Workout question, (ok maybe dumb, but here goes)
Does anyone have any ideas of what type of workout (cardio, mainly) that I could do during my lunch hour? I want something that will be intense enough to burn calories, but not too boring. I have a gym a few blocks from my office that I can go to but never really seem motivated. I only have an hour and this includes travel, changing/cleanup time.
Another question, that my sound dumb: One reason that I don't work out during my lunch hour is getting sweaty. It just seems that I would need to shower, make up etc. and I would not have enough time. Anyone have any pointers on this?
Thanks! And sorry if my questions sound dumb! ![]()
yup... that's what I could never figure out about the lunch time workout...
That and when do you eat???
The best thing I have figured out is taking a short walk.
Well I can eat at my desk while working and use my hour for other things. I just don't want to be all sweaty and worry that I will have time to clean up and get back to to work.
i just go for a walk during my break. I don't have access to a gym but there is a park near by and I can easily squeeze in a 2-3 mile hike.
I don't think there is anything that you could do that would work you hard, but not get you sweaty

Yea, I know. I just wonder if anyone has any tips/tricks for cleaning up and getting work presentable in a short time after a workout.
HIIT!
HIIT is High Intensity Interval Training. From start to end, it can be done in 20 mins and it is a HUGE calorie/fat burner. You don't need a gym. 20 mins. may seem like a very short space of time but believe me; if you do the workout correctly you will be exhausted by the end of it. The goal of HIIT is to hold an anaerobic state for a long cumulative time. It’s designed with rest intervals to allow you to sprint harder for longer. Take this as an example, if you were to sprint for 100 meters, you would go full out for about 15 seconds (depending how fast you were). In an advanced HIIT workout you would probably spend about 7 to 8 minutes going full out in a 15 minute workout. If you are a beginner you should start with 4 to 6 minutes total workout time.
Or, try sprinting as FAST as you can for 30 secs then walking for 60 seconds then back to sprinting FAST for 30 then walking for 60. Do this 12-15 times. As you advance. You can make it 30/30. You can then take a quick shower, be back at work, and probably would have burned a ton of calories!!!
For really advanced, doing jumprope HIIT. Speed jumprope for 30 then lightly jumprope for 30. 15 sets.
You can do HIIT in water [swimming], bike, [indoor/outdoor], steps, etc. Can be done anywhere.

Thanks! Sounds like a good idea. I think there are some good jogging trails nearby that I can check into. Just need to find a place to clean up at.
I do a "PTA" in the bathroom sink. But it is a private bathroom not a stall.
(Pits, tits and @$$). Its not perfect but it works. I don't bother with makeup. I figure fit is better looking than makeup any way.
If I had to do a stall cleanup in a public room I think I would invest in baby wipes.

Ok, great ideas. Thanks.
If the gym that's close to use has shower you could also consider using theirs.
i do a 30 minute elliptical workout at the gym. it is a rush, i only have an hour as well. but what i do is take a very quick shower at the gym after, minus my hair. i've found that cuts the time quite a bit. my hair doesn't look too bad and my body is clean and refreshed. i do bring along powder and eye makeup though.
Depending on how sweaty I get I sometimes use baby wipes to give myself a quick 'sponge bath'. I can usually touch up make up in just a minute or two and same with my hair if I wear it in an up-do. If I need to take a shower I can usually do that pretty quickly as well - I don't wash my make up off, and I just touch up afterwards and I don't fully dry my hair and have found a way to style it up when it's damp that it still looks professional and drys nicely. All told start to finish shower can be less than 15 minutes.
I love working out at lunch! It feels like I accomplish more on these days! You could also talk to your boss about taking 90 minutes for lunch and coming in 30 minutes early or leaving 30 minutes late on your work out days.
Thanks so much for the great ideas. I do think that working out during lunch will give me motivation and energy!
Nahh not a dumb question.
Does your gym have a locker room with showers in it?
If not, you could always just go into the bathroom and wash your face/ underarms, with a small towl you brought and the sink water and some soap Lol. Seriously though.
I enjoy running, so you could try that on the treadmills if your gym has some. Also, biking is a good way to stay in shape. OH! I don't know your living conditions, but if possible, you could ride your bike to work, and then for your lunch break, ride your bike to a sandwhich shop or whatever and get food, then ride back, and ride home. Haha you'd get your lunch and workout in :D Lol
i go on my lunch breaks.
i allow myself 15 minutes to get there and dressed, go to class or do the elliptical for 30 minutes, then allow 15 minutes to get cleaned up and get back.
my gym is about a 5 minute car ride. i wear a sweat band on my head to soak up what it can and use wet paper towels on my hair, face, pits, and other sweaty areas. i make sure to bring extra socks/underwear and have specific workout clothes (bra, shorts, shirt, etc). i also bring wet naps and deodorant.
i haven't had any complaints - my co-worker sometimes takes a quick rinse off shower and doesn't get her hair wet.

Thanks, for all the input everyone! I am going to try it out tomorrow. I think it will rejuvenate me and I will feel accomplished. I will let you know how it goes.
Doesn't Lever 2000 have wipes?
I have a cartoon that shows this girl in her cubbie at work talking on the phone sayihng "Yea I go workout before work each morning so everyone leaves me alone all day" so smelling might not be a bad thing hehehe
I think I'd just walk. I work in a medical complex and just walking the halls and stairs would give a good workout. Also there is a walking track at the hospital right out the back door.
