What is WRONG with me!!!
I have been for the past 10 days, excercising EVERYDAY (1 rest day), and eatinga TIGHTLY regulated 1200 calories a day, and I have only lost 1 friggin kilo!!!!
I have soooooooooo much weight to loseI feel like the weight should be just FALLING off. I dont want to hear any starvation mode crap either, I really need some legitimate possibilities.
Too much salt
not enough water
ummmmm
What could be hampering my efforts
should i be taking a multivitamin???
my advice: hide the scale for 2 weeks and stick to your plan.
drink lots of water. take body measurements and retake them every two weeks. your body is adjusting to this new lifestyle. i know that it is frustrating but you just have to give it some time. you should adjust your caloric intake to the appropriate amount on days that you exercise. make sure that you are eating healthy, nutritious foods. also, do not deprive yourself.
Always take a multivitamin.
Anyways, you're not giving it enough time. A kilo in 10 days is respectable. 3 kilos a month... 36 kilos in a year. It's all relative. Keep it up.
People lose weight at different speeds.. if you are losing, you should not be worrying at all.
How much were you expecting to lose in 10 days? You can lose much more than that in that time period without doing unhealthy things (thereby losing the weight unhealthily). Keep it up and give it time. You'll make yourself crazy if you focus too hard on it. It takes some time for your body to adjust and react to diet/activity changes. Try to think of how everyday you're getting healthier rather than how little you've lost. You'll do fine.
Wow, these are some really helpful comments, thanks for that! I will get my multi vitamin, and stop obsessing over that scale!!!
jen_577, i guess I watched too much biggest loser, and I thought in a bit over a week I could lose like 2 or 3 kilos, but I guess I need to just stick to it! It is a big shock to my body, and I don't know I need to stop stressin!
Oh and I will drink a big swig of water right now!!!
2.2lbs in 10 days? GOOD FOR YOU!! THat's great! It's a healthy speed and at a healthy speed it'll be easier to keep the weight off. Keep going!
sorry about this but I disagree, eating only 1200 calories and doing all that excersise is not good. calorie count have a sedentary level a light activity level and so on with how many calories you should consume for that amount of excersise. 1200 is the lowest a woman can eat but read what CC says and put in the level your at and read what calories you should eat, as you sound as though you are not fueling your body enough, it can not burn on empty. I have lost 6 half stone in 1 year a lengthy process of determination and sticking with CC and balancing how much I eat to how much I excersise.
Its not going to be instant and you should not plump for the lowest and go mad excersising thats not sensible or good health either and your less likely to suceed and keep that level up so calm down and do things slowly and sensibly and it will reep rewards like me.
Drinking loads of water is rubbish and not proved vitamins can boost your well being but can not supplement bad choices and harsh regeems.
I wish you lots of love and luck for the future, but please fuel your body with enough good nutritionally balanced food and be healthy first and then the weight will come off naturally.
Sorry if this is harsh but I wish people would read more carefully CC and follow what they recomend. Its worked for me and the only time I have been on 1200 calories is when I was on a sedentary lifestyle and not excersising much.
love and light astralhippy aka sue
I agree with astralhippy for the most part.
Regarding water, you don't need 'loads' of water, but you do need to drink an adequate amount of water. About 8 cups a day is recommended. If you sweat a lot or eat lots of salt, you'll want to drink more.
Also, when you begin working out, it's normal to retain a little water (i.e. water weight). This will change once your body adjust to the new regimine.
All in all, 2 K in 10 days is great. Congratulations. You're right on target for healthy weight loss. I generally lost about 1 lb (.5 K) a week while I was in weight loss mode. I'm now maintaining.
"I watched too much biggest loser, and I thought in a bit over a week I could lose like 2 or 3 kilos, but I guess I need to just stick to it! It is a big shock to my body, and I don't know I need to stop stressin!"
Also on the biggest loser they work out a crazy amount...like 5 hours a day I heard! So dont compare yourself to them, cuz thats just insane!
