Worst Job you ever quit?
I JUST quit my job, and I feel SSSOOOOOO good right now.
You see, I was working at Ipsos-Direct (part of Ipsos/Angus Reid) which is a call center where we conduct telephone surveys. OMG is it ever the worst job ever. I get yelled at and hung up on so many times in an hour.
These people who answer the phone don't realize that I don't REALLY want to be calling them during dinner or on Sundays. I wouldn't be calling anyone for a survey if I didn't want to go to college after high school.
That's another thing nobody realizes. The call center I work at is dominated by college/university and high-school students like myself. There's at most five seniors and a hand-full of middleaged people worknig there, the others are all young. People yell at me over the phone and tell me to get a life but the truth is I probably have more of a life than them anyways.
It sucks having that job. But the pay was decent, at least. I just couldn't take it anymore. Saying the same exact introduction over and over 60 to 100 times an hour. And my shortest shift was six and a half hours. So I had to say it A LOT.
Next time you get a call from someone doing a survey or from a telemarketer, be polite! If you don't want anymore calls from them, ask them to take you off their list. They will, trust me. They will. But please, the yelling and swearing...understand you're yelling and swearing at young adults *big chance you're yelling and swearing at someone under 20* who just wants to save money for a good education.
I'm so glad I quit. I feel so more relaxed.
Anyone else out there with stories of the worst job they ever quit (or are currently working away at)?

ug full service car wash
I washed towels and dried cars all summer...while the other workers who would then take the car and wipe the windows down would get tips....after I just dried an entire car myself...no tip for me....no tip outs...how stupid is that.
I was stuck in the back because i had fushia hair....that was years ago and im still a little bitter :D

I hear ya. Had one of those jobs myself, minus the good pay part ... I worked for a temp agency and that's where they stuck me. It lasted a week. But it wasn't my worst job ever. That one would have to be when I was the legal assistant to the most boorish, incompetent, disorganized, abusive lawyer on the planet. I stuck it out for about six months just because the pay was great, and boy did leaving feel good. Go celebrate!
Working as an operator, during the weekend, at a mortuary. Lasted 1 weekend.
lol its good to hear others complaining about bad jobs too. i forgot to mention, i stayed as a survey conductor for five months at $9/hour (which I would say is good for a 17 yr old, but it so wasnt worth it)
I am a car salesman. So every customer I greet hates me from the second we shake hands. I can definitely relate to you, but thats why these jobs pay well cause nobody wants to do it. Just remember that by you keeping your composure and remaining decent it makes you better then customers who lose their composure. I have learned to enjoy my job but also can't wait for the day that I get to quit
MCDONALD's

A gas station.. I won't name which one. But the dominant chain on the east coast of Canada (you porbably know which that is)
I was a cashier. Well, thing was, I was sapposed to make new coffee every 2 hours. But there was 8 different kinds, so even if I juggled it well, and it wasnt ever running out, it was still a pot every 15 minutes. That and I had to clean all the washrooms every half hour while magically never leaving the front of the store. Oh? did I mention putting away and taking inventory and cleaning non-stop. You know that rule about a 5 minute break every hour? Yeah. didnt apply here. I didnt even get a break for supper if I did the 10 hour evening shift.
It wasnt a quiet gas station either, usually 4-5 people in line. I also had to shift registers, work the safe and count lotto tickets and cigerettes and take phone calls. It was also a bus station so I had to handle tickets and parcels. All the while with a huge fake smile on my face. (we got in trouble if we didnt cheerfully greet every costomer who entered the door) And that wasnt all of it... but Ill stop there. It was an almost impossible job... but somehow I managed to juggle everything ok-ish by a year into it.
Then one morning my manager came in and said (as I am juggling 3 costomers, 2 pots of coffee and in the midst of putting out lotta tickets) that she was disappointed that it always took me til 8 to finish the mopping and my shift started at 5:30. She said from now on she expected it done by 6:30 when she got there. As soon as the customers walked away I said "Consider this my 2-week notice." ha! I damn well knew I was the hardest worker there and she knew she couldnt afford to lose me and spent the next week trying to convince me to stay. and the week after glaring at me in silence.

