Should I be worried?

Quote  |  Reply

Ok, So right now I'm 15 yeahr old, 177 cm and 73 kilograms. I am kind worried about my eating habbits and everything of recently.

For about 3 months, I was on a 1000 calorie diet, mostly protien, very little to no carbs and other gear. I dropped 30 kg in about 7 months (I had a higher calorie intake before this, but I wasn't satisfied with my losses) now just recently I upped it too 1300 (or ther about) because I was scared of falling to anorexia ( I hadden't been that conserned, but everyone else was, and it made me worry). On my second week, I have just let myself go and not even worried about counting calories. I enjoyed all the foods I had missed out on while dieting (pizza, Bread, MOre fruit than usual). Now, I plan to stop this and drop back to my 1100 calories, cause that worked niceley for me, I never felt hungry at all, but it seems recently since I said 'I'll just eat' I get increasingly hungry all the time and I can never get enough food. To make it worse, I haven't gained a single pound! So I'm scared that when I do stop, my eating will catch up with me and push my goal even further away, into next year even!

Can you fine bunch of guys and dolls welp me out with any info or Support? I really need hugs right about now >(

well you were losing weight when you were eating 1000 cal right? maybe what you're eating now is what you're body needs to stay at its current weight? Maybe the feelig like you're never full is your bodies way of "stocking-up" while it can, just incase you starve it again. 30kg in 7months is a lot to loose.....but thats not your fault. I know i drop weight fast too, somedays losing 3kgs a day! (mind you i put it on as fast! ;) Listen to your body, if its hungry, feed it!  Just regulate it, you know how much of something you should eat. A diet is not starvation!! Lower the amounts little by little if you want to cut down. It may take a while, but soon your body will adjust to eating a certain amount a day and be satisfied with that.

On another note, you're only 15 hun. It could just be your natural youthful metabolism thats keeping you from gaining!! You shouldnt be worrying so much about it, think of how much fun it was to eat what you wanted!! your young and from what stats you've given slim too! Enjoy yourself, and leave weight worrying alone until you hit your 20s k?

*hugs*

Well, It wouldn't bother me, but I was at my last 9 kg and I was like wah >(

I spose I'll mantain for a month or so, then try losing again.

Thanks oh so much for your help!

One of the reasons you may feel hungry is the types of carbs and such that you choose. If you are eating a high amount of refined "white" carbs and sugar you will often feel hungry.

Simple carbs can cause a spike in blood glucose, followed by a quick drop in blood glucose levels (the carb crash) if a large amount of insulin is released.  This is usually followed by further hunger and cravings for carbohydrates that send a "time to eat again" signal.

If you eat complex carbs (whole grain bread and pasta, actual fruit rather than juice, etc) you should not feel so hungry all the time.

But sweetie, please don't worry so much!

At your age don't obsess over counting, and as mentioned, feed your body when hungry -- just make it healthy choices. You would be surprised how easy it can be.

Try not to have bad food near you all the time so if you need to munch, reach for some homemade trail mix (bulk food store can be your best friend), carrots, apples, yogurt, etc.

When you have bread make it whole grain, if you want pizza go ahead! You can always make it a whole grain veggie pita pizza if you want to be healthy.

But you know what?? IT'S OK TO EAT WHATEVER YOU WANT SOMETIMES!!! You really can!

It's all about ratio -- think of it this way. Eat really healthy (not a diet, just healthy choices) 80% of the time and 20% of the time you can let yourself goof off and eat the stuff that is yummy but not so good for you!

Because let's face it gotta live sometimes...and if you let that stuff be part of your diet you are less likely to fall off the wagon completely and binge on the bad stuff.

If you know, for instance, that Thursday is pizza night with your friends you are less likely to crave it and snap and have a whole week of badness (and residual guilt) than if you say "I can't eat pizza anymore." If you deny it you will want it! Just have it in moderation.

I never ever say I can't have anything ever again, even now while I am counting and being more strict with myself it is just to get started and I think "I can't have a coke today," or "I can't go for drinks tonight," when I see some weight loss and improvement I can have these again...in moderation. So I can't have a beer every night, but I can have a few when I meet up with friends. Or I can't have a coke every lunch hour, but I can have one at the company BBQ.

You have to live your life and have the things you love.

You deserve it!

Since you're 15, eating 1100 calories a day is too little. You should aim for at least 1500, or you will inevitably fall into starvation mode (when your metabolism slows down). I've had this happen to me and I've had to increase my calories at an excruciatingly slow pace to avoid gaining weight (though I maintain now at around 2000 - I don't know the exact number b/c I don't count).

What I would suggest, if you found yourself munching on pizza again, is eat healthy during the week (whole grains, fruits, veggies, lean protein, healthy oils, lowfat dairy), and if you manage to do six days in a row, treat yourself to pizza on the seventh. (It's what I do, except with pastries :) ). That way, you won't be deprived of it; in other words, don't allow pizza to be a "forbidden food", just consider it a treat. Also, don't forget to stay active! You're young and should be able to do plenty of physical activities.

Good luck! :)
