the worst part of dieting...
i mean, its pretty much a given but i just feel like talking..i really really hate social situations where there is just a ton of food there. and it all looks so good and of course none of it is healthy its all greasy pizza and amazing desserts/ candy. basically everything that tastes good. to me thats the worst part.
I think the worst part is when you are really trying, but you don't want to tell anyone you are dieting, because they have all heard it before and figure you will fail sooner or later, and people keep offering you food. You politely say no thank you to the cookies or whatever, and they keep on and on, saying are you sure, don't you want just one. NO!! This happened to me at work today and I ended up telling the person I had a toothache so they would leave me alone. It's hard enough saying no the first time, but to keep on. Thanks for letting me vent.
I agree. When I first read the post I thought... social situations!!! My stategy is act like I'm not that hungry and eat small portions of whatever is available. You can't really count calories, but it seems to work for me without seeming like a total uptight lame-o that can't relax and have fun.
I am right in there with you guys!!!!!
I would say no in social settings, even though everything looked great! And then due to everyone pressuring me to eat etc etc. and all the emotions going through me. I would go home and BINGE!! I know..horrible. I've learned to control that now, but ohhhh i hate social settings!
i hate telling people im dieting.. or more so just eating healthy or whatever because im 17 i dont necessarily need to lose weight i jsut want to feel better about myself so i hate telling people like that , i feel like they give me weird looks or just think its stupid or whatever idk..
You need my 'Movie Star Diet'.....
Here's the rationale... Movie stars are constantly in the social whirl either attending premiers, awards ceremonies or just your regular celebrity party scene. And yet they have to stay slim for their job. So live life like a movie star.... Some examples.
1. You wouldn't see the average movie star standing by the buffet table troughing her way through the contents like a starving sailor.... Dainty portions darlings, dainty portions.
2. Movie stars can't buy greasy takeaway muck and walk down the street scarfing it down.... who knows when the paparazzi will strike?! (Someone tell Britney...)
3. Movie stars don't accept the rubbish on the menu.... that's for the hoi polloi. They ask for things to be prepared just how they like them and don't care who they upset in the process. Think DIVA!!!
I used to have all those problems until I decided to stop dieting. It was like a cartoon lightbulb over my head - I'd been dieting for years and getting fatter and fatter.
What I did was make a list of bad eating and exercise habits. Then I set out to change each one, one at a time. I found CC and started logging all my food and tracking my calories. My weight chart is in my profile for all to see. If you look, you'll see I had an extended period of maintenance, keeping within a 5 to 10 pound, up or down range and now I'm losing againg. That maintenance period was because I was sick.
I'll give you an example of what's involved in changing a habit - I used to love huge portions so I started with the one food that I loved but overate - pasta. I learned how to cook a single, 2 ounce dry, serving by weighing the pasta before cooking. A low cal sauce is easy to make. At first this just wasn't enough food, so I'd fill up on salad and extra veggies. I find that now, two years later, I simply can't eat a large portion of pasta. If faced with a huge plate of it, say in a restaurant, I eat about a cup and automatically stop.
This habit will stay with me for life. There are lots more, but you get the idea.
Tiny portions so that you get to slowly savor the taste but don't wreck the calorie budget. If anyone asks, you can say it all looks so yummy but I am still full from ____. I agree, I don't want to be the person at the birthday party that refuses cake! So I get a tiny piece, nibble it slowly, and feel like I've had a real treat! I'm also guilty of drinking a crap ton of water and eating lots of salad or veggies before a social function where there will be snackies.
Social situations can be really difficult because it's mostly unhealthy food that I haven't had in a long time and I just want to eat it all, and there's nothing healthy to eat.
Besides that, my family is also difficult to deal with.
Whenever my parents cook something I ask a bunch of questions such as "What kind of oil is that?" or "How much sugar/salt/flour is in it?" and sometimes they don't want to answer me.
I think they believe I'm not eating enough food but I know I am. Then they go out and by junk food that I love but they know I'm not supposed to eat it. I tell them not to buy it but they still do. *sigh*
Basically, for me, the worst part of dieting is telling other people you're on a diet and they don't support you & they think you have an eating disorder.
