Wow.  I've tried them and I could never get it.  I eventually quit; it's not worth hurting my hands like that (tree branches are very rough, aren't they?).

Thanks guys. As you know I'm doing New Rules, it was my last workout for stage 6 (I had to go through stage 6 twice). Earlier this week (during TOM I am actually weaker) it just didn't look like I was going to get up there, but then my upper body decided to give me a little surprise yesterday . Unfortunately I celebrated with some food yesterday, haha.

I've just started NROLFW and I was eye-balling that section. I can't imagine that I'll be able to do an unassisted chin-up in the next year : )

I've yet to decide if I want to skip it or not...

Just a warning to you peeps that have shoulder problems. It seems that doing very slow negatives ain't so good. My supraspinatus got a little wonky, can't lift for at least 10 days then I'm on some rehab exercises. But its gotta be done if I want to do chin/pull-ups with perfect form later on. My next goal is 10 of them. Oh well, my legs need some attention anyway.
