WIll it make me gain weight? I am on it for a week and feel bloated, I am eating about 1400-1500 and active I weigh 126 on average.
Any advice?
Reason: Moved from WL to Health & Support
Ive been on Yaz for about 5 months. It took until the 2nd month to notice that I was eating more but I hadn't gained any weight. I noticed I do have some cravings but its nothing like when I was on Estrostep. Now that stuff will make you crazy. Would you believe I would have days where I ate, and ate, and ate and was never full and then some days I could hardly eat cereal for breakfast without feeling stuffed. It also had some crazy mood swings, I actually cried when they didn't have shoes in my size in the mall. Talk about crazy.
Overall I think Yaz does make me feel better than other birth controls. I still get weepy and cry for no reason sometimes but everything else is ok. The only complaint I have is a lack of sex drive. I know it doesn't really apply on this site, but has anyone else had any sexual side effects with this? I don't want to get too graphic, but has anyone else not been able to have an orgasm? I dont know if I was just adjusting to the pill or what, but it was only last week that I had one in almost 5 months!!
Anyway, I think as long as you aren't downing Snickers every day you're weight should stay the same on Yaz.
Oh wow, this is weird to say, but I'm happy to hear that others have gained weight and stopped wanting to have sex as a result of the pill. I thought it was just me, and didn't even blame the pill for the sex thing, I just figured it was the stress of planning a wedding and such.
ANy advice.
I have been on Yaz for 5 months now, & I'm not sure about the weight gain. YES, I have gained weight in the past 5 months, but it is b/c I am a TERRIBLE eater! I overeat on sweet stuff, & don't eat regular food, so the weight gain is my own fault.
As a whole - I LOVE Yaz!!! I have noticed that I crave sweet stuff allllll the time though!!! I am mostly on it for acne, & I LOVE what it has done for my skin, so there is NO way I'd go off of it.
I was on Ortho Tri-Cyclen before this pill (over 2 years ago), & it made me SOOOO crabby & NO sex drive whatsoever!!! Yaz has not decreased my sex drive - THANK THE LORD!!!
I think the only way a pill makes you gain weight is water weight, or it increases your appetite, so therefore, you eat more! But if you are watching what you eat, you shouldn't have this problem!
Try taking Chromium Picolinate every morning. It helps to decrease appetite & cravings! ![]()

I took yasmin for a while, and had to stop because it was giving me high blood pressure, plus I still got horrible cramps. I'm on depo now, but might switch to something else so I can have a kid within the next two years. I think every type of oral or injected contraception can cause some weight gain, its almost unavoidable when hormones are involved, it just means we have to work a little harder, or find another means. I might look into a low-dose pill, hopefully it won't give me problems.
***BE CAREFUL ON DEPO***
I was told there was a possibility of gaining up to 10 lbs a year on depo and kind of shrugged it off. 3 years later low and behold I had gained 30 pounds. Didn't really change any eating habits and still worked out regularly. It just snuck up but I would never recommend it to anyone....even though it is so easy and worry free. It's not worth it.
I have only been on YAZ for about 2 1/2 months and I actually have gained weight....but I'm pretty positive it's due to the riduculous cravings that I've had ever since I've been on the pill, and my inability to always say "no." I normally don't eat chips/pretzels, anything salty like that really and as soon as I got on Yaz, all of a sudden, that's all I wanted to eat. It was crazy. And also, my boobs have gotten a LOT bigger. I have gone up a full cup size. I've also experienced break-thru bleeding so I'm thinking I'm going to get off of it. Overall Yaz has been a pretty bad experience for me.
Even if Yasmin and Yaz are different pills, they contain almost the same hormones: Yasmin contains 3 mg drospirenone and 30 mcg ethinylestradiol per tablet, and Yaz contains 3 mg drospirenone and 20 mcg ethinylestradiol per tablet. I have a friend who took Yasmin and she had a severe problem with weight gain. I took a different pill, I don't even remember it's name. I didn't gain weight, but I had mood swings and no sex drive. I also switched to Ladycomp www.ladycomputer.com and I'm still using it. It didn't reduce my weight... but at least I know it is not responsible for my overweight! I would never take hormones again.
Yeah Yaz and Yasmin are completely different pills yet very similar. The difference is that Yaz is the lower dosage hormone version of Yasmin. I took Yasmin for 5 years and didn't notice any severe symptoms until about a year ago after I had just started dating my [now] boyfriend of over a year (not sure if that has anything to do with it or not). But I started experiencing incredible HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE and thus leading to HORRIBLE MOOD SWINGS. I mean horrible. I decided about 3 months ago to make the switch to Yaz and I LOVE it. The only downside for me is that I have gained 8 pounds after I started taking it! I'm only 5'1" so 8 pounds is a LOT for someone as small as me! Hopefully this is temporary as my body is still getting used to it. Plus, everyone's bodies react differently. But everything else is all good news for me! No high blood pressure, mood swings are barely there at all! PLUS my boobs have also gained almost a cup size, although I'm not sure how long that will last :(. All in all, I am LOVING Yaz so far! Yasmin users BEWARE. Just about every single person I know who used Yasmin have also experience severe high blood pressure just as I have.
On the go andin the know.
