worried about weight gain
What do you guys eat in a day b/c i am very concerned about this weight gain. With my first i lost weight and in the end gained only 10 lbs.
Help,
thanks
You should know this, but if you dont:
Healthy pregnancy usually involves 25-35 pound weight gain. Looking at your photos, you're clearly starting out at a "normal" weight (that is, you're not overweight or obese), so it would be inappropriate for you to either lose weight or gain a mere ten pounds during your pregancy. Gaining 6 pounds in the first trimester is not unheard of. I gained 10 pounds in my first trimester, and approximately 10 pounds in each of the others, for a total of 35 pounds. Within two weeks after delivery, I was down 27 pounds, and now, with a 5 month old son, I still need to lose about 6 pounds, but I'm sure 3 of those are boobs alone! Don't worry about weight gain at this point. You are totally within a normal range, and your baby needs you to eat well. Stuff I ate:
breakfast: smoothie or oatmeal
lunch: sandwiches, soups, salads
dinner: salad, protein, veggies
snacks: fruit, cheese, cottage cheese, brownies and cookies (indulgences)
Focus on protein, and plenty of fruits and veggies, and you will be fine.

For me the first trimester was an "anything goes" situation. It was the only thing that kept the sickness at bay. I'm 16 weeks along today so I'm 2 weeks into the 2nd trimester. My appetite has really gone down. I find myself eating just three meals per day and maybe some fruit in between. I have quite a bit of food aversions so I eat what I can at that time. Veggies were really hard for me the first three months. If you were at a healthy weight pre-pregnancy, 25-35 pounds of gain is normal. Don't try to diet. If you work out a lot, you'll need more food. I lean toward maintenance plus 300 calories, so anywhere between 1700-2000. In the third trimester, I may add some more. The feeling of fullness increases as your baby grows because of lack of room inside so eating smaller meals throughout the day helps.
Also, I may eat things at times that don't seem quite fitting. This morning I had a hot turkey and cheese sandwich. Think of the protein, at least that's what I keep saying. For lunch I'm gonna hop over to Subway and get either a tuna sub or a veggie sub... dinner I'm having a Bertolli meal. Each day varies. Since I've hit trimester 2 I've been much more health conscious!
Try to relax and weigh in weekly. Keep in mind you'll be retaining extra water so drink more if you can. Also, sorry if this is TMI, but constipation is a major pregnancy issue and it could add on extra weight if you're not regular. Your body is going to gain what it needs to regardless, just try to nourish yourself and baby the best you can. The first six weeks post partum, a lot of this goes away.... You'll probably be left with maybe 10-20 pounds afterward to get rid of and breastfeeding can help with that!
OH machatica, I'm glad you hit on the boobs, I forgot about that! I bet I'm at least 1-2 pounds heavier in this area!
i get a little obsessive at times even when in my brain i know that weight gain is totally normal when you are pregnant.
i won't worry anymore....or at least i will try not too.
(fyi i was brought up by an anorexic mother so gaining weight is hard for me)
One more note... you are absolutely beautiful... I love your photos!