I agree with everyone else, stop stressing about the weight, maybe your gaining muscle and losing inches? you should try to take measurements and maybe you will see more progress there. Also, Stressing yourself out only makes it harder on your body to lose the weight!
Keep up the good work!
You're doing great! just make sure you're taking in enough calories! :)
Btw, people seem to forget that 'biggest loser' is a TELEVISION show - they'll put on air whatever it takes to get people to watch. I don't believe for a second that scale people step on is really a scale, or even that accurate. There's also nothing to say that everything that happens in a week actually happens in a week... basically, don't believe anything that has ratings.
don't put so much emphasis on your weight.
to put things in perspective: i've been counting calories & working out for 6 months & have gained 3.5 pounds. i shot up from 145 to 151 and have slooooowly dropped down to 148.5. but my body looks totally different because i'm trading in flabby fat for tight muscle. i have a waist again, my thighs only touch at the top & my underarm wings don't flap quite as much. i'd be having an emotional meltdown if i cared what the scale said. instead, i feel hawter than i have in years.
I understand what astralhippy is trying to say, but last year for months, I was trying to lose weight by working out 3-4 times per week, eating 1500-1700 calories per day. I lost a bit, and then nothing, I felt bloated because I had to eat a lot of food to get up to those numbers, and I was less motivated in the gym because my progress wasnt increasing fast enough. I have a VERY sedentary lifestyle outside of my 1 hour a day at the gym. Like sitting 80% of the time.
I don't think it is too much to ask to get my heart rate up daily. I also feel comfortable with the amount of food I am eating. My diet consists of 3 meals plus 2 snacks per day, I eat lots of vegetables with my meals, and don't eat lots of calorie dense foods like rice too frequently, so my calories can stay low. I could maintain at about 1000 per day, but I supplement the numbers with nuts daily.
I think drinking loads of water is not rubbish. I am 5'10.5 and weigh 138kg, I need a lot of water to just not feel dehydrated, then it is also summer, I think most people are dehydrated to some degree on a day to day basis. I think that I could drink MORE water, because I do have a fair amount of salt in my diet, I don't add it at the table, but I am aware of the amount thats in foods I prepare.
So pardon me if I sound harsh, but doing exactly what CC said to do didn't work for me, so I think it would be crazy for me to keep doing the same thing and expect different results. This is my life I am dealing with, at my weight I am surprised I haven't gotten some chronic diseases, so its just a bit urgent to me.
bigbitty, For me all calories are not created equally. I can eat the same 1200 calories and not lose. Change up my 1200 calorie foods and bam I will lose. Things like msg, sodium, or maybe foods that constipate you. Also, if I do artificial sweeteners I will not lose. I noticed every time I ate at subway I did not lose for 3 days afterwards. Foods have different effects on us and our weight loss. So its not enough just to do 1200 and stick to it, If you don't lose look at your food log and try staying away from those foods. I bet you will lose.
I think that is kind of the point of calorie count and why I like it so much. They don't just dwell on calories alone they give the full report and "grade". It sounds though like bigbitty is at a point of frustration because she is nit picking and it still is not working. My weight loss so far is 7 pounds (3.5k) in a 21 day period and I have a long way to go. I'm only 5'3" and I now weigh 286 (143) so my weight may come off quicker but i've actually never even lost this fast before. All I am doing is sticking to a 1600 calorie diet, eating 2 fruits and 2 veges a day, not eating hardly any foods with aditives, I always read labels and ingredients and make sure I'm not substituting 0 calories for 800mg of sodium (which I have found a lot of fat free stuff loads up with sodium) But you know aside from all the facts and numbers there is one BIG reason why I am at a point of determination to not give up and with an I can do this attitude. I had to stop hating myself. The only One who could take that hatred of myself away was God. I think a lot of us think once we lose the weight then we will love ourself. I know I did. But what I realized is yes we are suppose to take care of our bodies but this body is just a shell. What/Who is inside of us is what matters the most. Only when that is squared away can we truely love ourself and not try to lose weight because we hate ourself but because we love ourself and know that this is not healthy and we must do something about it. Trust me, I of all people understand what it is like to hear it just takes time...at least you're losing some...when you are screaming yeah but I've got so much to lose!! I don't want to just maintain!! But try to think of it this way even if you continued to lose at the rate you are (which I would bet there will be times when you lose more and times when you will lose less) but lets just say you continued at this rate. You would be down 27k in one year and I don't know how much weight you want to lose but for me to lose as much as I want to lose, losing the same 1k about every two weeks I would be to my goal weight in 3 years...I know that seems like forever...but think about one, how long life could be...how many years you are adding to your life. Also think about how many years you have lived with yourself being overweight. In comparision 3 years is miniscule. So be encouraged. And if you ever want to talk I'm in the same boat and would be more than willing to talk with you.
