I apologize if i sound rude or if i offend anyone, please make me know if i say something wrong, or something that oposes what you think :)
I think a Wrong eating habit is caused by two main sources; education and publicity.
In a way Wrong eating habits can be said to be caused by the ignorance from other people influencing on you. You get thought since you are little that there is a type of "healthy" and "unhealthy" food showing you that cakes are a total no no and salads are a YES, but you get also thought that healthy food tastes horrible and unhealthy tastes great. Unhealthy food such as chocolate bars are used as a prize for behaving right and salads are a punishment for misbehaving. Also you would learn from your parent's habits, as they dont like salads either but they love high caloric food you will be the same. Another example is the use of oil as they even say, without oil it doesnt taste as good; thats why at one point people believed eggs were BAD! but the eggs are incredible food, the bad thing is how you cook them.
Publicity is a major influence; companies obviously always prefer quantity over quality and they dont care about what their products contain while they still sell, cereals for example: Cereals like nesquick are seen as "unhealthy", but they actualy have fat and more protein or fiber than most of products that claim themselve as healthy such as some granola brands. You also see this even inkids programs such as cartoons the despise of the protagonist to healthy food, and how they even put exagerated adventures just to save themselves from eating liver in onions, and they picture magic worlds full of candy.
Thx for ur time =D
Don't forget 'self-indulgence' and 'greed'.... even highly intelligent people who have a very good idea of what constitutes a healthy diet & have not been badly influenced by parents, confused by magazine articles or swayed by advertising can have the good old-fashioned 'Deadly Sin' of gluttony to contend with. It's entirely possible to have a fantastically healthy, well-balanced diet and end up overweight because you eat too much of it.
i totally agree - a girl i work with is always eating lean cuisines and cereal bars....i cringe at all the excess sodium and sugar
i think the 2 most hilarious gimmicks is special k and 100 calorie packs....there is absolutely nothing in them.
marketing is also an amazing thing - like hot celebrities eating at fast food restaurants...
here's a hilarious one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8nJKa13sBo
i think society also gives you the idea that if you can eat crappy and maintain your weight at the same time you deserve a gold star. like your body comes naturally...and food has no power over you. it's such bs.
I totally agree with GI Jane, I personally have always had a "healthy", natural, home-cooked diet but am very overweight. I certainly have the sin of "gluttony", my portions were simply too big for my activity level, and I slowly gained about 5 pounds per year (for the last 25 years of married life).
The good news: now that I am paying attention to portions and moving more, the weight is coming off steadily, and I am actually eating in a way that I find sustainable. Also, my good eating habits (quality speaking, not quantity speaking) kept my health and mobility high, so I don't have the chronic health problems that plague so many overweight people.
But, I do think that the food climate in the US certainly makes it easy to consume too many calories mindlessly -- what with the continuous availability of prepared, tasty, high calorie foods and constant advertising. My local grocery store has a prepared food section that would rival any restaurant, so there is no "safe" zone to purchase raw ingredients. Even the farmer's market has prepared food that is high calorie density.
I have embraced the idea that I will have to pay attention for the rest of my life to maintain my weight as well as my health.

kaila, that was a very interesting video, lol,i was drooling at the end.not quite sure if it was for the burger...lol
I would have to say that I am guilty of all of the above. My mom was a big girl and always ate the wrong foods. Foods were rewards growing up. I fall into the hype of commercials very easily. I have been known to overeat. I would have to say that I am just starting to learn what a portion of this or that really is.
btw...That commercial was obviously to attract men. Yes there is a young attractive woman. I would have to say she probably didn't eat anymore of that hamburger than she had too.

Figure out what type of eater you are and you might just find the answer to permanent weight loss.
