Hello all....

This website changed my life. ( : Sounds overly dramatic, but it is true. I hope to look back a year or so from now and think, "I am forever grateful......"  Anywho, I think my favorite part of cc, aside from all the great educational information, is the overwhelming support and friendship I've found here. I guess most of my life I've only trusted and truly befriended a handful of unique women---I hold my friends in the highest regard and do not take camraderie lightly. The women I have met here are seriously my spiritual twins! I always felt very alone in my weight loss journey----no more!

That said, I think my cc girls, and you know who you are, are the best! ( :   My buddies, my pals, my soul sisters =P Chat away to motivate yourself and others! ( ;

lol, I plan to use wogger as a "vocab in context" mini-lesson in the first week of school. That is one of the first skills we reteach/get started with----I love it! The kids will too.....I can already picture them figuring out other funny combos (sigh, but secretly laughing)

tamara--I like ot be the best, but I seriously lack hand eye coordination. I am a kick ass dancer with music at the club, but I sort of suck at learning new moves (as in work out dvd). I've been known to injure myself pretty spectacularly, doing the stupidest things. I am pretty good at volleyball, love soccer----hate anything with, Beavis and Butthead laugh, small balls...... LOL, snort! I.e. anything but mini golf, baseball (SCARY!) + I can't catch, hit, throw, anything except maybe run bases, tennis except to serve really hard.... shrug, I'd like to be able to pick up new stuff like you! ( :

Hey jenna...... hhmmmmmm, I too have my questions on this issue.....

---Apparently my goal of 140, can be reached by August of 08 doing 1700 some cals a day or by April 08 doing 1414 a day.  Girls!  help!  does that mean that I can eat anywhere from 1200 (least) 1400(first goal) -1700 (last goal) daily and still maintain weight loss with exercising?  why am I so clueless all of a sudden??  should I try to maintain the same number of cals a day or can I do a range being that I have 2 time frames (anything sooner than april was too aggressive accroding to CC).  I'm sorry I'm such a dimwit right now.  I've read alot of other posts but don't really get the whole "eating back your calories thing".  I just want to know if I can eat withint the range and never go higher than 1700 or try to stick with the same number everyday!  :)

To be honest, I have a very hard time these days getting the calories back from the exercise that I may or may not need, the may or not be a good idea to do, etc! WHo the heck knows without trying? In the beginning, I made myself exercise, just so I could eat more---plain and simple looking back. Then I realized it made me feel good and I was looking forward to it, now that's not the issue---the eating is, but not in the way it used to be..... God, women are complex! Like yesterday, I looked back over the last month and it's not usually this pronounced (I swear!), but yesterday I wogged Bandit (it that the funniest context sentence ever!?!?!?!), I wogged alone for 1.5 miles, really pushing myself to wog as much of it as I could, AND I push mowed the yard for about an hour in like 105 heat. My cal exp. said about 900 and I ate high 15 something.....I actually realized last night, I really have gotten into the habit of sitting here most of the morning after wogging and shower with you girls, having a light brunch/lunch, usually a snack around 3ish and then I try to make sure I get the cals I need all through out the evening hours.... (last night I was forcedto eat dilicious turkey pepperoni and a slice of real (i.e. fat free) cheese to get my cals to what they were. It's not something to complain about,  and I know the eating will be even easier once school starts as I will be starving from all the running around again.   Anyone else have the same questions with eating back and different goal weight estimates---speaking of which, jenna--where do your different numbers come from? Different end goal times...?

Is it interesting to you how introspective you've become since starting to really lose weight?

Like for instance.... I love making my own recipes up, entering them into the analyzer, tweaking them until they are as low cal AND satisifying as I can get 'em, and then  my favorite part? I make sure I make them from things I can leave in medium/large pieces, chuncks and bits, so I can savor each flavor on its own..... carrot. celery. cabbage. shrimp! (jambalya ROCKS and is 60 cals a cup = lunch = 2 cups = full!)

Get all your work done, dudette! And hey, my brain hurts---you hate dancing but you can learn choreographed stuff from a dvd? I'm jealous,..... I was a cheerleader even---how I ever learned all that crap, I will never know.....


well August of 08 will be right before we go to the beach next year and April 08 is just when M turns 2 which is another significant date in my head as when I put in March 08 (my bday) it said that my goal was too aggressive. 
jenna--I've read that counting calories is the only proven way to long term weight loss.

