Rats are usually tied in with unsanitary conditions. What is your worst memory relating to food hygiene? During a holiday abroad in Italy we sat down in a coffee bar and cafe in Florence. Thankfully, we didn't stay for long - there was mould growing on the coffee cup my Dad was presented with, and after five minutes of looking around we caught sight of rats and of waiting staff flicking cigarette ash on tables! Ew.

Tiger, tiger, burning bright, famous for it’s vibrant stripes. What is the most colourful thing you’ve eaten? I remember our table being presented with an exotic fruit platter at a Thai restaurant, and it was stacked high with all sorts of vibrant fruits. It was so pretty - to a point we didn't want to eat it! Well, almost didn't.

Would you ever hunt for your food, whether meat or foraging? Have you already? I'd give it a go, in terms of hunting for meat. I have foraged for food before as part of a group - mushrooms!

What’s your favourite preparation of carrots? As part of a cottage pie, or in a mash.

Would you eat a rabbit? No.

How spicy do you like your food? Very spicy indeed, though not enough to blow my head off.

How well-done do you like your foods? Fan of burnt toast, perhaps? I like my meat rare, my eggs well-cooked and otherwise as long as it won't give me food poisoning or taste like charcoal I'm good.

What is your worst memory relating to food poisoning? I came down with a bout of food poisoning after recovering from a kidney infection. Two weeks on a liquid diet. I can no longer stomach supplement drinks without gagging.

Goats are known to eat pretty much anything. What’s the most random thing you have ever consumed - even if you weren’t supposed to eat it? Tie between dog food and a caterpillar. Both were on a dare. D: I do not encourage consumption of either!

Are you an advocate of free-range poultry rearing, or do you not care? I am. I was before I saw it, but there was a program shown in the UK where a TV chef (Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstal) set up a chicken farm - one in battery conditions, one free-range. Seeing how battery hens were raised was absolutely horrifying.

Considering many chickens are corn-fed, how do you best like to use corn in cooking? Polenta's awesome. So are corn tortillas.


DOG

Dogs can tolerate a lot of foods but are extremely sensitive to others. Do you have foods you can’t stomach - literally? Lactose. Anything very acidic. Large quantities of fat (healthy or no), red meat, alcohol or caffeine in a short period of time.

What is a balanced diet to you? A mixture of the "healthy" and "unhealthy", one that limits nothing beyond what your body allows (allergies; intolerances; GI problems, etc) and beliefs (religion; vegetarianism and veganism, etc). 80% healthy, 20% fun, with a good mix of carbs, proteins, fats, dairy (or alternatives) and fruit and veg in a day.

Dogs can tolerate a lot of foods but are extremely sensitive to others. Do you have foods you can’t stomach - literally? alfredo sauce...I' ve had a few bad experiences and now refuse to eat the stuff...taco bell also may cause this but that one is worth the sacrifice

What is a balanced diet to you? Good balance of protein, carbs, fats.  I try to get atleast 5-6 servings fruits/veggies everyday and make sure my protein and fats are high enough. (Proteins 20-25%, Fats: 20%) otherwise I'm prone to overeat.  I'm a strong believer in moderation and don't think any foods are "bad"...just need to know how to control yourself

Rats are usually tied in with unsanitary conditions. What is your worst memory relating to food hygiene? The Chinese food place in the mall back home. One of the workers would come into the store where I worked. Once I was cleaning the bathrooms and he needed to use it, so I stepped out. He didn't wash his hands, and when I saw him later, working, his hands were covered with a layer of brownish dirt stuff. Yuck.

What is your favourite preparation of beef - or beef flavoured product? I don't eat meat or beef flavored things. When I did about three years ago I sort of liked veggie and beef stew. But mostly for the veggies.

What is a balanced diet to you? Lots of vegetables, enough protein, natural fats (plant or animal, but no partially hydrogenated, overly processed gunk). I rotate my foods out - I'll eat mostly the same three or four vegetables every day until they're gone, but I'll probably buy some different ones next time I go to the store, so I get a healthy variety but don't have to buy twenty different foods at once.

Ooh, nice one. I've given up supermarket beef and have gone organic locally raised, well treated grass-fed or halal meat lately. To be perfectly honest, I love steak over a bed of lettuce with a sprinkling of cheese, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, red onion, green peppers and whatever other vegetable I can cram on... oh yes and some balsamic vinegar. Not a common steak meal but one I have grown to love.

After a hard day's work, I actually like to relax with some Green Roobios tea, steeped for 10 minutes.

During the hard day's work (once again, I have a physical warehouse job) I do like to snack on nuts though not in huge quantities. Fruits are great, and I've taken to eating raspberries. As far as meals go, 6" of a 5 dollar footlong at subway is enough to sate me for a meal these days. All I have time for now!

Then it's sliced and the flavour is just right while a miniscule amount of calories was absorbed by the beef!
