Worried about the holidays...
I know it's early to talk about Thanksgiving and Christmas, but we have a lot of family/friend get-togethers during the next two months. I know about portion size, self-control, drinking a lot of water before, etc., etc...but I'm still worried. My question is, could I fast for that day, and then just eat all my calories at the party? Any hints would be wonderful!
You could, but then you'd probably eat twice as many calories as if you'd eaten normally during the day and splurged just a little at the event.
You've already said it all.... portions size, self-control, water.
I'll add: 1. Don't deny yourself that piece of pie. Take a smaller piece and enjoy it. Eat it slowly. 2. Don't worry about it. If you mess up, forgive yourself and get back with it the next day.
What i do is snack throughout the day so when its time for dinner im not as hungry. In my family there are vegtable trays as well as trays with sliced meats and cheeses.. Ask if you can bring a dish then bring something you can eat. There are ways around this be creative and good luck
Every year my mother and I make about 50 dozen homemade cookies to give away as Christmas gifts. Talk about temptation!! So instead of skipping the tradition all together, I allow myself to have three or four of my favorite kinds (we make about 8 different ones, pecan balls are the hands down favorite) and then I chew LOTS of sugar free gum to keep my mouth busy.
My MIL and I make homemade tamales for the family to enjoy on Christmas Eve. Another temptation. Again, I allow myself to have one (or sometimes two) and move on.
After all, what would Christmas be without home made cookies and tamales? Miserable!! The Halloween candy is killing me though!
Totally not early TALK! Thanksgiving is on my mind 24/7 (year round)... cause I LOVE IT SO MUCH! ha ha ha!
As for your question fasting: DEFINITELY NOT a good idea! If you do that the second you sit down to your meal... you are going to most likely inhale EVERYTHING and just tell yourself, "well since I didn't eat all day I can eat all of this now"... Granted this is only ONE day but still... you should eat a balanced breakfast and a snack before you sit down to my favorite dinner of all time! ha ha.

As you just suggested, I plan on bringing food I can eat to our Thanksgiving family get together. My family knows and understands what I'm doing and is very supportive. I'll snack on celery, carrots and jicama, then just have a couple slices of turkey with a tablespoon or two of gravy. Since a small portion would just make me want more, I won't eat any potatoes, dressing, etc. I brought my own food to a family gathering a few weeks ago, and it worked very well. I enjoyed being with my family and left feeling good about myself. Of course the comments about the weight I've lost made me feel terrific, too!
Where can I see 1/8th or 1/6th of a pie or angel food cake?
This is the best way to picture a portion of pie or cake: Draw a circle to represent the circumference of the cake or pie (9" pie? 10" cake?... Read more
