What do you think are the worst "empty calorie" foods? As in, no nutritional value, no real purpose other than to be bad for you? xD

Personally? I think one of the worst offenders is fried bread. Seriously, GROSS.

Soda in all its forms. Donuts and similar pastries. Fried cheese. French fries & onion rings. Pixie stix. etc...

i think the worst kind of empty calorie foods are the foods that you just take handfulls and handfulls of at a time and can't stop.

Haagen Dazs ice cream. But it tastes sooo good :(

I would have to say soda.  I can imagine some nutritional benefits for most junk foods (like calcium in ice cream, carbohydrates in bread), but for soda I'm just drawing a blank.  I know there's a negligible amount of nutrition, but as far as I see it, the more processed it is, the less nutrition there is in it. :)

Freaking poptarts and margaritas

Any "diet" food that simply has one goal: to have next to no calories.

Not to say that I don't eat this stuff; my 5-cal-per-tablespoon Promise margarine is forever a staple in my fridge...


...but still.

I'm not sure if it counts as food, but alcohol!

id say poptarts are deffinately one.
even toaster strudels too, seriously 200 cals for just one.
gatorade/powerade. worse than pop
even though they are delicious cinnamon rolls.
same thing with bagels, donuts, or muffins.

Oreos

Seeds, nuts, candy... I could eat them all day and never get full.

1) Alcohol in large amounts

2) Soda

3) White sugar

4) Any form of hard candy

5) shortening and lard

 seeds and nuts are def. not empty calories. empty calories are food with little to no nutritional value as in vitamins and minerals.

ex: anything made completely or mostly of refined sugars and starches.

pretzels, chips, candy, soda

nuts and seeds are rich in vitamins as well as good fats such as omega 3s.

 

I was going to say, cptbunny: empty calories doesn't mean not filling (though that can be the case with some of it) but rather something with no nutritional value. Seeds and nuts are nutritional powerhouses so they would not fall in that category!

Yeah nuts are very good for you.  :D  Loaded with all of those good fats that no one ever gets enough of. 

Candy, on the other hand, is a good example of an empty calorie.


Also, fruit juices.  Not the fresh kind, or the good kind, but the kind from concentrate and the kind with HFCS. 

EEK!  I refuse to drink my calories like that unless it has some sort of purpose; I drink a lot of protein shakes because I need the protein and those are a fast way of getting it.

But yeah.  Nuts are high cal, but they're also high nutrient.

Soda, store-bought cookies, and 'kiddy' cereals that don't even have any fiber in them.

Fluff. Like peanut butter and fluff. The peanut butter is not empty, but the fluff most certainly is.

Any high-cal, sugary drink. It's just not worth it to me.

Hard candy. Heck, any candy.

Refined sugar.

White bread. (the really processed kind that you can roll into a ball. Eeeew, why would you want to eat that?)

Marshmallows

 

starch and sugar definitely all ur necessary carbs can some from veggies and real food.... i personally think any non-real food, ie anything processed, is an empty calorie

Oh I guess I misunderstood, I'm sorry seeds and nuts! =D I still <3 you!

So empty calories = junk food?
