Yaz & Terrible Social Anxieties

Hey everyone,

So I was wondering if anyone else out there can relate to this...but I started out on Yaz Birth Control about a month ago (i just stopped it two days ago for reasons I'll detail) and I got some awful psychological side effects off of it...for one thing I became severely severely depressed/irritable (I would get snappy/fits of RAGE), and also it caused me a normally super-social love to have fun type to become extremely socially withdrawn/anxious and go to excruciating lengths to avoid social interaction/events (in college this is so difficult...i started sitting in my closet all day/doing homework in there and going to the bathroom/showering at awkward hours when i knew i wouldn't run into people in the hallways/ i also started avoiding the dining hall and eating store bought food in my closets to avoid people)...i would also have horrible homesickness/panic attacks and it got so awful that i actually had to fly home to be with my parents this weekend because the thought of having to wait a week before coming home at the end of the semester was too anxiety-provoking. I'm feeling a little better now that I'm off Yaz but not quite normal yet...and I'm flying back to school tomorrow for the last three days of the semester to take my finals...then I'm coming home again thursday (ridiculous i know)...but I was wondering if anyone else has had adverse effects like this?

I have been on Yas for almost a year with no ill effects. I have been on various forms of birth control pills for over 10 yrs now.

Is this your first time on hormonal pills? Have you spoken with your doctor? Has anything else in your life changed to coincide with your social paranoia? Recreational drugs and stress are much more likely to cause these types of symptoms. Hormonal contraceptives are very low-dose..

I've also been on yaz for about a year, and I haven't had any bad effects. It actually made my mood better. definitely talk to your doctor for other birth controll options

Yeah from my friends on it they have had varied symptoms from terrible stuff (including hand numbness/heart palpitations) to nothing at all...I know BC varies from person to person...but no I don't do any recreational drugs/alcohol whatsoever...it turns out according to my doctors that yaz was definitely the culprit...and they said it could be that in accordance to my size the amount of estrogen i was receiving was too high of a level. and whats funny is that I was taking yaz to try and fight PMDD (not as a birth control method since i don't engage in sexual activity) and instead it caused me to have like 20x the PMDD I had before. odd.

That does seem odd, especially since Yaz is supposed to be low-hormone. But yeah, I've definitely heard of people becoming emotional wrecks because of Yaz while others are fine. I've been on it since late July and it seems to be working okay for me, but birth control is different with everyone. I hope you're able to find one that works for you!

holy crap! Im on YAZ and I know what you mean! My side effects havnt been that extreme, but I am totally not myself at all. I get so snappy and upset at the littlest things. I went off it for a bit, and maybe it wasnt long enough, because I still felt on edge a bit. but yes I think you need to try something else.  Iknow multiple people this kind of thing has happened to (which is the only way I knew to kind of pinpoint it to my BC!)