AND I don't believe in "eating back calories"... I really feel like consistent exercise probably revs weight loss...and it's a A"bonus" as opposed to something you calculate with calories... but who am I to talk... I work out EVERY DAY...  usually for 600-1000 calories... eat 1500 calories a day.. .am 234 pounds and haven't lost any weight for two weeks, so there you have it!  The calorie "eat back" people say I need to up my consumption by like 500 calories a day...  (Trying it on Friday for a week if I don't lose anything this week)...

I did see on that most commonly looked at forum library called The MAth which I thought was REALLy cool... does not account at all for "eating back" calories or anything...

Yea... I thought it was really cool... it ALSO tells me to eat 1900 calories a day and I ignore that, too... I am sooo pig headed!!  *lol*

As for breakfast... I USUALLY have about 300 or more there... funny... I don't eat "meals" anymore... AT ALL... except probably dinner... (sometimes breakfast)... but other than that I eat at 100 calorie increments or so all day long...  and usually have a protein bar in there somewhere.

Sodium... other than in a random handful of lunchmeat... is not really an issue with me... I don't even salt my vegetables.. .like the way that taste au natural.
Oh yea... and I meant to add olivia as for injuries... I gave myself a black eye dropping weights on my face doing a chest press...

Fell THROUGH a glass coffee table which was ALL the way across the room when I SPECTACULARLY flew off my aerobic high step while trying, unsuccesffully, to grab a hold of the resistance band I had under it.  (I think the cat actually laughed at mel)

but if I do the same workouts over and over again... I start to lose interest (hence the new songs on the mp3 player, the new socks, and the medicine ball... which when I bought it my husband said "you're going to be THROWING an 8pound ball in the living room?  I wonder what kind of damage that will do!"  Thanks honey!)

Anyway... I'm at my parents' house right now... Her Precor elliptical needed service.. .and the guy just left... so I now need to check it and make sure it works before dinner shopping!   Yay... it is after all spaghetti night!
okay thanks Tamara!  I also posted my questions in the weight loss to see what kind of response I get.  I really need to know if eating within that range will help me lose weight of if it should be steady number everyday. 

but thanks for the info on the cals at breakfast!  I thought mine was high but I guess it's okay if you go higher! 

I try to eat every 3 hours so my body doesn't think it's starving!
Hey!  Miss "had the entire summer off" it's my work week and I'll make it go faster if I want too!!  :P  Just kidding, for some reason I was ahead of the game yesterday too and thought it was Tuesday all day and kept saying "weigh in is tomorrow" when really weigh in is Wed, now it's tomorrow. 

Mmmmm, yummy salad, I'm so glad I don't like dressing!  It saves me so many cals!  I'm about to dig into my strawberries that smell so amazing! 

Olivia- yes we always tent to post at the same time!!  I keep telling D "Olivia beat me to posting now I have to go reply again!".  He makes fun of me all night checking the forum and replying.  He keeps telling me I'm writing a book.  And we're totally ahead of our other post!  4 pages in two days?!!  Awesome!  Couldn't do it without you guys!!
first, I have to applaud tamara because seriously, I cried the first time I realized I wasn't going to use salt on whatever it was I was eating. Good for you--and I am officially out of ideas why you're semi-stuck, girl. I bought like $15 workth of other spices, herbs, and Mrs. Dashes when I decided to cut back on salt.... LOL, sick! Hopefully the eating back calorie people are geniuses and totally correct! ( : I hope so--I listened back in June and I thought it worked...

hey jenna! My bday is April 6th! ( :   too aggressive, schmaggressive =P lol, yeah, I tried to enter in the wedding I'm in as my goal date for 150 and then up in increments until I was depressed and just left it blank.   lol   Oh, and I don;t think your breakfast was too big....I think eat until you are done--some days you'll be more hungry than others.... I need to dust off my canister of protein powder for fast approaching school mornings. Thanks for reminding me I had those. I was all stessing like, can I drink oatmeal in the car.....? because I do NOT want to be rude and eat in my ride's car + the smell etc, but I do always (well---used to) have a big coffee cup and could totally drink that for a jump start in the am! Good idea-r! My biggest downfall is how awesome all carb breakfast foods = YUMMY--waffles, cereal, blah blah blah, but since I switched to soy milk, I can tell I don't have the all carb, hungry the rest fo the day becasuse of it feeling..... also, love the Egg Beaters.... figured out I can make those quickly in the micro for quick shovelings on days I have a few extra minutes or need more protein!

