Workout videos that actually help/work?

Quote  |  Reply

I'm a 150 lb, 5ft 3in, 22 year old woman. I'd love to lose about 20 more pounds (I've recently lost about 10), and I have a really hard time getting myself to the sports club in my neighborhood. I really hate working out around other people and I have a hard time fitting in a walk everyday after work.

Can anyone clue me in on workout videos that have actually helped you and produced results? I've never used any in the past, but I think it's something I could get into and keep up with.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I was actually able to stick with Kathy Kaehler - she has both a basic workout and a step DVD.

thanks! i'll look into it.

hey! i have almost the exact same stats when i started out. i'm still pretty close to where you are. hope calorie counter is working out for you. :-D

ok, workout video... i love using SHAPE (as in shape magazine) work out videos. they give you different combo options, and interesting cardio workouts that keep it fun. i also love the windsor pilate videos.

hope that helps

it does help. thanks. Laughing

My 40 lb weight loss started with Tae Bo.  While I try different things now, I consider it my "go to" workout.  The "power round" series took away my "I don't have time to exercise" excuse.

I also really like Turbo Jam, and while I haven't tried it yet, the ChaLean Extreme system (by the same instructor) has received some good reviews on CC as well.

I'll be starting it soon, but many people on CC swear by Jillian Micheal's 30 Day Shred.

Other tips:

Netflix is a great resource for trying out workout DVDs without having to purchase, and there web sites like this to research different kinds of videos.  And there's is even a website that has preview clips.

i started doing dvds at home when i was a single parent and couldnt pay for a gym. they work! theres tons of them out there though and a lot of that is junk.

here is an excellent site that gives reviews and video clips. you an shop by instructor, activity, etc... do youur research!

http://www.collagevideo.com/

i am a cathe addict and i have an entire library of her workouts. i also like kelly coffey meyer, amy bento, tracy staehle, and jari love. they are mostly advanced, but i will throw in an intermediate  on a day im feeling lazy.

i shop ebay for my dvds. i have a long list i want, but get them when i can get a good deal on them. cathes dvds are expensive but worth every penny.

find an instructor you like! thats important. and get a variety. you cant do one workout every day. you will get bored bored bored.

good luck Smile

Brilliant! thank you. that website is great.

I definitely have netflix...and totally didn't ever think about trying workout videos thru them. good thinking.

Most libraries also have a collection of workout videos and books, so you can always try them out there for free before buying - I've done that a LOT!Wink  That's how I found New Rules of Lifting for Women - and ended up buying a copy.

i just bought this and this for about $12 each.

im excited and just had to share!

they have been on my want list  for a long time. Smile

Not a DVD, but I love my Wii.  "My Fitness Coach" is fun because it gives me a decent aerobic type workout.  I can pick a focus for the session, music type, workout space, etc, and it is always changing it up.  It makes things more difficult (or easier) based on your feedback and seems to always be throwing a new exercise into the mix.

You need the Wii for it, but not the balance board.  It asks you if you have equipment like a step, balance ball, weights or HRM and incorporates them into the workout if you do. It also does a "test" at set intervals to determine if you are improving.

I've also heard that the EA Active (?) for the Wii is a lot of fun.

the ministry of sound dvd's with deanne berry in them are fantastic, i have all of them, pump it up and the clubland dvd are the best.

the music is great to make you want to jump around and the workouts are hard but easy to do, and theres a dance section in the middle if your feeling wild, i normally skip that bit tho and do the hard section twice.

ive been doing them for almost a year now every other day and ive lost almost 2 stone and ive just got to get rid of my final bit of belly now.

I would like to second the suggestion of Cathe Friederich's workouts (pretty much any of them!) as well as using www.collagevideo.com.  You can preview the workouts and read reviews.

I also like Patrick Godeau and Jari Love (especially Ripped 1000)

I really like Jillian's Michaels' Banish Fat Boost Metabolism DVD.. no weights just using your own body weight.. 45 minutes of cardio that will kick your butt.

No water breaks, no rest so it really gets the heart rate up.

It also has the disclaimer of "Lose up to 5 pounds a week" I'm sure if you do it everyday.. I throw it in with my other work outs!!

I have to second the Banish Fat Boost Metabolism workout DVD recommendation.  It is an intense workout, at least for me.  You can find it on youtube.  As a matter of fact, you can find many other workout DVDs on youtube that you can do at home for free... usually they are broken up into several segments, but I have found that if you create a playlist, then select "play all" it goes through them pretty seamlessly.  For me, it helps change things up every so often so that I don't get bored or too used to one single routine.

Power 90 def. works. I started at 190 and am at 165 now. Your guranteed to lose weight, inches in 90 days. The results are great too, I am 5'9" but at 165 I look toned. I saw results in the first 2 weeks, but I was also sore.

It is hard work, but every single work out dvd is hard work. Any one will work as long as you seriously commit to it, but overall power 90 gave me the best results.

Love Jillian Michaels' latest: Boost Metabolism and No More Trouble Zones

Both REALLY hard but REALLY helpful!
