I have always been reasonably active. I coach mixed martial arts and play hockey.
Before Christmas and for the last year I have been hovering around 215.
Over Christmas I gained 10lbs and was the heaviest I've ever been on Dec 31st at 225 lbs. My wife and I decided to start living a healthier life style.
In 07 I would be going to a fast food joint 3-4 times a week. My typical meal would be a bigmac, fries, coke, and 6 pack of chicken mcnuggets. We also would frequent DQ a lot.
So in 08 we decided to cut out most of the fast food and eat a home more. I've only been 2x to fast food this month and haven't eaten fries yet this year. I've increase to 2 nights a week of hockey and do 1 night of kick boxing, 1 night of wrestling, and on off days I go hard on the elliptical for 1/2 hr or 1 hr.
When I joined here on Jan 11. I was 217. So from Jan 1-11 I went from 225 to 217. Now here on the 26th I am still 217. What the heck.
There is a very good chance that you went from eating too much, to too little.
Also a good possibility that you've gained muscle.
So I need to know, how many calories a day are you eating?
Also how tall are you?
I am 6'0" and know that a great athletic weight for me would be between 170 and
185 lbs. I actually want to compete in martial arts again and thats why I am aiming for the 185 mark.
I have kept track of my calories and seem to average around 2200 per day although I think that it might actually be higher because I don't have a scale to weigh my food so I am just guessing.
I just figured if I cut out cheese and fast food and increased my exercise that I would lose the weight quickly.
I have had days where the lowest I have eaten was 1600 calories but also on the weekend I have a cheat day where I eat as much as I want and have gone up to 3300 calories which according to the bmi thing is what my body should burn off just surfing the net. Maybe my resting metabolism isn't as high as I think.
Thanks for the responses
I'm not surprised that your weight loss has stalled a little. If you're expecting that kind of quick loss, you're going to be disappointed. You really would be pushing it to lose 2lbs a week.
It "seems" like you're eating enough. But you could be burning up to an additional 1000 calories per work out. I don't really know.
The only harm in eating more would be gaining muscle, which will burn fat off faster without any "dieting" effort.
Hopefully someone else can chime in, I'm not really great with helping out guys.
Calculating your Expenditure with your stats, I got that you burn 2500 a day sitting around.
So if you're burning 1000 exercising, that could be as much as 3500 total burn. Also meaning, you should definately not take in any less than 2500 calories on those days.
Short answer? You're not doing anything wrong. Just try to get a more precise calculation on your calorie intake, make sure it's enough. Your weight will fall with a little patience =).
Trust me I know where you're at, but you must log everything, and I mean everything to really see what is going on, for atleast 2 weeks. And like I said I know how you feel I hit a plautea after losing some weight and it lasted 3 months, but when I got serious and honest and logged every bite, every condiment I realized how much I really was eating and then subtracted all the work out burn figures divided by 3500 cal for losing 1 lb and I came out right on. If we eat less thqan we burn you will lose!!!! it's alot of work and pain in the ass but it really does work!
