Wouldn't it be cool if...

the energy you produce using exercise machines can be use to power them!?

I was working out at the gym today and had an epiphany..

Why are we wasting so much electricity when we could be PRODUCING them ourselves!? It seems like all this energy is being wasted...

Its like that 'hamster on a wheel' theory only with humans, lol. But yea if someone could figure out how to do that it would be pretty cool. It would solve a lot of our problems.

A lot of the stationary bikes are like that.. they are not plugged in. I think many ellipticals are also... at my gym it is just the treadmills and stair climbers that use electricity.

My bicycle is human powered I use it to exercise and it takes me to work. I would say that is energy saved.

talk to ed begley jr.  he powers all kinds of things with his.

I just feel like gyms use A LOT of electricity.. and I'm sure the energy bill is quite substantial. It would be so much better if all of their equipment could be human-powered... what a great concept! Why haven't anyone done this yet!?

I thought we were moving forward... guess not Yell

Maybe on the day that everyone dies, people will finally regret being so ignorant and uncaring towards the environment.

My elliptical and home bike are human powered only.  The elliptical at the gym is also human powered as well as the recumendant bike.

I've seen an episode of Monk where this guy used a stationery bike to power his blender.  I've also heard of people using bicycle power for tvs.  I don't know how"true" this is but I'd be willing to be able to power my tv for an hour or so by using the ellitpical.

What I'd really like to do is be able to afford solar panels - or wouldn't it be cool if we could do like my grandparents and use windmills to pump the water out of the ground to use- I remember all the farms in Nebraska had windmills attached to the watering tanks for the cows.  So if I could have a small windmill in my backyard to help create electricity that would be cool.  In the winter I only have a wood burning stove to heat the house - doesn't use energy but does pollute the air luckily I live in a rural community with no pollution issues and lots of folkswith wood burning stoves for heat.

I live in a part of AZ with lots of "tree huggers".  Many homes of rammed dirt, straw bale composting toilets gray water systems and other enviromentally friendly extras.  Like I said I'd love to be able to afford to do this too.

Hey check this out, same thought process, very cool:  renewable gyms.
