What was the worst diet you've ever been on?

For me, it would have been "The Cabbage Soup Diet". I did that one for about a week or two when I was in highschool. I remember feeling like I was starving and dizzy all the time even though I ate bowls and bowls of the stuff. When I almost passed out, my mom wouldn't let me do it anymore.

I agree... I tried that diet. I loved the soup but I just couldn't seem to get past the banana day...
I thinK I stayed stuck in day 4 for like 3 weeks!
I didn't get the dizzy and starving feeling you did though
The ATKINS!!!!! I was on it for 2 weeks and lost 12 lbs...WOOHOO right....NOT....almost lost my husband too..lol...I was a you know what on that diet without carbs. I had no energy to do anything. Also those 12lbs came back almost as fast as when they came off....I read recently in a couple of articles and books that the atkinds makes you loose weight fast but that the people that choose that route have a harder time maintaining it after it comes off.
for me it was adkins.. i hated that diet.. i felt deprived all the time, i dreamed of carbs, i know this is gross but i was constipated all the time from too much protien.. ick.. i don't get how anyone can stay on that diet!
I was on Atkins for 6 months. I Lost like 30 pounds without starving but I was totally miserable. I am sorry but any diet that wont let you eat fruit is just silly. I was also totally irritable and crazy. I told my doctor about it and he said that you need a certian amount of carbs for proper brain functioning ( like 150 grams or something) in order for your brian to produce enough seratonin. I was eating like 40 gramsa of carbs a day. So Atkins literally makes you depressed and moody. Once I started eating differently I totally felt better. Also I was so constipated when I first started. I didn't have a movement for the first week and a half of that diet!! Gross. I have no idea why I stuck with it for so long.
The Seafood Diet! .....okay, maybe not....maybe it was just the "See Food Diet" I have never stuck with a diet long enough to find it damaging to my system. Once I would start to ache I would just go back to my old ways. Thats why I won't use the word diet again...I am changing my life, oh yea...forever. I am loving the calorie counting...it is so easy for me and I don't feel deprived!

For me it was the MAYO CLINIC diet~

I was on that diet but after a while the grapefruit juice with every meal was getting on my nerves..

thank God for Calorie-Count!!!

I tried the cabbage soup diet when it was making it's rounds one time and had similar reactions. It took several weeks to get my digestive system back to normal. Really smart --huh? I do still make the soup recipe occasionally in a smaller batch *as part of a healthy menu* not using the crazy *diet* (which is close to starvation!)

I also in the past have used the Atkins induction plan which has a bad effect on my system .If I stay on a lvery low carb plan for long I start noticing hair loss and lethargy. His maintenence plan is fairly healthy and balanced if one includes all the vegetables and low carb fruits. I stayed on the Suzanne Somers plan for quite some time and lost weight and maintained some of the loss , but found the supplying my kitchen with all the food types it required and the extra kitchen duty to make special recipes too trying to keep up, expensive and at times wasteful as I was the only household member eating some of the items.

I could go on and on about the crazy diets I have tried , but by watching portions, trying to concentrate on healthy whole foods, and using this *wonderful* site to keep track is the one that is working for me. I also do not feel deprived , am fairly energetic (I include carbs), and am losing--not at the rate "promised" by the fad diets--but losing!
THE WORST DIET I have ever been on was some drink thing that was popular from the eighties...some powder and you mix it with water...chocolate or vanilla or strawberry or something like that! Anyways like before becoming part of this site...A QUIK FIX!!! Also I used dexitrim tablets.....yep...I am sure they are so good for you:(
NOW.... I am SO done with that stuff! I also did the cabbage soupthing....like it but I would add chicken to it and some garlic.....It made it much better to eat day afater day after day..........how boring was that!!
I tried the Zone for about a week. All the measuring and 'if you eat that, you must eat this' nonsense was just so much WORK. And I really didn't enjoy my food, because I had to think about it too much.
That would be the three day banana and skim milk diet. 1 glass of skim milk and 1 banana 3 times a day for 3 days. I lost 6 pounds but gained it all back within a month.

It took me a loooong time to like bananas again.
The worst for me was the Beverly Hills Diet. It was like food combining and "cleansing with fruit". But what was so awful about it was that some days, all you could eat was strawberries. As much strawberries as you wanted, but nothing else. Then the next day would be watermelon - I ate like a whole fricking watermelon that day and was hungry all the time. Then the next day would be all grapes... It went on like that for 2 weeks before you got to eat an actual meal, which was I think 4 ounces of steak, a small boiled potato and a green salad. And it was the BEST meal I'd ever had because I'd been eating nothing but fruit for so long. It made me dread to be awake, I'd be like, "OK, so today is pineapple day. Great." I lost 15 pounds in a month and then gained 25 the next month.

I sure used to do some crazy things to try to lose weight...
I HATED both the cabbage soup diet and the Atkins Diet. But I think the Atkins is worse because I gained the weight back almost over night - at least that was how it felt. The calorie counting and this website is the only thing that has continued to work for me, since I'm really not on a "diet".
I did LA Weightloss and hated it. It worked for my mom. I think she lost about 35 pounds, but it sure didn't work for me. I was hungry all the time and felt like crap. My hair was falling out and I was really dizzy all the time. I hate seeing their commercials on TV "free to live" is the motto and I think, yea right.
I've never tried a fad diet - will someone let me know when they come up with the "chocolate" diet - I might give that one a try - haha

My sister has has great success on Weight Watcher - she lost 25 pounds and looked great - kept it off for quite a while too. I was so proud that she accomplished her goal:0)
my5sky I think one can make thier own chocolate diet--just eat a serving portion (dark chocolate is supposed to be heart healthy) some days and count it in the meter within your limits.
I'm gonna get reamed for saying this:

The worst thing I ever did was try a 40 day fast. NEVER EVER EVER DO IT.

It's amazing how many people have tried the cabbage soup diet ... has to be my worst as well!! I always gain more weight than I lose 1 month after that program ...
I tried the "Lynne diet" when I was about 17.  Basically what you do is you just stop eating altogether. I wanted to see how long I could go without food. I skated through days 1 and 2. By day 3 I was hungry and weak. The morning of day 4, I woke up and was so weak and shaky that I wolfed down a huge bowl of cereal with sugar, lol! I don't recommend this diet at all.

Regards,

Lynne
Well, besides anorexia (which I flirted with in high school) I suppose Atkins is the worst;  as I don't eat meat, that 2-week Induction phase was a doozy!  I don't think I'll ever feel the same about eggs and cheese:):)...toooooo much of a good thing.  Ultimate irony?  I started Atkins last year the month before we went to Italy.  Like, the Carb Capital of the Universe!  And those gelaterie on every corner, offering about 200 flavors of the most delicious rich ice cream on earth.  I'll post a picture of one in my profile, although I think just looking at all that gelato is fattening!  Atkins, schmatkins, I say...
My worst diet is the one I'm on today, somebody help, it's called the "All You Can Eat Diet".  LOL.  I can not stop today.  Other than that it had to be the Atkins.  I never even lost weight, but I was trying it after I had lost most of my weight with Weight Watchers and wanted a change in foods.  Who wouldn't want a diet filled with cheese.  My body apparently.
