I came across this pictorial from Time's web site. It shows 16 families from around the world and what they would eat in a week. It's interesting!

(I can't believe some people drink that much Coke!)

that was quite interesting
wow that was pretty cool.  I never thought so many different places would be so "americanized", as it were.
I was surprised too... based on the food & soda, I thought the Italian family was American!
its amazing how much more fresh food they buy in other coutries compared to the US.
Holy shabang, I can't imagine spending 500 buck on weekly food, with a lot of that going toward "liquids" (Germany) or 12 2 liters of coke like in Mexico, though I used to drink massive amounts of pop myself!
What a great post!  That was fun to look at.  My favorite spreads were the Chinese, Italian and German tables.
I think this is very interesting, but regarding leiann's comment, I am curious where they got their german family from. I live there, and discount supermarkets abound, and are well patronised from the poorer to the rich. Unless you shop at the most expensive supermarket available, I don't know how you could spend that much money a week on food in germany. This incredible price in Germany, makes me wonder how accurate the rest is. Germany has the reputation of having some of the cheapest prices for groceries in Europe, and in my experience is so much cheaper than the UK where I also spend a significant amount of time.
This was fascinating, but yikes!  Not enough veggies!

I found it really interesting that some of them would say favorite food and list a meat product but when I looked, I was unable to locate meat. Or like the American family listed clam chowder as a favorite, but I didn't see clams, or cans of soup. Weird.

I was surprised by the fries in KFC holders in China. And I found it quite entertaining that in several pics I saw boxes of Corn Flakes.

It also totally made me want to donate to that buy a cow charity where you can buy an animal for a family, so they can have the milk or eggs or whatever. Especially the one family that ate for $1.83/week with four people.

Yeah, that seems to be a bit much. My husband is German, I am studying in the UK at the moment so I am not always home, but there is no way, even when we go out to eat, that we spend €187 between the two of us, certainly not in a normal week. I would say most weeks it would be more like €70-100 unless we go somewhere fancy and that could be get up to €150, but that it would very rare that we would get up to that. I would like to know where they shop. :)

I remember seeing this one before, its very interesting. I would love to look a bit closer at different families within the same country because obviously you can't represent an entire nation through just the one.

I thought that was VERY cool. Especially since I like to cook internationally making japanese and german dishes quite often. Did you notice the "larger" families either had all fast food or a TON of soda in the backround? You feel really sorry for some of the extreme poverty in some of the pictures though...

This book has been on my "wishlist" at Amazon for a while. The same photographer did a similar book about people and their material posessions - it is amazing. #14 looks interesting to me.

I feel SOOOOO guilty about how much I spend on groceries per week now!!!! I could feed a family of 5 - but I only feed myself!!! YIKES!

...And what's funny is one of the poorest families seemed the happiest of all of them.

Isn't life ironic?

It was awesome to take a peek into different parts of the world, though. A lot of homes seemed like places I could drive to. So much American influence.

Lol, and so much Coke.
