Workout Music

Quote  |  Reply
I know there's many threads on workout music (I've been looking through them), but does anybody have any suggestions for either an rock/dance/pop/electronica/techno/really upbeat with understandable lyric song or songs to run to? I need music to keep me going (no walking stuff), but I also need to change my playlist a lot to keep going.

Some examples of my favorites: Basshunter, Linkin Park, Daft Punk, Capsule

Thank you!

I don't normally listen to hip hop, but I listen to mostly hip hop when working out. I'll post some examples of what I listen to shortly.

I have been listening to Small Town Sleeper while working out and have been getting some really great workouts in! The album Conversations is on Itunes if you want to check them out!

You HAVE HAVE HAVE to download some Girl Talk. He's a mash up artist for lack of a better term, but holy hell is his stuff awesome. Google around; he puts his stuff out for free downloads all the time. If you ever get to see him live, RUN, don't walk to get tickets. It's the funnest show you'll ever go to!

My stupid company VPN is giving me grief, but his latest (and free) album to download is Feed the Animals. I never wanted to stop running!

Thank you for the ideas! Any more suggestions are greatly appreciated, though!

Here are some of my favorite songs to work out to, but I'm also looking for some suggestions, so hopefully this thread catches on!Smile

Daft Punk- One More Time

Death Cab for Cutie- Soul Meets Body / I Will Possess Your Heart

Fall Out Boy- Dance, Dance / Thanks for the Memories / The Carpel Tunnel of Love

Gorillaz- Feel Good Inc. / Dare

Green Day- She / Coming Clean

Modest Mouse- Dashboard / Florida

Muse- Supermassive Black Hole / Map of the Problematique

Panic at the Disco- anything off of A Fever You Can't Sweat Out

Paramore- That's What You Get / Crushcrushcrush

Phantom Planet- Do the Panic

Veruca Salt- Volcano Girl

The White Stripes- Seven Nation Army / Conquest

Weezer- Pork and Beans / Buddy Holly

Christina Aguilera- Ain't No Other Man (this is kind of the oddball of the bunch, but it's surprisingly fun to work out to, as much as I hate to admit it Tongue out)

Madonna's new album, Hard Candy is great to work out to. It's all upbeat and she has a more R&B sound this time around.

I listen to Hinder, Nickelback, or Buckcherry when I run.  It's got enough of a rock edge to keep me going but is still understandable.

I agree. The music changes up fast enough, so you never get bored. And the samples are always good. If you'd like most of his music is found for free. Also, I highly recommend E-603, who is a mash-up artist as well. I think his transitions are better, and his mixes indie rock with regular hip hop! It's insane. Great music for running. Oh, his album is up for free on his site. Just google him!

Someone here suggested this song quite some time ago, but it's been on my playlist ever since. It's Combichrist's 'This **** Will **** You Up'. The title seems daunting, but that beat keeps me running when I feel I've got nothing left in the tank.

I also recommend:

Nelly Furtado - Maneater

Lil Jon & the Eastside Boyz - Get Low

Kanye West - Flashing Lights

Phoenix,

I think that there is quite a variety of music that you can listen to. I listen to a lot of music, and have filter through a lot of the "crap" that has come out, leaving me with plenty of good music. As far as for my own running sessions, I would have to agree that your listening of genres is right on point. I think hip-hop is a poor choice for running, because I tend to start to run to the beat accidently, which throws off my rhythm. I prefer what I guess I'll call electronic (all encompassing):

Bob Marley - Sun Is Shining (Techno Remix)

Bob Sinclair - World Hold On

David Guetta - Money

Daft Punk - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

Eric Prydz - Call On Me

(YouTube the video, then replay it in your head when you're running, its more than enough motivation for any guy)

Ferry Corsten - Fire

Also anything harder works for me, like Disturbed, Slipknot, & Rammstein to name a few. If you want more, I can come up with more, just wanted to keep the thread shorter. Enjoy!

Awesome; thank you guys so much!

By the way, that Daft Punk song is awesome, especially hardstyle remixes.

yess daft punk is awesome for running music.

i have a girl talk album on my ipod and i literally feel like i don't even have to put forth any effort while running to those beats.

outkast's aquemini cd also has some good beats to run to.

the soundtrack to dave chapelle's block party is as well pretty kick ass running music.

