YAZ - Anybody Else An Emotional Wreck?

Quote  |  Reply

Wasn't quite sure where to post this, sorry if this isn't the right place but I had a question for anybody who has taken or is taking YAZ.

I am on my first month of YAZ and down to my last 2 active pills and I am an EMOTIONAL WRECK!   I have started crying at the drop of a hat for no reason!  I am not much of a cryer, but these past few days it seems like that's all it is I do.  I used to take Levora (took it for over 2 years) and never had any problems.  Has anybody else had this experience with YAZ?  Does it go away or at least get any better?

I'm on YAZ and have been  for almost a year. Some months I'm waterworks central even up to a week before my period other months nada. For me the benefits have outweighed the tears  just give your family and friends a disclaimer that you may be a trainwreck!

I've been on and off yasmin, and I just started taking it again.  It's only my second month "back" on it, but both months, the last couple of days before the placebo, I suddenly feel terrible!  I've gotten all sad and depressed and annoyed and frustrated and it's just a pain.  But it only lasts those one or two days, so I don't know.  I don't really remember it having that effect on me when I was taking it last year, but who knows...maybe I just didn't notice it (I was having a tough 1st year at college), or I just don't remember, or something.  But hang in there!  You'll likely be feeling fine again in a day or so.  :)  Just remind yourself that it is, indeed, just thanks to the birth control.

Funny, I was on Sprintec (which is like ortho cyclen but genaric) for a month, and they switched me to Yaz, and I feel MUCH better.  I was feeling so sick every day (nausea, digestive-type sick).  This is my first month on Yaz (second month total on the pill), and I feel fine.  I've got another week or so before the blanks.  Hopefully everything will still be smooth sailing.  Different pills have different types and amounts of hormones, so it could just be that interacting with you.  Good luck, and I hope it lets up for you. :)  In another few days, I could be all sobby and reposting, but hopefully not.

I took Yasmin about 6 years ago in high school, and it REALLY messed me up. I would sob over the most bizarre things throughout the entire 7 months I was on it. I moved on to Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo and had a similar experience...

Right now I'm on NuvaRing, and I absolutely love it. Keeps my period regulated, minimizes cramps, doesn't mess with my emotions or sex drive, and of course, keeps my baby-free. Good luck finding the birth control that's right for you!

But i thought YAZ was supposed to control PMS?

I am going to the gyno on Monday and was planning to ask to switching to YAZ but now i definitely will not!

I started yaz about 4 months ago because I was on ortho tricyclen lo, which was trash. But I have always been pretty cool on my periods. Not moody, not a cryer, or anything. I did have acne, so I decided to try yaz, omg, not only did I break out horribly the week before my period, I became an emotional train wreck. Crying for nothing. All the time. The only thing I can say is that I only have 1 day periods now vs my regular 5 day. (grr!) Thats pretty much all its good for lol

Hi there!

I posted this on another post about Yaz but I wanted to share my experience with you...  to make a long story short... I stopped taking Yaz and am going back on Ortho Tricyclen lo

I had posted my Yaz experience before I saw this thread. Below is what I said in that post.. just sharing...

HI All,

I went on Yaz about 2 1/2 months ago.

For the first four weeks.... no problems. I wasn't a moody pain in the butt and I felt ok.  I noticed a little weight gain but I thought I was just not eating right.

By the Sixth week I stepped on the scale and found that I had put on 10 pounds.

I went back on my nutrition plan and began walking. I went from 2200 calories a day to 1400 -1500 calories a day. I did this for a month...I lost no weight at all.

I did a little research and found several forums where women were talking about how they gained weight and couldn't take it off... or they maintained their weight but no matter how much they exercised or ate right they couldn't take weight off.  I would say 80% of them lost weight once they came off Yaz. Many in the first month off.

This is my first week off of Yaz and I must say I am already starting to feel better. I'm not tired all the time and to see the number of times I'm going to the bathroom you would think I took a diaretic.

I know Yaz works great for some people... but it definately didn't cut it for me.. but it definately didn't for me. I'm going back to Ortho Tri Cyclen.  I just wanted to share my experience so that if there is someone else out there going thru this.. know that you are not alone and that if you have these symptoms you need to see your doctor and most likely change the pill you are taking.

Some meds work great for some people.. some don't..

Ive been on yaz for over a year and before then, it was very very difficult for me to cry. Now, i 3-4 times a week. I cried in Wall-E.

I think when I go off to college I might have to go off it because Im not sure I can handle it much more, sometimes i feel like the world is ending and ive gone off the deep end into a crying fit.

Is anyone else having a problem with uncontrollable behavior the week before your period?

This is the week before my period and I'm binging like crazy. I also have this dry patch of skin on my arm that I've been lotioning and consciously trying not to scratch. But this week, I can't keep from scratching. It's like my willpower is gone the week before my period, with food and with anything else. I'm pretty sure I felt like this last month.

