I started to count calories again last monday and worked out 4 days that week. Felt great but had 8 street tacos and 2 cupcakes on Sat. walked on sunday to burn some cals from sat and had a low key day of eating. So monday I hoped on the scale and I lost 3 lbs. I also thought that my intake was a bit low since i started to get dizzy a lot so I upped it by a few 100 - 150 cals this week . Everything is going good, didn't want to weight myself since I felt really good and could see a lot of toning up in my arms and legs already. So today I hopped on the scale again and I suddenly gain my 3 lbs back. WTF. I am drinking a lot of water and green tea. working out everyday about and hour cardio and 1/2 hour pilates. So what is the deal. Anyone else have this. Did I just lose water weight before and then put it back on. Any advice?

It could have just been water weight you lost, or you could be retaining some water right now, or it could be undigested food, many factors, maybe even a bit of muscle gain.

Frustrating, isn't it?  That's why the weight log here has a trend line.  Our daily weights go up and down--it's the trend that's important.

I gain up to 4 pounds if I eat salty food (like Chinese or pizza) then the four pounds goes away.  You're doing the right things.  Keep at it!

Also if you're building muscle that can contribute to retaining water and simply just gaining more weight because muscle will be denser than fat.

The Trend line is crazy.

Here are my last four weigh-ins:

Date        ;        Weight      Trend
2008-10-23    245.50      246.25
2008-10-22    247.50      244.80
2008-10-21    248.50      244.95
2008-10-20    250.00      245.20

So what the heck is happening with the Trend? It jumped up to 246.25 from 244.80 on a day that my actual weight was down by two pounds, after three days of decreasing weight and Trend.

Me too!! I go by the trend line to give me a 'true' picture of my losses (or gains?!)

I think I've read that the trend line on here takes an average of the last 10 weigh-ins? I could be wrong though?

UGH... I am not going to get a good grasp of any wieght loss since I gain weight before my period. CRAP.. well I jut hve to be patient. Thanks all for the words. So happy that I am not the only one with this problem of fluctuating.

I know that my weight can vary a LOT.  I tend to weigh myself multiple times throughout the day (probably a bad habit but oh well) and one day a few weeks ago, I was 193 when I got up.  I weighed myself several more times and at one point that day I was 199!  That's six pounds!!  I do drink an awful lot, but still... the next morning I was back to about 193.  So it just varies a lot.  I used to get really frustrated when I wouldn't see weight loss within a few days or overnight, and give up and go eat brownies or something.  (Seriously, I've done that - hopped off the scale, angry because I wasn't down, and gone straight to the kitchen to have brownies.)

Now I look at about two weeks.  Do I weigh less than I did two weeks ago?  If so, I feel okay.  Sometimes my weight isn't down on my "weigh-in day" so it takes two weeks for it to show up as being down.
