Your Worst Injuries. Ever.
Many of us, particularly athletes, have that one grisly injury story. Some have more. There was one time period (August 07 - Feb 08) where the injuries did not stop pouring in. Let's share some stories.
- Pulled my left quad in August 07. Sprinting in soccer tryouts.
- Severe concussion in September 07. Collision in a soccer game. Unconcious for 15 minutes at least and totally whiped my memory of that 30 minutes.
- Strained and internally bruised my deltoid, rhomboid, trapezius, and rotator cuff 4 days after my concussion. Refused to sit out of the game (I should've because of my recent concussion), got into a collision, flipped over the girl and landed on my shoulder. I didn't keep off it for 2 months and it didn't heal for about 3-4 months and it still hurts sometimes.
- Severe contusion on my knee in Novermber 07. Yet another collision in soccer.
- Severe arch pain in December 07. Running too much.
- Pulled my right quad in January 08. Sprinting in my lax game.
And the curse ended in February =)
How about everyone else?
Geez. Some of these stories do make me cringe. I'm lucky enough to have never broken a bone, although I have messed up every muscle possible =P. Now that I think about it I think I might have broken my wrist when I was in 3rd grade at my first travel soccer tryout, but my mom didn't believe me and never took me to the hospital. How kind of her.
My worst injury was when I got stiches...
And the stupid thing was that I just tripped over something and that's how it all happened (well I was 6 that time. I fell hard though, if that's even possible =P). I remember crying a lot and stuff when I actually had to get the stiches done.
they compliment the 4 hooks
and 15 screws.
I also have had tendinitis 3 times in my shoulders and bursitis in another.
superb.
mykanos: That is super yucky! How long did it stay black? When I had my knee surgery, the lower part of my leg started out black, then faded to blue, purple, icky weird color, green and then yellow. It was nasty!! But the fun part was shortly after I had the sugery I went to the beach wearing my brace and made up some elaborate story about how I got bitten by a shark.
I just recently partially tore my plantar fascia (sp) while kicking a soccer ball around. Was on crutches for two days, then got tired of hobbling around so had my podiatrist give me some cortisone and now I am almost back to normal.
And one not related to sports, and probably my worst injury ever, when I got hit by a car five years ago. The left side of my face was scraped off, my left eye was swollen shut, my jaw locked for a few days, I had a decent concussion, my right knee was permanently damaged like my left knee had been during that soccer game but it hasn't really been an issue since I lost weight. Nothing was broken. I was in an immobilizer for precautionary reasons which ended up hurting me worse and leading me to a whole lot of physical therapy. It took about a year, year and a half for me to walk normally again without crutches or canes.
Aside from all the owwies, getting hit by a car was pretty fun. I laughed throughout the entire ordeal which made the paramedics think I'd taken one too hard to the head or was "special".
Dislocated my right knee joint during cheerleading. I dont really know how I did that, though I think it happened when I slipped and fell from the top a human pyramid around 3m high. Hurt like urggggh!

laur3nmae: Sure, go ahead and post some links to pics!! I always like to see stuff like that. I have an iron stomach.
Ok :) hopefully this works: http://s124.photobucket.com/albums/p32/Laur3n mae/My%20knee/
Thank you! nah it didn't actually hurt when i did it surprisingly, the anasthesia/stitches were more painful!
Two come to mind:
11 years old: Playing basketball, I drove hard to the basket, made a layup, and crashed into the goalpost. Broke three ribs on my right side and was out cold for ten minutes. Severe concussion.
17 years old: Helping my friend work on his car, the latch holding up his hood broke and slammed down, breaking all four fingers on my left hand. I jerked so bad that some stray sheet metal caught my back and gashed it open deep enough to need 8 stitches. That was just a really bad incident, hahaha...
I have never broken a bone, pulled a muscle, ect.
