"WOW you've lost weight"......I have?

Quote  |  Reply

So now it's gotten easier for people to tell that I've lost weight.  Granted I'm still in the beginning stages but I don't see it yet.  Anyone else feel like their eyes aren't working or something?  I just don't see it, there's little things like jeans kinda fit big and my rings are falling off but still.....

Anyone else feel like that? Like maybe your mind needs to catch up to the scale?

Yes. I have, all together, lost about 55 pounds in the last 2 years (I stopped for one, but I still count it) and I've gotten hit on, made uncomfortable by the loud "OMG, you have lost so much weight!" and still can't see it. I really think you need to understand that you see yourself everyday and you can't see it like other do. Take all of the compliments and run with them!

Yeah.  I'm currently studying abroad in Australia and I keep a blog so that everyone back home can see what I've been up to and keep in touch.  With my recent post I added some pictures and from some of my friends and my whole family I got comments like, "You're disappearing!" or "You look so skinny!".  And I mean, it's great for the self esteem, but I was like, "Huh?  Seriously?".  I think when you look at yourself in the mirror everyday it's hard to notice the differences.  I know I've still got a long way to go, but I'm taking those compliments and using them as motivation to keep going (cause apparently it's working...even if I can't see it yet).

"Oh, my gosh!  Where did the other half of you go?!"

Ooh, I must look pretty good then!

yess... that. I never seem to notice, and I do think it is because we see ourselves every single day. So for us it is pretty gradual change, for us its almost like it goes unnoticed (until we compare before and after pictures), but for someone who has not seen us in months or years the change is pretty drastic.

yeah this pretty much happens to everyone. You look at yourself everyday, and you're so used to seeing yourself one way that to change your mindset to seeing a new you makes it hard to accept for your brain. Its like...wake up, look at yourself in the mirror, frown and say "bah...same old me"...go to work, notice the looks and in comes the compliments "wow you look so much skinnier!" " how ever did you do it!"....you still dont see it but dont fret! people see the changes? then you will see them too and feel proud that they do cos it means that whatever it is you're doing, you're doing it amazingly well. Eventualy you'll start seeing yourself differently as soon as your self esteem also changes into a more positive one.

its kinda bad how we like to see ourselves and frown uppon us when we have a few pounds on us...and how hard it is to slowly make the weight loss sink in...but in the end you'll feel a lot better and notice that you did reach your goal, and you do look like a whole new you.

I didn't notice until I had to add two holes to my belt.  I don't own a scale.