I check it all day/night too---J laughs less since he sits at his computer a lot too, working on the websites he's developing free lance and playing some game with his friend online.... =P  I was laughing just now that we've filled up that many in less time even than last. Black eyes are nothing! lol  I wanted so badly to be sporty when I was younger until I realized how bad I really was..... worst example--- skateboarding. I think I might go with the stick with 1 number a day, but maybe not the whole week. like adding in 300 as a cheat 1 day a week if I stick with 1400. 

yes protein shakes are awesome for breakfast!  they keep me satisfied and I throw in frozen fruit as the ice to make them "frozen".  this am I had cappuchino protein powder, 1 tbspn of cocoa powder, splenda packet and 1/2 frozen banana, came out to 163!  :)  
clearly... I am not working out yet.. .okay.. .here I go for real... but this is "the math" post...  I'm just copying it exactly from the other thread.. but it's so nifty!

Alot of people on this site get obsessed about the Math!  I was OBSESSED but I figured it out for me.  Maybe it'll work for some of you.

Firstly I had to figure out MY BMR     &nbs p;  & nbsp;      &nbs p;  & nbsp;      &nbs p;  & nbsp;     http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

Which is 1483.15 (the number of calories my body burns if I stay in bed all day)

Then using the Harris Benedict Formula:
Harris Benedict Formula To determine your total daily calorie needs, multiply your BMR by the appropriate activity factor, as follows:


  1. If you are sedentary (little or no exercise) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.2
  2. If you are lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.375
  3. If you are moderatetely active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.55
  4. If you are very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.725
  5. If you are extra active (very hard exercise/sports & physical job or 2x training) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.9


I'm moderatetely active working out 5 days a week
 1483.15 x1.55=2298.89

Knowing that, I multiplied by 7 to figure out the total number of calories I need a week 16,098. I then created a 3500(1 lb) deficeit. 16098-3500=12598 then I divided by 7(days in a week) I then came up the amount of calories I should consume a day 1799 to successfully lose 1lb per week.  (you can adjust the pounds lost per week, but try not to have a 1000 deficeit per day as I learned from a great help online.)

I know most people know this but it took me forever to figure it out.  I'm using mine as an example because examples do help.  I hope this helps all who are interested.

I got all excited when I realized that counting calories had made me able to do math in my head---- if 22 slices of Canadian bacon = 80 cals, then 6 pieces = X, and I figured it out! (DORK of the century also)

I've been doing ok by not on purpose at all, just zigzagging cals based on eating when I eat, so I don;t think I;ll start thinking I have to have THIS many cals etc, but it's good to know.....

Thanks for the example, I gotta do that too!  I feel like I'm not loosing and will know tomorrow morning at weigh in.  Question to anyone: why is 500 the magic number and why is a deficiet or 1000 not twice as good?  Maybe I'm just being dumb but I eat 1500-1700 cals a day but when I wog I still end up with a deficiet of 1000 or so.  Just wondering!

I guess we're spring babies!  I'm May 11th so a little behind but around the same time!  I get excited about b-days and tend to celebrate mine for about a week making D pay for everything!  It all goes on the same bill but whatever!!

anything below 1000 and you go into starvation mode... ao your body won't let go of it's stored fat.  I SUPPOSE this is what's happening to me...

In a WAY I believe this is true... I did a VLCD (very low calorie diet) several years ago... 800 calories a day regardless of workout... and working out was ENCOURAGED after the first four weeks.

The thing was... the people running the program were INSISTENT that you COULD NOT cheat on this diet... because if you did... your body would grab a hold of any kind of nutrient you gave it and not let go... I did NOT cheat and lost 4-7 pounds PER WEEK CONSISTENTLY for 8 months...

However, people would come in and SWEAR the only cheating they did was to eat a muffin one day... and would have a TWELVE POUND weight gain for the week... the nutritionists/behaviorists said this was possible...because their starving bodies wanted the food...  Whatever, I never tested the theory...

