xp..I rock at cooking :)
I made a super simple and tasty pasta sauce tonight.
2 can of canned fired roasted tomatoes
4 basil leaves
2-4 gloves of garlic, minced.
Meat of your choice, if wanted
I boiled my sausage according to package directions, then browned it. Once I removed it from the pan, I turned up the heat and slowly added one can of the tomatoes to deglaze the pan, then added the rest, along with garlic and basil. Cover and let simmer! Super yummy and good!
The tomatoes have 30 calories per serving, and 3.5 servings per can. I didn't use salt or pepper, because my browned sausage and deglazed the pan and that gave the sause a good flavor. You can add red pepper flakes and other spices. I kept it simple. Enjoy!
YAY for homemade pasta sauces! I loveee making my own pasta sauce. I tend to put in 1 cup of grated carrots and 1 cup of chopped spinach in my sauces as a way to get in more veggies. The carrots do make the sauce a bit sweeter so I always add a bit more crushed red pepper flakes than usual and the BF (who does not like carrots at ALL) cannot tell!
I've never used fresh basil, just dried. I wonder if it makes a difference? Thanks for sharing your recipe! :)
amandief,
in my opinion there's no comparison between dried and fresh basil. Fresh is yummy, and it's really easy to keep a pot growing on your kitchen window...try it and you will never use dried again! I also grow parsley, coriander and rosemary in pots - they taste so much nicer than dried.

Agreed with fresh herbs!
