Yaz Birth Control Pill
I'm seventeen, and i would like to go on birth control for several reasons. I've had moderate to severe acne for years, i've tried everything, and nothing works. I also have a very eratic period. I won't get it for months at a time, and then there's a long stretch when i do get it, but the date continuously changes, so i never know when to expect it. I'm actually about ten days late from last month and i still haven't gotten it. so i'm hoping BC will help regulate things.
I also have a few questions. I just move to Davis Monthan AFB a few months ago, and i've been trying to get in contact with the hospital to find out a few things before i make an appointment, but i haven't been able to get a hold of anyone.
I want to know if, since i'm not sexually active, do i really need a pap and pelvic exam to get a prescription? i know several people who haven't, but if i assume it will be just my luck that i'll be the exception.
I also know several people who take Yaz, and they said they liked it, but i want a broader oppinion. To anyone who's taken it, how well did it work for you?
Did it help clear up your skin?
Does it help you stay regular?
Did it make you gain weight?
Does it really make your breasts grow?
Hii,
i was also 17 (im now 19) when i went on the pill. I was initially on Monofeme and then got changed to levlen. (im from Australia so other countries may not have the same brands)
So answer your questions,
Yes it did help clear up my skin, i did have a slight skin condition on my arms, however these have pretty much cleared up and i rarely break out on my face.
Yes it does help to stay regular, you know exactly when your period is going to come. Its actually very handy!
I did gain weight initially, about 5kg.
Hmm, and about breasts growing? No i dont think so. I think my boobs getting bigger was just age.
When i went to my doctor and asked about going on the pill, i didnt have to get a pap or exam. She just asked why and if i was sure and yes it was all good. I got my prescription then and there.
Hope this helps!
I'm 15, and about 4 or 5 months ago, I went on Seasonique. It was mainly because I was sexually active, but also because I have anorexia and had never gotten a period. When I went to the doctor, they took my weight/height, did a breast exam, and then did a pelvic exam/pap smear. It really wasn't that bad. Yes, it felt really weird and was uncomfortable, but it only lasted a few minutes and then it was over. I really wouldn't worry too much about it, everyone gets (or should get) them at around your age.
I've never really had too many skin issues, but I haven't had any acne really since I've been on the pill.
Seasonique works so that you only get your period 4x a year (every 3 months). So i've only had 1 period so far, and it was very light and only lasted 3-4 days.
I didn't gain any weight on the pill.
Sadly, no, it doesn't make your breasts grow. I still can't even fit into a 32A lol.
It's not the whole modesty thing that gets me, it's just that I had a creep doctor a couple years ago, and the idea just kinda grosses me out now.
Hi! I'm 23 and have been on BC for 3 years. I had an erratic period too. I went with my mom to her gynocologist and he (a nice he doctor, very professional) discovered that I had polycysitic ovary syndrome (my eggs went to leave, couldn't, the turned into cysts). That was 5 years ago. Originally I took estrogen pills every 3 months, but it was hard to remeber to take them (2 pills/day for 10 days every three months). I switched to Yaz 3 years ago and here are answers to your questions:
1. I never had bad acne so if it did help at all I couldn't tell.
2. Yes I was regular. My period would usually start on the Fri. of the placebo week and end the next week. My flow was always heavy before so Fri Sat were moderate, Sun Mon Tues were heavy, and Wed Thurs Fri were light. --->Yaz claims to help with PMDD symptoms and it didn't really for me. With my erratic periods I never got cramps, but with Yaz I did. They got progressively more painful the longer I took it.
3. I was always overweight, but I don't think it made me gain weight.
4. I don't think it made my breasts grow. I started at 36D and stayed there.
I switched to Seasonique last year. The answers to all your questions are the same. I think though that my periods are heavier on Seasonique and the cramps are worse.
I'm 20 and I've been on Loestrin24Fe for about 8 months now. I never had a regular period before taking birth control for some reason, I only had it maybe 5 times since turning 17. (I've never been underweight, had an ultrasound done but still have no idea what was wrong) I did not need any sort of exam before getting the prescription, just a doctor's appointment.
1) My skin was clear before going on BC because I took Acutane three years ago, so I'm not sure if it clears up skin.
2) Before going on BC, I got my period maybe once or twice a year. I now get it at about the same time every month for 3 days.
3) I was losing weight before starting BC, and I stopped losing weight once I began it. I'm not sure if it's due to the BC or because I am at a weight that is good for my body or hit a plateau though!
4) I went from a 34B to a 34D.
I tried Yaz a year ago but it made me bleed for a month straight so I stopped it. One brand might not work the same for you as it does for others!
I'm on Yasmin and have been since the beginning of the year. I was on Dianne for a while but didn't like it. Yasmin is heaps better for me.
1) My skin hasn't improved.
2)Yep, I'm regular as. I usually skip my period and have it once every 3 months or so, and havent had any complications.