Anyone else?

theluckiest- I am UNCONTROLLABLE the week before my period. In everything.. I'm moody, snippy, binging, no will power, no motivation, I'm lethargic and tired and bloated and my back aches and I break out and my skin gets dry and cuts don't heal. It's horrible. I was on ortho tricyclen lo for a year and went off 'cause I couldn't pay for it and as soon as my periods became regular again (I got 3 periods in 6 months time.. whoops!) I was miserable the week before my period..
I gained weight while I was on it but it was purely my poor eating habits and lack of exercise. The bc probably opened the flood gates though.
Needless to say I went to the gyno and I'm on ortho again... I would highly reccommend it to anyone having problems on YAZ but the thing is that no two women react the same to hormones.. everyone is different. I have nothing bad to say about orthotricyclenlo
So don't shy away from switching bc's until you find the one that's right for you!

these are side effects, which means it might not be the pill for you.  you haev to go thru a bunch sometimes to find the one that works for you.  i was on diane the last 8 months and gained 20 pounds so i stopped because it's not nomrla to gain that much on the pill (plus i was emotional, depressed, the works).  i stopped and made an appointment with my doctor and she gave me YAZ.  we`ll see how ti goes.  but i was also on alesse once and i was so SICK for 3 months (that's how long i was on it) in the female way, so i had to go off it.  the being sick made me lose like 15 pounds, but the being sick was not worth it.  so yeah, just tell your MD u wanna try another pill.

Give it another month or two if you can bear to.  I've been on BCP's twice (pre baby and then again 7 years post baby).  Two different kinds and both had that effect on me the first month.  THe 2nd month was better, the 3rd better, and by the 4th, no emotional or crying issues at all.  But, those first few months, I would be driving down the street and start crying for no reason what so ever.

I've been on Yaz for 5 weeks now. I am CRAZY. At first my friends and family thought I was depressed due to the holidays, but OH NO - we all learned that I've just lost my damn mind on YAZ. I'm emotional ALL the time, but the week before and week of my period were HORRIBLE. I was emotional, irritable and just a mess - I couldn't get along with anyone and everyone pissed me off.

I also had these dry patches on my legs, arms and back. I've called my doc today to look into other options. I've heard good things about NuvaRing - anyone else?

I have been on Yaz for 2 months now. I have had breakthrough bleeding each month, which means Im having 2 periods a month!!! And yes, Im an emotional wreck. I saw a man on tv with a broken umbrella & broke down crying . . ITS INSANE!!!!!! Other than that, its been good to me. Def helped with my PMDD.

Yaz and Yazmine did me no good either.

Tried both for a 4 month stretch each and basically had my period and or pre-menstrual symptoms constantly for the entire time. And I dont just mean feeling crappy, I got the whole deal, severe cramps, heavy flow, with clots (!) break out's, mood swings, tired all the time... the works. I'm not rushing to try any other versions after those experiences!

ETA: these pill are touted as the "cure all" for PMDD but they do not work for everyone.

Wow! AT least I'm not the only one who couldn't stand these pills!!

I took them for 2 months and was horribly emotional, which triggered uncontrollable cravings,,,for alcohol.. it was so weird I wanted beer at 8am.

I cried all the time, had headaches, and weightgain(that might have been from the cravings)

Well I can see the OP posted this nearly a year ago and so probably came to a solution of her own. Thought I'd put in my two cents-

Been on Yas for nearly 3 years. At first it was fine, my periods were lighter and my mood actually felt stabilised. But for about the past year, I cry and feel extremely depressed the week before my period, and angry at everyone and general paranoia.  This goes away as soon as my period starts. It's definitely the pills. I'm considering trying a different type because I'm fed up of feeling like crap for a week, and feeling like the world's going to end. But say I do get prescribed a different batch, will my body get messed up from the change in pill?? I don't want to put it through anything that could harm it.

Hi Everyone-  My boyfriend has been the #1 person that has been affected by me taking yaz.  about 1 or 2 weeks before my period i start pmsing.  Getting irritated by the smallest things.  It is insane how a birth control pill can do this to you - it completly changes my hormonal balance and makes me extremely sensitive.  I get depressed, sensitive, bothered by the smallest things, I get even more insecure, start over analyzing things.  I am going to call my gyno tomorrow and see if there is any other option for me.  I used to take ortho and it made me nauseas and ortho lo did the same and they both made me gain weight.  Yaz has not really made me gain weight but i'm psycho chick when i pms.  lol.  Super bad.  Well girls i am taking a step towards sanity by making the very important call tomorrow to hopefully change things.

I am halfway through my second pack of yaz.  I have been bleeding for 2 weeks!  I've gained weight and I'm an emotional wreck!  My poor boyfriend!  We can't do anything romantic and I cry at the drop of a hat!  I have no idea what to do.  Should I finish the pack and switch to a new birth control.  Should I stop the pack halfway through?  Anyone else out there had similar experiences?