oh I didnt mention that gas had reached 1.65$/L (its 1.05 now) and I'd often get yelled at by angry customers... cause it was obviously my fault
I used to think working at Burger King was bad... But that was before I worked at Golden Corral...
At GC:
At GC:
- I rarely got a 30 minute break (State laws mandate a 30 minute break if the employee works at least 6 hours... I usually worked from 4p until 11p through the week and 4p until 12p on weekends)
- The GM was a douche bag (Many employees cried after he'd "talk" with them because he was such an asshole)
- Had to put up with employees screaming at me for rolls every 20 minutes (I was a baker... I had to make 3-4 racks of rolls every night...1 Rack = 18 Pans... 1 Pan = 24 Rolls) So in between making rolls, stocking up the dessert bar, and prepping pies and cakes for the next day... I also had to cook 5 pans of rolls every 20 minutes for a couple hours
- They'd work you 6 days a week and find some way to make it so you didn't get overtime...
- You were never thanked for a job well done, only bitched at for any slight mistake...
- Customers always wanted the one item that you hadn't replaced yet on the bar... Even though we had 18 different desserts, 5 different types of candy, 4 different toppings for ice cream, and 2 ice cream flavors... They'd always want the one thing that was empty...
- And I'll be damned if not a single one of the customers knew how to read... I can't even begin to fathom how many times I was asked "Hain't you got nothin without no sugar in it?" to which I would have to reply "Yes, we have the 4 items that say "NO SUGAR ADDED" on the spoon..."
Had a few bad ones:
Working at a bar on minimum wage, the manager was a complete and utter N*B, thought he should keep the staff busybusybusy every second of their shift "Have you cleaned that table?" "Yes, 5 minutes ago" (it's spotless and nobody has sat there since) "Do it again" . He'd also interupt while you were serving to tell you to go and empty ashtrays, he had the worst attitude EVER!!
I lasted 3 days then had to tell him what an a**e he was and left.
Then I worked freelance for an American company in London and had absolutely NOTHING to do all day but the money was fabulous so I kept myself occupied as best i could (lots of coffee rounds and solitaire!)
After a couple of months they cut the workforce by 75% making hundreds of people redundant , but not me - talk about the guilt!! I was still sitting there doing nothing, bored out of my mind, i had to hand in my notice that week!!
(btw I'm always nice to tele-people)

Tech support for dish network. I didn't make it past the four week training. Best paying job in a college town, but bad hours and stupid people.
I scraped crapstick in a plant for Burt's Bees. That job lasted about two weeks. One day, I answered my phone, made up some bs about an aunt being in the hospital, and left. I never went back. That place was full of nepotism. Everyone was either married to one another, dating one another, or brother/sister and mother/father. The head guys were always yelling and telling us what a bad job we did. We weren't allowed to talk at all on shift. I went home smelling like peppermint every day. Not a little bit, it smelled like I fell in a vat of peppermint. I got paid minimum wage. My hands were always blistered and sore. It was a horrible job. That's the only job I've ever quit without giving notice.
Call center. It was stupid job and the company's policy is just stupid. I wouldn't want to be a customer of them at least. They have a super complicated billing system and you guess what, ppl call in and yell at me for 10 minutes non-stop and when I ask for their account # to look into their account they ask for the manager...yeh....I have empathy for the customers actually.
Howeve they just don't get it that it's NOT my fault that they're billed twice or the tech guy didn't show up.
One lady yelled at me for 40 minutes because her bill was wrong 8 months ago....and it was fixed....she was just mad at me because of a technical issue(which I couldnt' solve rite away). When I told her I'd have to transfer the call to tech she freaked out and yelled at me for another 10 minutes...she asked me how long I had been with the company and I told her it was my second day, which was true. She then yelled at me for another 10 minutes....refused to talk to my supervisor/manager/ any other ppl with more experience and finally hung up on me. I couldn't stop crying rite after she hung up. It was my second day!
I stayed there for another month then I quit before benefits come in. Worst job ever!

Atlanta Bread Company!!!
OMG, all you poor souls!
FYI, I'm usually nice to tele-people, but I had this one company that kept calling me to do this immunization survey, and I even started to answer the questions the first time but they got too personal about my kids so I stopped. I told them to take me off the list, and they just kept calling! After 5 or 6 times I told them to stop harassing me & I think that "harassment" is a magic word.

I feel so guilty right now. I am sitting here laughing so hard tears are actually rolling down my face. I am not laughing at you all but at the jobs I used to have and how bad they were. Now though, they are just funny memories. Thank God things change the older you get. I remember wrangling turkeys LOL those have to be the dumbest animals put on earth, make a noise and they run to you and smother each other trying to get to the noise. If it rains they will go out in the rain and look up to see it I guess, then they drown and you have to bury them. Then again I would take a stupid turkey over some of the bosses I have had over the years. Like the one who used to urinate in a paper cup at his desk because he was too lazy to walk to the bathroom YUCK! yep I quit him like a bad habit!
When I was 15 yr old I got a job at Taco Hell (they call it that for a reason :) to earn money for a plane ticket to visit my best friend.
(the minimum age to work is 15 and 9 mos w/ a work permit, keep in mind).
i copied and changed my birth certificate to reflect that I was old enough, although I was shy by a few months.
Anyway, the general manager was a PIG. He hit on all the girls who worked there. He was constantly offering to give us all rides home "for a favor". Uh....NO thanks.
Noone was brave enough to complain though.
After working there for long enough to get the ticket, I confronted him, told him what a pig he was and quit.
Then, while I was visiting my friend, I called the corporate office and anonymously complained about him, telling how he hires underaged girls so he can harrass them.
When I returned home I found out he had been fired :)
But...the meximelts were SOOOOOO yummy....(way before I started watching my diet, mind you :)

Let's see...
-worked at VS and promptly quit (and called security) when some perv asked me to try on a teddy for him because I was his "wife's size" YEAH OK BUDDY!
-quit working at Ram Restaurant and Brewery when they kept all the bartenders/cocktailers OVERNIGHT (9 pm-5 am) to scrub, polish, remove gum (with eating utensils might I add!), etc and didn't get paid to do so. ALso, a line cook grabbed the back of my head and kissed me. I made a sexual harassment complaint and they didn't fire him until I muttered the words "law suit."