3) I didn't gain any weight from it.
4) Yes. My boobs are huge! Well not really, but I was always super flat chested and now I'm a C-cup at least! It's been the best side effect by far. I wish my skin would clear up though...
Just remember most people have to take several pills before they find the one that's right for them. Good luck!
Military brat? Me too. I was on BC for 13 years up until recently when I stopped due to health issues. I was 17 when i first started taking them and I was not sexually active. I would get my period twice a month, or it would skip a month. I would also get sick as in a fever, throw up, and bad cramps. My flow was super heavy and I'd have it for like 8 or 9 days. I don't remember the brand I was taking. But I know the last few years it was Yaz.
It did clear my skin.
It did make me regular, my flow less heavy, and fewer days.
I didn't gain any weight from taking it.
It did not make my breasts grow any bigger.
I would suggest making an appointment and going. From there they would be able to tell you what you need to know. Or are you trying to do this with out your parents finding out?
I love this pill -
Skin has stayed about the same (not bad, not perfect)
SUPER regular and cramps are very manageable if they come at all (used to have debilitating cramps)
Didn't gain any weight (and was able to lose some)
My breasts are bigger - bras that were loose fitting are now filled up. Love it
At 17 you really should start getting a regular pap every year or two regardless of the pill or not.
I was about your age when they first found A-typical cells and if they hadn't lasered them off it could have very well developed into cancer.
I was on Diane at 16 (am 22 now), but stopped using it pretty shortly since I was getting terrible migraines with every period.
My skin improved, my breasts grew (of course not permanently :)) and I think I noticed more cellulite at the time, but if it was because of the pill or other factors, I couldn't tell.
My period was definitely lighter, which was a huge plus, since my blood doesn't coagulate well.
I don't know if you need an exam, you'd probably have to ask the doctor that.
I'm 26 and took Yaz for one month (had to get off for other health reasons).
It was amazing to my skin. I had been on the Nuva Ring before which just made my acne worse, and it just instantly cleared up on Yaz. I miss that.
I had a bit of spotting near the end of the month, but my body was doing that insanely for several months around then, so I don't think it was specifically the Yaz which caused it.
I did gain some weight with it, but I had the side effect that every two hours I'd suddenly have a blood sugar drop like I was starving myself. So I ate more to counteract that, and gained weight.
Nope, all HBC has done nothing to the size of my breasts. But it can make them hurt so bad (Yaz did this the worse). If you experience this, try taking Evening Primose Oil suppliments. They're seriously amazing for breast pain.
hi.i am 28 years old. i recently satrted taking the yaz birth control after i had been off of birth control completly for 5 years. without any birth control i was getting a few breakouts right before periods , very eratic periods in which they were always like 3 or 4 days long then the next month 5 or 6 days long and then they never started at the same time. i had horrible migraine headaches and the cramps were not that bad. i also had a really small breast size. and they would sagg like i was eighty years old.
well, i have been on yaz for going on 3 months now. at first the mood swings were horrible. i also slept constantly. i was exhausted all the time. i would wake up at 11:00 a.m. watch tv for 2 hours eat and then take a nap for 3 hours. then i'd get up and do some housework. my boyfriend noticed i was realy moody and didnt want to be bothered with him touching me at all or even having sex for like the 1st 3 weeks of starting it. my boobs were sore and my shirt could not touch my nipples cause it would hurt so bad. alot of nights i had to take off my shirt cause my boobs were busting out so much.
well, now that the pills are in my system and i have been taking them for a while, i notice that the moods swings have calmed down a bit, im not as tired anymore buti still do take a nap when i dont have to work, but my boobs a still pretty big. the headaches are still there but i notice it helps alot cause i feel when im getting a migraine before it hits me so i pop 3 excedrine migraine pills and it helps to prevent me having a horrible day cause of a migraine. i was an a cup size and now i absolutly have to go buy me some new bras now cause im in a size c now i believe. all my old b size and a size bras just cover up my nipple or just half of my boobs.my belly is a little bigger now also but i think i can control that with some excersize really. i hope that this has helped you .
thank you

I started taking Yaz right after I turned 17 and I took it until a little after I turned 18. I'm now on the birth control shot.
It did help clear up my skin.
I did stay very regular. In fact, I sort of cheated and skipped periods by not taking the placebos or whatever they're called.
I actually did gain a bit of weight when I started it.
My boobs did not grow.
Pap smears aren't just for sexually active individuals. Anyone can get cancer at any age. Pelvic exam checks to make sure everything feels healthy inside.
With that said I was on Yasmin at 16, it did clear up my pimples, but I still had horrible periods (I became anemic...). I did get my period regularly for about 5-6 days, but I have endometriosis so it probably wasn't best for me. Any weight I gained was from bad eating habits. I don't know about the breast growth, but I do remember being a C once and I'm DD now so... I dunno!
