Workout - Weight gain connection?

Quote  |  Reply

I am in NO WAY bashing working out.  I love love love working out and have been doing cardio or weights 4-6 times a week for the past few years :)  I lost 20 lbs when I first started and have been trying to maintain... lately hasn't been working out for me.  :(  I have always kept up the workouts but have slacked on the calories.  But I have always tried to eat healthy and snack to keep my metabolism up just like I did when dieting.

My issue comes in when I moved last month- for a week straight I did not excersise, barely got any sleep, and every meal was fast food, chinese, or pizza...  and I don't own a scale, but I felt thinner and LOOKED thinner in the mirror.  (I can do an almost dead on guess of how much I weigh by how flat or pudgy my stomach is.)  Now the past few weeks I am back to my same pattern and I am back to my same 'looks like I've gained 5-10 pounds' thing.

Is this because I ate 3 large meals vs several smaller meals?  Because I didn't workout so I didn't have as strong of an appetite?  Was more active all day with moving/painting?  Ahhhh I don't know I'm just frustrated and even more frustrated I need to get back on the lose weight thing.  I am buying a scale TONIGHT and starting to log calories tomorrow!!!

Out of curiousity... did you move yourself?  Packing, lifting, toting, unpacking, cleaning?

If so, you probably worked out just as much as you were doing before, if not more, just in a different way.  Just something to think about.

And what does your regular workout look like?  If it's mostly cardio, then the lifting heavy weights (boxes, and furniture) may have been a nice change up for your body.

No idea without you calculating whether you were eating more or less calories, so I have no idea on that.

The SAME thing happened to me last October when I moved into my house!!!  I dropped 6lbs in two weeks...I have NEVER been able to do that!  I also lived off of fast food, doughnuts, pizza, just pure JUNK for about 2 weeks!  That was the first time in like 3 years that I had taken that much time off from working out.  I was able to maintain that weightloss up until the holidays...then I started upping my exercise to fight off the holiday weight and then I hurt my foot again gained 10lbs.  I workout EVERY DAY and I can't even shed a single pound now!  Maybe I need to buy another house and move again!! HAHAHA  So...what is the deal with that?  Sorry I couldn't answer your question...I just found it to be interesting that it happened to you too! :-)
