If I'm feeling girly, I like having Black Eyed Peas Pump It, Bootylicious by Destiny's Child, or anything Gwen Stefani.
Mashups are fun too... Country Grammar with Sweet Home Alabama, or In da Club with Satisfaction.
I second the Metallica. Also Rage Against The Machine gets me going.
I have found some techno-fied versions of songs. are pretty motivational. (Trance music not so much)..I like your suggestions, what are some good "Rage" songs?
That's going to depend a lot on your music preference. I've been listening to Evil Empire. It's got some pretty standard Rage songs that I liked a a few I never heard before (didn't like them as much). Songs tend to grown on me though and I like most of it now. I would take a stroll through the itunes store and listen to some samples of them before you buy.
I don't usually buy CD's anymore. I buy from itunes and put them on my ipod.
Rage's "Testify" is good high-energy, also "Killing in the name of"...that one has a part where it chants "f**k you I won't do what you tell me!!!" over and over, you'll like that ;)
I LOVE Rob Zombie/White Zombie for work-out music...the whole Astro-creep 2000 album works, but for individual songs I'd go with Electric Head Part 1, Electric Head Part 2, Super-charger heaven, Never gonna stop (actually chants go!go!go! in the middle of it!), demon speeding, living dead girl, foxy foxy, and p***y liquor (its not very fast but is funny AND good to work out to lol)...I think the Zombie songs work well because they are heavy and driving, but also have that steady techno beat that's very rhythmic. My bf calls it "techno heavy metal".
Other songs in my "fast gym songs" playlist:
Boiled Frogs - Alexisonfire
Date Rape - Sublime
Blue Orchid - White Stripes
Original Fire - Audioslave
Get Inside - Stone Sour
Talk to me, dance with me - Hot hot heat
SOS - Rihanna
Mr. Self Destruct - Nine Inch Nails
New World Order - Ministry
Just a few fun ones!
Just about anything Metallica is good for a workout! I really like Chaka Khan- 'I'm every woman ' when I'm jogging! and to change things up I love latin music, or anything with good drums!
If you're into indie music or other things I have a few songs that keep me going. They are all really different styles. I start my ipod off with "Reckoner" by radiohead for my warm up, The remake of "it's not over Yet" by the Klaxons, Then "Atlas" by Battles this is really different but the beats keep me going on the eliptical (it's almost cartoon like but great beats) The Knife "Marble House" (rex the dog remix off the EP), "Like a Pen" by the Knife this song is amazing if you give it time the sounds so unusual and upbeat, "I like the Way" by Bodyrockers, "An honest mistake" by Bravery, "Your a Woman I'm a machine" by Death From Above 1979 this is more rock fast guitar they also have a song called "Sexy Results" that reminds me why I want to look good, The Electric Soft Parade "if that's the Case,Then I don't know" this song is catchy, "Into your Dream" by Foreign Born, great song, "Over and Over" by Hot Chip, "Four kicks" by Kings of Leon (i love this), "Combat Baby"by Metric, "We Carry On" By Portishead, "Great DJ" by the ting tings, "Wolf Like Me" by TV on the Radio, "One week of danger" by The Virgins, Yeti by Caribou (this may be a little to different but I like the way it works my rhythms) Hope that helps. Also this song "Mimic the hurricano off of Liars Ep" A good cooldown is "Running Up that hill remake by the chromatics" let me know if you like any of this!
Also I love music! But "Banquet" by Bloc Party and check out some LCD Soundsystem the Moving Units there cd hexes for exes is great! Goldfrapp "Ooh La La"

My workout music is mostly 80's early 90's pop... Although, now that someone mentioned Rob Zombie, I may have to make a new mix... I've been thinking about it anyways, been using the same mix for almost 4 months, it's getting a bit old LOL!!!

Women's health magazine has an article this month that talks about music/working out and the scientific findings. Bottom line - music helps! Duh. Here are links to their playlists for different types of workouts, but the article doesn't appear to be on the website. iTunes has lots of playlists too.

I like everything Flartist suggested as well as electronica; I love working out to electronic music - Amon Tobin, Trentmoeller, Booka Shade, Wax Taylor, and Mogwai are a few recent favorites.
I also find Arcade Fire, the Pixies, and Built to Spill inspiring.
i've got a wide range of different musics, whitesnake, poison, Meat Loaf, Miley Cyrus, MXPX, Gwen Stefani, Shakira, The Bangles.
(i <3 the 80's)
I have a massive music collection but I listen to the songs I'm currently addicted to to keep things interesting since I get bored pretty easily during exercise. There are a few songs I ALWAYS keep in my workout playlist which get me to run the extra mile, though ;)
"Barracuda" - Heart (soooo ideal for running!)
"Crystal Ball" - Keane
"Around The World"/"Da Funk" - Daft Punk
"Bones" - Editors
"Bleed It Out" - Linkin Park
"Am I Wrong" - Love Spit Love (something about the melody is so inspirational)
"Firestarter" - The Prodigy
"In A State" - UNKLE
"It's A Hit" - We Are Scientists
Nothing pushes me like some good guitars and techno beats ;)
All of this talk makes me think I need to go make a new play list! :)
Some good stuff to work out to:
Justice, Simian Mobile Disco, Boys Noize, Kavinsky, SebastiAn, DJ Mehdi, Uffie, Kissy Sell Out, and Does It Offend You, Yeah?
Basically anything with good beatzzz :)
"Killer/Papa Was a Rollin' Stone", "Outside" (going through a huge George Michael phase right now), Rilo Kiley - "Breakin' Up", Spoon - "You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb". And Frankie Smith - "Double Dutch Bus" is so fun to work out to.
And of course, you know...there's always the Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera and Rhianna. I have my guilty pleasures.