I liked Nitro511's running soundtrack, as I have most of those in my list.  I run about 5 miles a day so I have to listen to a lot of music to keep me going.

Delirium - Angelicus (Andy Moor Remix):  This is the song that really gets me going on like 8.5 on a treadmill, well at least after the first minute and a half of the usual slow intro in all dance/techno songs.  Then it hits about the 1:40 minute and I just start running like hell.  It is awesome motivator!

Other Dance/Techno songs:

Enur ft. Natasha - Calabria 2007 (Club Mix)

Andrew Bennett - Heaven Sent (Pillow One Remix)

Above & Beyond - Home (Michael Badall Remix)

Paul Van Dyk - White Lies (Dave Spoon Remix)

Three on Fire - Inside (Club Mix)

If techno isn't your style, I also have a couple of movie sountrack lists that get my mind occupied on their effort and will to succeed and I think of doing the same.  I have a couple of songs from the movie Rocky and Bloodsport.

Stan Bush - Fight to Survive

John Cafferty - Hearts on Fire

Vince DiCola - Triumph (I think that is what it is called...basically it is the song when Ivan Drago and Rocky are training for their fight in Rocky 4.  I tend to increase the incline in this one because I just picture myself running up a snowy Russian mountain like Rocky.)

Bloodsport - Final Battle (it is sort of slow when li has thrown powder into duke's eyes, but I always run harder when I think of duke performing those round house kicks on li while the music is playing.  Short little song, so it is an effective HIIT sprint lap.

But to each his own.  Whatever makes you forget about the soreness in your calfs, the pain in your knees while running, the caluses in your feet,  the better.

Good luck man!!

Hello,

Now I'm not a fan of her music, but somehow it managed to get on my mp3 player, and it's Cascada,  I listen to it when I'm working out and it really gives me a boost!

I like these (they're on my playlist, currently) - Metro Station - Shake It, Katy Perry - I kissed a girl, Rihanna - Don't Stop the Music and Disturbia, Chris Brown - Forever, Ne-Yo - Closer, Janet Jackson - Feedback, Dirty Vegas - Days Go By, Craig David - Hot Stuff (Let's Dance), TV on the Radio - Wolf Like Me (this song is great to run to on the treadmill, too), Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye.

I have a really diverse taste in music so I like pretty much anything that has a good sound and beat.  I walk about 4 miles an hour on the treadmill to most of these songs.

This is all pretty much ghetto stuff, but it helps me a ton when jogging. The beats are fast and keep me motivated and invigorated. Sometimes when I get that runner's high I'll actually start dancing when jogging, lol.

Soulja Boi - Donk

Wipe me Down- Lil Bossie

A Millie- Lil Wayne

Turn It UP-Chamillionaire

Dumb It Down- Lupe Fiasco

Southern Hospitality- Ludacris

Kryptonite- Purple Ribbon All-Stars

Check Out My Lean- Lil Shine

Here are some of my favorites on my gym playlist!

Bauhaus - Stigmata Martyr

The Cure - Hot Hot Hot!!!

Depeche Mode - John the Revelator

The Dillinger Escape Plan - Rebel Yell

Eagles of Death Metal - Speaking in Tongues

Goon Moon - Feel Like This

The Icarus Line - Feed Your Cat to a Cobra

Joy Division - Warsaw

LCD Soundsystem - Too Much Love

New Order - Ceremony

Nine inch nails - Burn (ok, almost any NIN!)

Peaches - Hit it Hard

Queens of the Stone Age - Little Sister

Saul Williams - List of Demands

Tool - The Pot

I'm not really a dance music or techno person normally, but it is great for working out, as long as it is decent music.  I love listening to Moby, Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, and RJD2 while working out.  Rock music also does the trick.

I really love good year pimps to work out to.  i think they go by the pimps now though, because good year sued them.  they have a few songs that i really hate, but the beat pumps me up.

My signature songs include but are not limited to:

Hatebreed - Supremacy of Self, This Is Now, Tear It Down, Beholder of Justice etc

Prodigy - Breathe, Firestarter

Metallica - Sad But True

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb (for cooldown)
