WOW! Jumping rope is super efficient!!!!
Tonight I was sitting around pouting. Jimmy asked me why, and I explained that I really would like to get some extra exercise in today-- going out for Mexican tomorrow night-- but that I really didn't want to go walking around the block, as it was dark out and I really wanted to stay in. He said I should jump rope. I agreed, but I had no rope. He offered to go get me one, which was incredibly sweet, as he worked much later than me, so I told him that he should relax and I would go buy one.
Target $2.99 And worth even more.
I jumped rope for 25 minutes, doing 20 jumps, resting for about 10 seconds, 20 more, etc. When I logged it on CC, I was so impressed! It burned 209 calories! 209 calories in 25 minutes without leaving the house! How efficient is that?!! Shoot, I might do it for 10 more minutes before I go to bed tonight. Even THAT would be enough calories burned to bother with it!
Wow that's awesome!! You totally inspired me to go and buy my own jump rope and act like a kid again! I love to walk, but with it getting dark out so early, I don't want to go out alone (especially with everything that's been happening around the MSP/St. Paul area). The roommates might think I'm a bit weird, but whatever - they're just jealous! Going to have to run out and pick this up tonight!
I hope you are as pleased as I am! I rode a bicycle to work, which took about 15 minutes. Went to log it--42 calories. 15 minutes of jumping rope--144!
I must warn, though.. I did it for a combined total of 40 minutes yesterday, and 30 minutes today(15 minutes two different times), and right now my calves are so sore that when I first stand up I almost fall to the ground! Which stinks in a way, but is also proof that it is changing my body. And I think I am STILL going to try to do it again, even if it's just for 5 minutes. I'm addicted to the rope!
Hey that's great though! Thanks for the idea....needed something to work calves better =) there's my fix. Already feel like my quads are ripping off my thighs from doing thrusts tabata style so may as well do something to the rest of the legs.
I find that I actually ENJOY jumping, whereas most exercise I have to force myself to do and I hate every minute of it. I took a break from it for 2 days because of the incredibly sore calves, and I really missed it and wanted to do it, but I didn't think it would be a good idea until my muscles healed a bit. Yesterday they were still a little sore but not too bad, so I jumped for 15 minutes. The calves are not in intense pain today at all. :-)
I do five sets of 100 jumps with my rope as part of my exercise routine, but I have no idea how much calories it burns...

If you're curious, glance at the clock and see how long it takes you, then go to your activity log, search "jumping rope" and put in how many minutes you jumped.