But my friend broke her hip last year. She was in a wheelchair for 6 months, and people kept asking her- "What happened??" And she was like "I broke my hip- I fell down the stairs"
Shes a bit clumsy;]
I have tendinitis from my toes to my hips thanks to 15 years of ballet. However, my worst has to be when I fell down my best friend's stairs (no alcohol involved whatsoever). This was right before Christmas a few years ago and I pulled every muscle on the right side of my torso. I couldn't sleep for a week because I couldn't lower myself down on to my pillows. It hurt to BREATHE.
Otherwise I've been lucky (crosses fingers, knocks on wood).
I fractured my heel when I was in Panama City for Spring Break 06 with MTV. I jumped off a 4 story parking deck into a 4 foot deep swimming pool and landed on my heel. Not a smart choice... I had to red-shirt due to injury and missed my university's lacrosse season as a result.
I was on rollerblades and fell on by as*. I actually fractured my backbone and had to start learning how to walk again. I did this exactly two weeks before I had to leave to Greece for a trip. Totally sucked, when I walked I looked like I had a stick up my as*, lol. Very painful and still have minor pains today.
Oh, fractured all hands/legs, one after the other.
Left leg, right leg, right hand and left hand.
Clumsy person, wth?
Oh, and fell on a corner of a table when I was 3 and split the whole skin above my eye open. Ouch. I have a pretty scar right now.
I haven't been badly injured ever! No sports stuff, though.
-I saw a frog near my feet and I jumped sideways, and my ankle bent under me. It hurt for weeks because I ran & jumped on it and only put an ace on it.
-The floor was wet, and I was running around. My feet slid under me & I hit my head, but I was fine later.
Then a month after, while hicking i told my cousin " you knowin the movies the ninjas they do a cart wheel on a stick", she says "ya ive seen in in a few movies"... she turns around and walks off, what did i decide to do with the pice of wood i had in my had... YES... the ninja.. but didnt quite work as in the movies, the wood broke and went in my nose, i landed on the tar mark, blood flowing everywhere... I got into so much trouble, my dad was furious, asking why he got such a stupid kid eheheh
But thats not all, a couple of weeks later, wanted to do a position on the bycicle, place my foot on the bar in the middle and extend the other foot behind.. ahah the other foot went in the wheel, whilei was in the air i put my hands on my nose to protect it... the first thing my mom asked was "hows the nose"
Then once day decided to play basketball on the tar mark at noon in indonesia barefeet (well i was in a skirt with heels...) after 5 minutes i realised that it seemed i stepped on a dry leaf... nope the skin under my left foot was burned... in a way that i could lift it... so i did a rambo bandage with toilet paper and scotch tape and hopped to class... my teacher refused to let me in and they took me to the hospital.. my feet were taped up... and could only walk on the heels for a week ehehe
Broke my finger during hiking.
Torn my ligaments .. dont know how many times, when i went to play basketball i would displace my knee nad still keep on playing hopping on one leg, really hurts, and go home hopping on one leg. wasnt able to bend or walk properly for a week...We got done a knee gear in singapor.. then everyone called me robocop... but that didnt stop me...
Growing up my mom had regular calls from school, and we(me and my 2 sisters) were regulars at the hospital...
Hahaha... some of these stories make me laugh...especially that person who sled into the house LOL. I've been lucky and never broken or anything or yet alone went to the hospital.
Hmm I've had 1 minor injury though. I was in the 3rd grade and I was biking home from school. There were a lot of people on their bikes on the sidewalk, and as I was approaching it, I thought I could go onto the sidewalk by going up the the curb. (you know how there's always a flat surface where you can ride up...well that was taken up by other bikers)
Well turns out I couldn't go up the curb, so I ended up flying off my bike and landing face first on the pavement! Ouch! Luckily, I was okay and was wearing my helmet, but I busted my upper lip and it swelled up like a baloon! Literally, my lip was massive! Nothing major happened though except a lot of bleeding. Somebody called my parents for me and an ambulance but I refused to go in it and get stitches. :P My lip is fine to this day, but if you look closely you can see one part of it not proportional to the other part. :P