But... now.. .if you have a calorie defecit over 1000 a day... and then the next day eat near your BMR... your body will hold all of that... so the starvation people say...

lol, we always tried to milk for all it was worth when we were kids, so I still do (plus my sis' bday is the 9th of April, so we double teamed mom!). J is TERRIBLE x 20 about pestering me to let him open presents early no matter what the occasion AND trying to force me to open mine too! GOSH---I would have had not one thign to open on our actual anniversary if it had been up to him. I kept coming home to new stuff on my desk---widescreen monitor....speakers.....wireless keyboard and mouse...... Finally I cried and said I better have something left to open next Friday, and he stopped. lol   SO, I feel a little justified in saying things like please would you do that---it's almost my birthday..... ( :

thanks so so so much Tamara, slowly and I do mean slowly -using your example (awesome) and then the link I figured out my equation and it came out to be 1414 which is what CC said for me to do to reach my goal by April 08!  Which was me creating that 2 lb deficit (7000) I'm guessing and don't want to confuse myself too much by doing it but I'm guessing that the 1700 cal was at a 1 lb deficit to reach by August 08.  But I think I'm going to stick with the April one.

Okay well then I'm definately going by 1400, and if I go over a bit 1x a week I will never let it go over 1700!  and even if I got to 1700 I won't be harming my diet because dun dunna daaaa! I'm within my range.  Okay, I can see clearly now the rain has gone.......and boy do I feel like singing!  I can see success ahead of me girls, I really can.  Now on to breaking this dang 9 lb barrier that I've been stuck on...:)

I'm going to try to log as much on here as I can but I find it some of it so dang confusing, you type in chicken and it's like chicken roasted, chicken meat only cooked chicken stewed (what?)  I just ate some chicken breast yo yos!  simplicity works best for me, so that way I have to guess and others like protein shakes and my additives aren't on here so I'll also be tallying my cals on my own with a good ol' pen.

We'll see if it's working tomorrow when I step on the scale!  I ate really good today, cheerios, fiber 1 bar and big salad for lunch with just cheese (1oz) and sunflower seeds (unsalted).  No clue what everyone will want for dinner but hopefully somethere where I can eat healthy.  They actually sound like they want to go to the grocery store and cook, which is fine by me!  I need more fruit!  My strawberries were a little disappointing (looked better than they really were) but better than the Twizzler NIBS I almost bought at lunch!  So yay!  And I'm totally stuffed from salad and fruit and water!  Who ever thought that could be possible!  I have a peach and nectarine that I have to eat today too because they're going to go bad soon so as long as I keep up my fruit instead of crap food tomorrow morning should go well!  Lots of water for me today!

I just noticed that every sentance ends in an exclamation point, that's just my way of saying yay I guess!

I'm off to clean the last parts of the house (bathrooms, ugh) before company in two hours or so depending on traffic.  I'll try and get on later tonight but if now, I'll check in tomorrow and let you know how weigh in goes.

Abbs ? Totally excited for you for the homework AND the belt loop!!! That is so amazing! I love that you are involved with Relay. My stepmom was diagnosed with breast cancer just weeks after her and my dad married; she was only in her late 20?s. VERY SCARY! She survived (thank the Lord) but I remember her going thru it all, it was very frightening and when I think about it now it freaks me out. I?m sorry you lost ur gramma, but I?m glad ur keeping her memory alive by doing something to help others. You amaze me more and more everyday girl! What August challenge are you doing? I thought I was doing the same as you, and we weigh in on Fridays??  Sorry D is being a jerk, but good for you for being nice and helpful! Glad he called to apologized later!

Music ? OMG! We all are definitely eclectic when it comes to music, I?m all about 80?s, I love love it! But I love country (listening to Dixie Chicks on iPod right now), rap, hip-hop, EVERYTHING!!! Seriously, there isn?t much I don?t like. A got me into Metallica (he is their hugest fan ? seriously, I could go on and on about that, but that is a whole other story), and other rockish bands. I?m not into hard rock, I think that and whiny old country songs are the only things I don?t really like. Oh man, I have an 80?s playlist on the iPod that I think I?m going to switch to now!! J Oh, and don?t let me forget my main man Elton and my looove for Celine Dion. I saw both in Vegas both shows were so good! I too am a Phil Collins fan! Last ngiht, while cleaning the house I was Singing OUT LOUD at the top of my lungs, I think I freaked the cats out! Hope the neighbors didn?t hear! lol

HAPPY TUESDAY! In much better mood today! And today is day ONE of my road to recovering from coffee addiction! LOL. Per all you tlak abotu Green Tea I decided to stop having my starbucks bottled coffee (200 cals) in the morning, and change it up with Green Tea! Yay for me! I'm off to get the reast of my breakfast/snack = hard boiled egg! Maybe some raspberries too! Why am I still eating breakfast and you gys are preparing for dinner?