The food additives are a good point. Although I primarily eat home cooked food, I do sometimes eat processed stuff, my cereal in the morning, and apple sauce for snacks occasionally (grade ranges from A-B+). I don't eat sugar subsitutes or anything. But I have switched around my foods, as far as relative proportions on the plate, mostly fresh or steamed veg, 1 cup of what ever the main is, I eat full fat mains, not to say I add a lot of fat, Maybe 1-2T per 10 servings, but not lighted up significantly from usual, portion control was my killer.
I have been overweight for 2 years now, I actually gained from a 80kg framed-140 in about 1 years time, had a shocking bout of postnatal depression. I am not owrried about how long it takes, I just need to know if what I am doing is working for me now.
I am actually happy to say that in the past 5 days, I lost another .9kg, so I think the weight loss is accelerating. For the most part I am listening to my body. I know that while I am losing weight, and this is just me, 1500 is too much. If I am extra hungry one day though, I will eat, Im not going to deny myself what my body needs. But bc of my life style, right now, sitting all the time, not getting out much, unless its to the gym, 1200 is fine. When I start school I will reevaluate, bc I will be out and about. But for now, I am in a low burning situation, I prolly do less than 2000 steps a day in this house haha.
Thanks again.
I checked your profile and you're listed as 139 kg. That means your BMR is over 2000 cals/day. (i.e. If I enter you as 50 years old, I still get a BMR of 2040 calories/day. Any younger than that and the number goes up.) I think the reason you didn't have much luck losing weight before wasn't that you were eating too much - it was that you were eating too little. Check out this website: http://www.phord.com/cc/ to get a detailed breakdown of how many calories you need to consume to stay healthy. It's not generally a good idea to eat fewer calories than your BMR on a regular basis.
Also, it's not reasonable to lose more than 1% of your total weight per week, so the 1 kg loss is pretty darn good.
It took me about 2 weeks until I started seeing the scale move. I KNOW how frustrating that is when you are doing everything you are supposed to and it doesn't budge.
With what you are doing, keep it up, you will see the scale start to move.
Re do your weight assessment. Go to my account>account settings> at the bottom of the account settings you will see target weight goal. Next to it is "advice" Click on advice and re do the survey. change your activiy level and it will give you a new calorie amount that you should be eating.
What are you eating within those 1200? If you are eating processed foods, lean cuisines, etc then you aren't going to lose a pound. You need to eat large & in charge salads filled with fiber rich veggies like bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, asparagus, artichokes, etc and healthy fats like olives, olive oil, salmon, tuna, mackerel, flaxseeds & flaxseed oil...etc. Lean protein is also a large component to weight loss which includes the fish I already mentions along with others & chicken & turkey breast, lean cuts of red meat & eggs. Drink green tea, seltzer water, black coffee & herbal tea regularly... Take vitamin D, Calcium & B-Vitamins too! I find the website LEF.ORG to be very insightful on what people should take depending on their aches, pains & qualms! Good Luck! You look so happy in your photo and your son (if that is your son) is adorable!!
stwright I needed to hear that. I have been so sad and frustrated. Doing everything right and scale went up and down a pound for a week or two. My mindset was becoming defeated. It always helps to know that someone else experienced this and conquered it . Tina
