Wylie Dufresne's WD-50... What to eat on the menu!???
Everything on the menu is SO sinful! I got reservations on Sunday and I'm just stuck on what to eat! Should I even eat at all... this is killing me! LOL
I have my high school reunion in October and I am aiming to lose 40 pounds.
Damn this world for delicious food!!
Anyone got suggestions? Anyone been there?
TIA
Can you make that day a maintenance/cheat day? Or maybe snack a little during the day and save up your calories? Life is too short to go to a restaurant like that and eat a plate of lettuce - indulge a little! From what I've seen of his food it will be worth it (or at least it would to me!).
ETA: love your avatar :)
would just eating half of what you order keep you in a good range?
someone here says they box up half their entree before they even start eating, which I plan to do when I ever ever get to go out again. heh.
I can't image the portions being huge at this place either. I wish they had pictures of the food on the menu.
I guess I should eat very little or just go all out.
This is a birthday gift for the in-law but It's a FREE meal too... I might as well go crazy.
Too bad no one posted if they have been here or not... bummer =(
Ok, you are eating at Wylie Dufresne's restaurant. He is one of the most innovative chefs out there and is the leader in molecular gastronomy. So I say go for it and eat as this will be a once in a lifetime event . . . unless you go there all of the time to eat.
Oh and I forgot to mention that he has a Michelin star . . . I doubt that you eat food prepared by chefs who are Michelin rated all that often. So my advice, again, is just go and eat and enjoy yourself.
Nothing on the menu is sinful just as long as you order it correctly! Plus it looks as if the portions are very small so even if you didn't modify the menu you'd probably still be alright ordering anything! If I were you I'd totally get that EEL because I am a huge fan (although not a lot of people are....)
And then for a main course I'd get ANY of the fish dishes but just ask for all vegetable side dishes not prepared with butter or fried... and to make sure the fish is cooked with olive oil, no butter.
You will be fine though don't worry! I am jealous though, I want to go and sample some of their food too! ha ha!
Mmmm, I love eel too - it's so delicious!
Let us know what you end up ordering, OP - it all looks really yummy!
Woah, bad-ass. I don't know what kind of restaurants you're used to eating in, but if you don't regularly eat at Michelin-star restaurants I suggest you take a cheat day and fully enjoy his food. And you should DEFINITELY eat.
I wouldn't even suggest asking Wylie to modify his food as he truly is respected as a genius in the foodie world (and molecular gastronomy is literally a science). But it's your diet and your call, and I'm sure you'd be paying out the nose for his chefs to accomodate you.
Personally, I'd do the tasting menu. :D It's bloody insane what I've seen the man do with food.
I'm horribly jealous.
The problem is eating out to all these places is what got me in trouble in the first place. There's so much yummy food here in NYC.
The issue is - I was trying to be good considering I put myself on this weight loss goal for my high school reunion.
A collegue of mine here at BRAVO said the portions are small... so it's not too bad. The tasting menu is SO tempting! I would just about get the 8 course dessert menu and call it a night.
What do you say?!! LOL
One night isn't going to hurt me! LOL
