Workout, Starvation, and Deficit

Quote  |  Reply

Hey I'm 5ft 1in, my weight is normal (108 lbs) and my BMR is 1350. My body is kinda big, so i want to reduce it to the most small number for a healthy weight (98 lbs) so i need to lost just 10 lbs.

In previous month i've been on starvation diet which get me down from 113 to 106. But now I'm consuming around 1400-1700 with healthy food, started to straighten my metabolism and gained 2 pounds. Everyday i do cardio workout for 40 minutes, and at the display, it burns 700 calories. so im making 400-700 calorie deficit a day.

Is it healthy for me?? Should i decrease/increase my workout? Do you think what im doing is right? I do weight training once a month, but i dont know if it will build up my muscle to get rid of fat....

Help me please... I really need it, because i look bad on my full body photograph...

Being a similar height and weight, I'd like to first say, I really doubt any part of you is "big".  Having previously starved yourself, I'm a little cautious to answer your post.  I worry that you may have a body image disorder.  I am glad that you are eating healthy, and 1400-1700 calories sounds about right.

Now just because literature says someone of your height can weigh 98lbs and still be healthy does not by any means suggest that should be your goal.  Genetically you may not be able to get down that low, and that should be fine with you.  If you are unhappy with your image, I would suggest toning as opposed to doing more cardio.  Once a month isn't doing much of anything for you.  You need a variety of workouts to keep your muscles guessing and to keep you away from a plateau.  Although, remember, it's okay to plateau if you are at a healthy weight.  Adding muscle will not make you bulky.  It will tone you and it will increase your metabolism.  Cardio workouts temporarily increase metabolism whereas resistance training increases your metabolism for a longer period of time.  You may not sweat like you're used to, but rest assure, if you are doing things correctly, your body will respond.

I do hope you learn to appreciate the body you were given and see it as a gift and not something that is horrible to look at.

oops... typo.. i do weight training once a week, not a month :p i have small belly fat, and my boobs and ass are big... and looks bitchy. thats why i want to lose weight, maybe it will reduce the size. is toning up my body can do it? should i raise my weight training? thanks for replyin jill :)

totally similar to you!

I'm 20 (just yesterday!) 5'1 and getting back down to 106-108. Right now, I'm probably around 110. I recommend not getting down to 98 lbs. It's unnatural unless it's natural. The women or girls that eat normally and work out a bit maybe naturally be 98 pounds, but it's rarer than anything.

So, why not aim for more strength training or intervals on the treadmill? Work on that for 2 to 3 weeks and see if you lose a pound or two.

For two weeks or a little more I ate about 1,200 calories and burned 400-500 calories on the treadmill (45 minutes) and on average I walk around town for over an hour to even 2 and a half.

Now, I eat probably 1,300-1,400 a day and perhaps my weightloss is slower, but it is okay because I have about 3-4 vanity pounds to lose.

I'm not sure you are actually burning 700 calories in 40 minutes, we are quite small so it takes more like an hour and a half to get up to 700 calories. Don't always trust a machine.

If you just want to lose the last bit of weight like me, I recommend taking a bit slower. It helps mentally, and besides even if you (like me) feel larger sometimes remember that we are always too self critical. Your jeans are the true measurments to go by. If they are too tight, worry. But if they are a 0,1, or 2 and fit well....trust me you can't possibly me too big.

well.... i think i will change my training to more weight-lifting. i will go to the gym often....

i eat hi-protein, med carbs and low fat. hope it will works...

OMG you are so OVERWEIGHT!!!....Wink get a life!
