I have a question: Today I just got a prescription for YAZ since I need birth control because I really can't trust only a condom or I freak out. But is YAZ worth taking? Do you gain weight on it? I can't afford to gain weight right now....
I have been on Yaz for over two years and the only reason I gained weight was eating too much, not from the pill.
Keep in mind that every woman is different, so you may react differently than me. When I first started taking it, I didn't notice much except for breast tenderness. It hurt to wear a bra pretty much. I also notice that my mood fluctuates about as much as when I'm not on the pill. BUT it cleared up my acne, which makes it worthwhile to me.
Good luck!
I have been on Yaz for over two years as well, and within the first month of taking it I gained almost 10 lbs. Had I known this would I happen, I might have tried to counteract it, but I was thinner then anyways. I also increased a full cup-size, so maybe that weight all went there! I'm sure it's different for every person- in the pamphlet that comes with it it says weight gain and weight loss can be side effects, along with alot of other scary things :/
My sister took Yaz. She gained weight, but only because the pill increased her appetite and she decided not to say no to the cravings.
She said after a month or two, the cravings stopped though. I suppose every body is different, but most of the people I know who are on it have not just spontaneously gained weight. It was because they ate more.
Every drug has a side effect and it's going to differ from person to person. That's all I can really say to this.
But with any birth control, When is it "safe" to have sex in order to prevent pregnancy? As in how long should you take the pills? for 1 month ?

My sis and I were both on it. She was on it for irregular periods. I still am on it, I started simply for the birth control, but it also does wonders for my period, which has always been awful.
My sister gained weight like crazy on it and I didn't gain anything. But, as it turns out, my sister has an ovarian disorder which probably had more to do with the weight gain then the yaz.
When I first started I did feel a bit hungrier, but that went away as my body got used to it. It comes with a little book that tells you everything about when you can start having sex. The booklet talks about two different starting methods:
"Day 1 start: Take the first light pink "active" pill of the pack during the first 24 hours of your period. You will not need to use a back-up method of birth control, since you are starting the Pill at the beginning of your period.
Sunday Start: 1. Take the first light pink "active" pill of the first pack on the Sunday after your period starts, even if you are still bleeding. If your period begins on Sunday, start the pack that same day.
2. Use another method of birth control (such as condoms or spermicides) as a back-up method if you have sex anytime from the sunday you start your first pack until the next sunday (7 days)"
Don't worry, everything is in the book. Just be sure to take it the same time every day. There are instructions for if you miss a pill, but its best not to. I set an alarm on my cell phone to remind me.
Okay so lets see if I understood correctly. So let's say I want to use YAZ as my only birth control method within only 2 weeks of taking the pills (first time) meaning 14 pills---- will this prevent pregnancy still even though I only took the pills for 14 days after my period? It works that fast?
That's what it says in the packet, but my doctor told me to wait at least one cycle, until I started my next pack.
You should probably have these questions answered by a doctor though.
Thank you!
i don't know how relevant this is but i've just stopped taking yasmin after three months, and i've heard that yasmin and yaz are much the same pill? don't quote me on that though, because it's only something that i've heard.. so it may not be 100% true.
anyway, yasmin was complete and utter hell for me. when i first started taking it, it made me feel sick all the time and horrendously hungry. i was wary of gaining weight, so i was extremely careful with my food (probably moreso than usual!) but i still managed to gain around 5lbs or so.
at first i thought it was just my body adapting to it, but then i started to get horrible headaches around the time that my period was due. i felt tired all the time, and i got frequent chestpains too. my legs always felt heavy, and i often got cramp in them too. as well as the physical side effects, it turned me into a bit of a sucidal maniac and i felt depressed/anxious all the time. i have struggled with emotional issues in the past so that may be a factor, but yasmin made it much worse as well as giving me overwhelming panic that i'd never experienced before.
so yeah, my overall experience was NOT GOOD. i did wonder what the hell was up with me for ages, and then i eventually googled yasmin and found hundreds of other people reporting the same symptoms. i'm off it now, and all i'd say is be careful. obviously everyone reacts differently, and i've heard of plenty of people with positive experiences (weight loss/lighter periods/better skin) but sadly it didn't work for me!
after about 7 days of taking the pill at the same time everyday is when it starts to prevent pregnancy
One more question...
Okay bad luck....I started my period today....Monday does that mean I have to wait until sunday to take the 1st pill or can I start now?
*I know you guys aren't doctors...But If you have experience then thats enough for me so yeap don't start reprimanding me =D
Read the mini pamphlet that comes with each pack of pills.
Or read the website: http://www.yaz-us.com/front?cref=6.
I read the packet right now but iam so confused and I cant call my Docotr because it's sunday.....But my period started barely last sunday (there was barely a period)....Monday is when it really started (6 days ago monday) so now im confused do I take the pill today (on sunday) and then 2 weeks later when i have sex with no consdom.....Will this still prevent pregnancy?
**Lets say I just took the pill on any random day not paying attention to the fact of my period ending or beggining will the pill still prevent pregnancy if i have sex 2 weeks later with only the pill as a control?
So should I take the 1st active pill today(sunday) if my period began Monday? And (graphic) If I have sex in 2 weeks with no condom will this still prevent pregnancy?
Thank you for you help.
take your first active pill sunday. I always take my first pill the sunday after my period starts. Thats what I was told by my doctor also. Im on ortho tri-cyclen lo diff. pill but same concept. Dont be stupid and have sex w.o a condom. Knowing luck you'll b that 1-3% that gets pregnant. Wait till after your first cycle to try w.o condoms. AND DONT LET HIM FINISH IN YOU AT ALL! that will deff increase your chances of getting prego and I will just say you deserve it if your being dumb. If your under age please dear god keep using condoms even after your first cyclen. You dont want to be pregnant and still in high school.
I thought you are "protected" after a week on the pill...And I was planning to have sex without a condom Im 19 now...But thank god I read your message because I think I just changed my mind
wait so now im confused....YAZ is a form of birth control....yet I still have to use an added birth control....then what is the point of YAZ? Soo lets say I have sexwith a condom and YAZ....this is much much safer than only a condom correct?
Good your at least out of high school. yes condoms + BC is much safer together. deff make him pull out if your not going to use a condom, that is where alot the 1-3% get pregnant. I just know some friends that have gotten pregnant when on the pill especially at the beginning. Deff wait till 1 cycle then you can go wild just dont forget to take your pill on time. Ive been have sex w. no condoms for 4 yrs *knock on wood* and have yet to get pregnant.(been with the same person btw)
Ya Id rather be really really really safe than reallllllllly sorry especially because im going to the military in 4 months so I cant take any chances.....But yeap I think ill take your advice for now with waiting for 1 full cycle I just really hope that BC+Condom is like 99.9% (Or just really effective) effective against pregnancy. By the way thats really cool that you're with the same person for 4 years so am I thats why I also need to be supercareful
And your advice really helped---Thanks! =D
No problem. yea you deff dont want to get pregnant. Thats good that you have been in a long term relationship. That was one of my questions I was going to ask you. Good luck and be safe when you go into the military.
