Xmas Day Dinner

Quote  |  Reply

Hi Everyone,

I'm just looking for your thoughts on this one, I'm going out for dinner on xmas day, I've seen the Menu and I know roughy whats best for me, but I'm not sure if I should just blow it for one day and have all the things I really want (Soup, Steak and Brandy & Chocolate cake) I've written the menu below, what would you have if you were me?

 Starters

  • Soup and crusty bread
  • Melon Balls and Sorbet
  • Smoked Salmon with blue cheese
  • Pate with Oatcakes

Main Course

  • Turkey with all the trimmings
  • Sirlion Steak with Asparagus
  • Salmon in Lemon Butter
  • Chickpea curry

Deserts

  • Fruit Salad with Ice Cream
  • New York style Cheesecake
  • Brandy Chocolate cake
  • Christmas Pudding
Then I think you have tea or coffee with mince pies.

well, if i were you, i think i would take the melon balls and sorbet, turkey and fruit salad with ice cream. however! when ordering, i would ask the waiter not to add the sorbet in the starter and not to add the ice cream in the dessert. [it'll save so much cals!]

Well, if it's an Xmas dinner, I would treat myself, so:

Smoked Salmon with bleu cheese; steak with asparagus; and brandy chocolate cake.

But that's just me.  You can always make special requests to make your choices a lot healthier.

There are only a few times you can truly treat yourself every year in my opinion: Birthdays and Christmas, and if you're getting married or having a momentous celebration.

Look, we all know moderation is the key to a healthy life. I would eat what you want however, I would finish each meal. We can treat ourselves, we deserve to do so and reel it back in the follow day. That's my take on it. Have a Merry Christmas!

Soup and crusty bread

Sirlion Steak with Asparagus

(I am diabetic, and none of the desserts work for me.)

=^..^= MOLLY

it all comes down to if you are willing to splurge a little and feel okay with yourself, or if you'd rather stick to your normal calorie intake. if it's the former, eat whatever you want and enjoy your christmas dinner. if it's the latter, then i'd go with what ecstaticfart said.

no matter what, know that the world will not end if you have one cheat day. the next day you can get right back on track. however, it's just as fine to not splurge if you're not comfortable with it.

I would go soup w/ bread, chickpea curry, fruit salad w/ ice cream. That's probably not the lowest calorie, but it's the lightest and least likely to make you uncomfortably stuffed. It also would be the most enjoyable to me personally...

What's Christmas Pudding? :o
It's Christmas! I'd have whatever I wanted which would def be the melon, steak & cheesecake! It's just one of those days where you should forget about counting & just go with it! Smile

Soup with bread (if it's broth based; salmon w/o bleu cheese if soup's cream based)

Sirloin steak with asparagus

Fruit salad with ice cream for dessert and I'd see if I could get a bite of someone elses richer dessert!

Thanks everyone, I think I'll have a cheat day to be honest, I want to enjoy myself and not think about cals just enjoy my day with my family and eat what I feel like eating on the day.

Primadonna9396 Christmas pudding is a really heavy fruity cake that we have in the UK, I'm not sure you have this in the US? its normally covered in Brandy over here then set on Fire.

Merry Chrismas everyone thank for your comments.

mmmmmmmmm sounds delicious Lindsay what you don't eat bring home in a doggy bag for me hehe

Good idea just enjoying the day with your family-)
