See what simple changes can do? x3

Well, 9 pounds is amazing. ^^ Good for you. Calorie Count is really easy to use when it comes to calorie counting and logging activities.

Well done :)

I would suggest upping your calories a little so your body doesnt go into starvation mode, if you have lost that much in 4 days then it looks like youve dropped your calorie intake ALOT.

To lose weight healthily you should be looking at a maximum of 2lb per week and not more than 1% of your body weight.

At the beggining of a crash diet usually the huge amount of weight lost wont actually be fat, it will be a majority of water, muscle weight and a bit of fat.

Can i ask how many calories your eating at the moment and your stats?

I am 5'9 216lbs. I am eating between 1500-2000 calories a day. Calorie Count gave me a number of 2581 a day. Thats a little hi dont you think? I'm also working out 30 mins a day. I wouldn't call this a crash diet, it's just a new way of life. My mother told me to count calories and im like yeah right..lol..But anyways those are my stats

I apologize if that sounded defensive or rude Embarassed

It might sound high but you sound like a very active person and you would be supprised how many calories you burn :).

From your first post i thought you may have been undereating but 1500-2000 is a safe and healthy amount.

The problem with eating too little calories is that if your body decides to go into starvation mode it will be incredibly hard to lose weight. It's hard to tell at first what the right balance is because everyone is different but i'd suggest playing it safe and go by CC reccomendation. If your losing 1-2lb a week on that limit then your set :) otherwise you can take it back down

Good for you! You always need to make sure your are eating enough and I would agree that 2000 is good. The most important thing in dieting is changing your life style... for good not just until you lose some weight. I am a 300 lb 33 yr old man and I personally eat 1800-2400 calories a day. That works for me. I eat a lot of protein in an attempt to keep the muscle that I have. I have had weeks that I lost 7 lbs and others that I lost 2 all while weight training heavily as well. Remember there may be a week that you only lose 1-2 lbs. Keep up the great work!!

9 lbs in 4 days is defiantly something to be excited about.  I do want to caution you however. When first starting a healthy eating plan you will lose water weight and there are quite a few lbs in there that are water. Also time of day you weighed plays a part too. If you weighed first on a full stomach, bladder etc you would have been heavier due to the food you ate and waste inside your body. Don't get disappointed if you start getting a 1lb loss in a week, it will happen and I'd hate to see you get disappointed when the loss slows down. Enjoy the loss now and stay consistent in your journey.

The first week is always so good. Your body will settle down and start to lose smaller amounts, but on a regular basis.

I just lost 10 pounds in 14 days.  It was just the kickstart I needed to really get on the ball.  I don't expect to lose much this week (thanks monthly cycle!) but I'm hoping for two pounds.

It really is about counting the calories.  And making sure those calories are worth it.  We're having mexican tonight, and I'm nixing the burrito shells (they're 170 cals each!!!) and making mine a salad instead.  Still cooking for the family, and just tweaking it a bit for me so it makes more sense.

Look at your calorie intake vs. your activity output.  If you have a difference of 500 cals per day, you *should* lose one pound per week.  So if you want two pounds per week, you need to have a difference of 1000 cals per day.  It really is math.  Blasted math! lol

Best of luck to you in your endeavor.

and really well done!!

Congrats on your loss - the first big drop is always so exciting!    But please don't be disappointed when your loss slows down a bit.    Most everyone (at least those of us with quite a bit to lose) has that big drop at first - it has to do with when you eat healthier, you are generally also consuming less sodium and therefore less water retention, and also your body's metabolism goes into a bit of a shock at first.

I also took the liberty of running your BMI based on the stats you gave, and I think you are probably doing fine on your cals.    At light activity CC calculates you burn 2300 a day, at mod activity you burn 2700.   So depending on how you would classify yourself, you can take 500-700 calories off those numbers and that's what your average caloric intake should be to lose a nice safe 1-1.5 lbs per week in the future.   (and I say average because I am a firm believer in zig zagging your calories a bit - I'll eat more one day, less the next, maintenance one day, etc - and I lost 50lbs that way with virtually no plateaus).

WHAT DIET ARE YOU USEING?

Congrats on your loss.  I hate to be a party pooper, but that was probably a lot of water weight.  Becareful not to expect that kind of loss, probably ever again as long as you don't gain it all back.  Do the math.  A 9 lb loss is a 31,500 calorie deficit, or 7875 deficit a day (4 days).  Good luck to you though.

To those that are asking what diet is OP using, I hope her answer is she's not dieting, just making some lifestyle changes.  You can not diet for the rest of your life, but you can change your lifestyle forever.

Partychick, which one of the twins are you?

I know all too well that if you drop your calories too low, your body will hold onto every fat globule you have. I have terrible trouble meeting the minimum calories levels -- or even getting close. I don't get physically hungry anymore and have to force myself to eat.

You MUST eat those calories and get the nutrients to lose the weight.

Soft little alarm bells are going ting-a-ling in my head.

9 lbs in 4 days ratio sounds a little high from the 2 lbs in 7 days ratio that I'm comfortable with.  Don't get me wrong, we're all excited for you, but please don't expect this sort of loss to be consistent.  Eating healthy and exercising sensibly is part of losing weight.  2 pounds per week should be your goal speed.

The speed at which you lose the weight will also help determine how you keep it off.  We're all pulling for you, but don't rush a good thing!

mook

That does sound like a very large amount to lose in such a short space of time. But good for you :) I would advise checking your scales just in case they are misbehaving though :)

WHAT DIET ARE YOU USEING?

I'm not dieting. I am eating everything I used to just counting the calories. It's amazing what a little change can do. I am also exercising 30 mins a day plus chasing 3 kids around.

THANK YOU for all the advice and tips!!! This is my first time joining a group like this and I'm happy I did because the support is amazing. My doctor said that the 15 lbs I gained in the last 2 months is probably water weight (well some of it). We just recently moved from a humid climate to a dry environment so that could play a big part in that.  But I'm ready for the journey to a new life of being healthy and happy. I appreciate everyone's supprt. Goodluck in your loss!!!!

Yes, this

that is fantastic! I used to do a 'mental' calorie count and it worked the last time I needed to drop some weight, but this site is priceless.

my husband and I have a bet going to see who loses the most in a month. So I am counting calories and working out for 30mins a day. He initially lost 30lbs in 3 months because he started working in NY and was walking a lot. But he has stalled, so I figure a bit of competition will help move him along. I'm not getting on a scale at least for 2 wks though. I dont want to be disappointed if there isnt any kind of weight lose in this first wk.

I completely understand you... My first week i lost 10 lbs in 7 days however the last couple days ive gained a lb or too just cause ive been slacking on what ive been eating ..................im horrible at late night eating and well last night and the night before i couldnt resist a piece of bread w/ peanut butter and jelly god only knows how many calories was in it...............SO i'm gonna try my hardest to stay out of the kitchen at night..............Maybe i just need to come on here at night and get that extra support well hope all is well :)
