Wow... I feel silly
Ok lets be honest here... have any of you ever done something totally stupid and felt you just had to share it? I love watching Dr Phil and Montel. At work last night a friend told me that if I must watch tv, to do it standing up. I thought that was kind of a silly thing to do. So I tried it. For the first 15 minutes I just stood there swaying back and forth. Then I got bored with just standing there. So I decided to start marching in place. After 45 minutes my legs feel like bricks! Wow. I never thought doing something so silly could make my legs feel like they weigh 100 lbs each. I doubt I burnt that many calories but mentally I feel like I did something. Has anyone ever done anything like this or have any clever, crazy, zany, off the wall ideas for me to try so I don't get bored with just standing there?

I have heard the same thing, but as I don't watch TV, I have never done it. I think it would be interesting to try though.
I think the stupidest looking thing I've ever done with any similarity is that I have skipped everywhere. I'm not sure if that's good calorie-buring or not, but you are just so much happier when you do it and it seems to get you places faster than walking. =)
Ha ha...skipping, that's cute. Me, sometimes I clench my butt cheeks when I walk. Like when I step forward with my right, I tighten that cheek and then the other side. I had my friend watch me do this to see if it looked weird or not. As my demonstration was taking place, a few people walked up to her and asked what we were doing....what an embarassing conversation that was. But nobody could tell I was doing my secret clenches so ha ha.
actually, good vigorous skipping is part of my interval training.....faster than walking, slower than running! It does wonders for building the quads and stretching all the leg muscles!
Find the inner kid in you....go for skip!
I do this all the time at work. Part of my work is completing clinic visits, which of course means lots of documenting in progress notes. I used to always just bring back the chart to my office and sit at my desk to write up the notes, now I stand in the lab to complete the notes. This probably adds up to additional hour of standing each day.
By the way, check this thread out: http://caloriecount.about.com/forums/post/113 234.html
The article lists standing as one of the things to do to lose the last 10 pounds!
Whats really fun is if you buy an exersize ball and sit on the while you watch tv. I spent about 2 hours once just bouncing up and down like crazy while i watched Gilmore Girls :-) You can also balance. I'm almost to the point where I can stand on it!

Came here to post this!!
I use my exersize ball when I'm sitting on the computer (like right now!)
I dance around while I'm getting dressed and usually end up dancing for awhile in front of the mirror because I'm vain and it makes me giggle.
Here is my true inner geek secret that NO ONE but my husband and one friend knows about me- I play World of Warcraft while I'm on my exercise bike. Now THAT is some silly.
I have challenged myself to walk or fold laundry anytime I am on the phone!

Holy freaking cow!! You just blew my mind. I had no idea that other people did this. His reasoning and experience is exactly the same as mine. When I get into fights with other players my legs start spinning around like crazy and my heart rate goes through the roof. That's hysterical, thank you!
OMG that is just the most awesome thing ever!!! I need to get a bike/monitor setup where I can do that now!!! Thank you for telling me about this, as I spend one day each weekend playing Warcraft all day, and the other out on the road cycling-- now I can do both at once!!

Girl gamers are hot. Even if it is a secret passion they tell no one about!
Ooh I have another one! I do calf raises (sans weights, of course though I'm not sure if you still call them that) while I brush my teeth. You're just standing there, may as well make the most of it.
