Wuddya Think?
I bought some Blue Menu sausages which were 170 calories each, 10 grams of fat. I took them out of their casings however, and used them in a sauce. I cooked them slowly, rendering fat away from the meat. I drained this thinking I was cutting calories and fat- but was I really? My question is this: If the sausages say 170 cals, 10g fat each, but I cook them in this manner, am I reducing either, or is fat reduction expected? If I was to eat each on of those babies raw, as is, would the nutrition more or less match the packaging?
I've wondered the same for all ground meats. Any ideas?
If you cooked them in the sauce and then ate the sauce as well... then I would include the whole 170Cals as the fat is still in the sauce.
But if you drained of the fat, there would definately be a reduction in Cals but the only way to calculate it would to be to weigh the fat that was drained.
Hope this helps!
Thank you for that speedy reply. I cooked them, drained the excess fat, and THEN added the sauce. I don't care enough to weigh the fat, I just like knowing I've done something better for myself today :)
I used to count calories and grams of fat intake. But I think that's just too tiring. My technique now is to eat the fattening stuff in the morning or at lunch. Go for a light dinner. This saves you time and energy. Just my two cents
