workout rut

I'm having a very hard time getting motivated to eat healthy and exercise. I used to weigh 20lbs more than I do now and lost the weight over a period of 4 years. I would like to lose an additional 5lbs, but am having major issues with it.

I can't buy health magazines to get motivated again because they are always the same articles with different pictures. (We all know salmon is good for you; eat a handful of nuts; fiber, fiber, fiber!!; exercise 3-4 times with weights alternating in between cardio days)

I also am an emotional binge eater so when I am doing well and eating right, there can be times when I feel like I'm sabotaging myself and overeat!

I want to lose the weight and keep it off for good. I'm in a new relationship and have found that sometimes if I get too comfortable, I'll gain weight. I don't want to do that since I've worked hard to lose the weight.

Counting calories is not a good option for me and I can't restrict myself too much since I'm already veg. I'm starting to work out again as well.

Any advice?

I think youv'e already made the first step with this post! I just begun my weight loss adventure about 2 months ago. One thing that got me motivated to start losing weight is my doctor. I got a piece of paper after a visit for a sprained ankle that said diagnosis: obese. Recomend weight watchers BMI 41. Then I told my grandma that I wanted to lose weight. She told me that 3 out of 4 of  my aunts and uncles have diabetes! I had no idea. At the same time we are having a "biggest loser" contest at my work (well actually they always have kind of a revolving contest, but I never joined). So I joined. It has really helped me to be accountable to someone. I am on a team so we help motivate each other. There are still days that it takes everything I have to workout. But I do it. I know it will be worth it. I only have myself to blame for my situation, and I know I am the only one that can fix it.

I don't know what is going to do it for you. But keep looking until you figure it out!

I know the feeling all too well.

I lost 70lbs, then gained 14lbs from going on holiday & change of circumstaces, joined this site in April & lost & maintained my weight untill I spent 2 weeks in the USA on another holiday in October & gained 10lbs (went to lots of theme parks with fast food being the main thing available & ate pancakes for breakfast most days & being from the UK am not used to the huge portions) & now want to shift what I put on & get back to maintaining. I know I need to sort the lbs out before Christmas comes & adds to the problem.

What I've been trying to do is get back to eating the foods I really enjoyed that were healthy. Try cooking new healthy meals too. Maybe try a new exercise as well as the other parts of your work out.

& most of all remember the sense of achievement you felt when you get that little bit closer to your goal.
