Yes Coffee or no Coffee???
I am new to calorie count and wanting to develop a healthy eating habit. I need to lose around 70lbs. I am basing my eating around the 10 superfoods. I have weened myself off coffee. But it was about the only vice I had. I am hearing conflicting stories about coffee. Some say it is good. High in anti oxidents, caffines good for weight loss. Others say its best not to drink it. I am very happy to start drinking it again if its good for me![]()
Your comments would be appreciated!!!
Many thanks
Helen

heyaa i wanted to ask a question most people say that coffee is the reason why you have belly flab has anyon else heard this and is it true?
well true or not i drink coffee all the time and i usually get those nescafe sachets only because i hate adding milk, creamer or sugar. i think its so much more conveniant i mean i dont have to worry about how much i add and i also like it black and strong with nothing added.
why wien yourself off coffee??
it contains hardly any calories
in my opinion its pointless to put yourself under extra stress
just add less sugar and less milk every time your drink it until you can handle it near black

caffeine is a stimulant.
it ups your metabolism, but this can cause strain on your heart
drink 5 cups of caffeine in a row and you'll feel like you've snorted a line of speed
(that's really bad thing to do btw, you can go into cardiac arrest, dont do it.)
I used to drink my coffee with a butt load of sugar and cream but I've switched to 1 packet of splenda instead of sugar and sugar-free flavored cream which is only 15 cals a tbsp. So my morning coffee is now only 20 cals instead of the usual 80+ cals. I only have 1 or 2 cups monday-friday. (I hardly ever make it through the 2nd cup so most of the time I just have 1 cup).
Everything in moderation, I believe, is ok.
Coffee is okay in moderation. I use to drink several cups a day, with cream and sugar... but now, I limit myself to one or two cups without sugar and a splash of light vanilla soy milk! :)
I started drinking coffee with all kinds of stuff in it, then went to black coffee and now I use sugar free creamer and splenda. The sugar free french vanilla creamer has 10 calories per serving, tastes delicious and splenda has no calories.
I have one cup a day, as I have had to cut back on caffeine from getting so many headaches. I feel as though having it in the morning gives me all day to burn it off!
You are always going to find conflicting advice about anything. I say if its the only thing you absolutely love, then drink it.
I drink about 2 cups per day and I am still losing weight. I use sugar in the raw instead of splenda or regular sugar and no cream. I also get a cup of water to drink every time I go for a cup of coffee to keep myself hydrated.
Think about why coffee is your vice. Do you need it for energy or do you like the way it tastes? If its just energy, drink it black. If it is for taste or both then indulge but don't over-indulge. Its all about balance, not deprivation.
You should not give up coffee. If you are anything like me, it really helps me take a minute to relax when I first get to work. I used to drink several cups throughout the day lacing it with sugar and cream but now I just have one in the morning, I appreciate it more I think.
Also... Splenda is horrible. It gives me awful headaches and I just don't think it's good for you in general. Sugar in small quantities is not bad for you. I use natural cane sugar, or sugar-in-the-raw or brown sugar. The bleached refined sugar...I would not recommend.
I use 2 tablespoons of half and half and 2 packets of sugar in the raw and my one coffe is equal to 100 cals give or take.
It's worth it, good luck!
Don't give up coffee if you enjoy it. I start every day with a skim milk cappucino and usually have 1 or 2 skim cappucinos each morning and an espresso (short black) or two each evening.
If it wasn't for my cappucinos I wouldn't get nearly enough calcium in my diet. I would probably also struggle to get out of bed and onto my exercise bike so in my case coffee is definitely a weight loss tool!![]()
I agree with Stephanie Piro's sentiment "Behind every successful woman is a substantial amount of coffee".
Hi Helen
Having coffee is good but if you just take take coffe alone it just pumps your heart faster mix it up with some skimmed milk which adds up to your nutrition.. Have a cup or two should be fine.. but don't have too much.. Coffe keeps your day active and eventually you won't worn out if you are working out.. you will kill more calories ...cheers...
Helen-
The great thing about coffee is that it fills you up! I use a little Sugar in the Raw and a little cream-people have been drinking it all over the world for centuries-it can't be a bad thing. Too much can be a problem, though-I once got a mouth full of canker sores from all of the acid in it. One or two cups a day is probably best.
Maybe balance out your coffee intake with tea?
And I'm not talking bags of mediocre tea, I'm talking delicious, possibly caffeinated (or not) loose-leaf tea. Some of the best I'd suggest are green - genmaicha specifically, which has toasted rice, medium caffeine and a delicious nutty taste, satisfying in a way very similar to coffee. Green tea is said to boost the metabolism.
Oolong tea is supposed to help burn fat, so that one (similar in taste to green, apparently kind of a halfway mix between black and green) could be beneficial for drinking.
Lastly, red aka rooibos aka red bush tea is naturally slightly sweet and excellent with some milk (or almond milk!), a touch of honey and a dusting of cinnamon and nutmeg (which are said to help blood pressure). It is said to have 5 times the antioxidants of green tea, is overall amazing for you (it keeps pregnant mothers in South Africa, its country of origin, healthy to full-term and is given to babies in formula down there), and is caffeine-free so it's great for the afternoon.
1.5 ounces of loose-leaf tea is equal to about 20-24 cups, all of which can be steeped twice. Buy a French Press for cheap secondhand or for like $10 at Ikea to steep them and go to any tea store or Asian market to ask. They even sell thermoses that have the press inside so you can have loose-leaf to go. Good luck!
Coffee....
makes you tired
gives you bad teeth and skin
yeah. I love it but I can live without it. So why bother?
I agreee with gi-jane... if you enjoy it why not have it in moderation
of course moderation is the key to most diets, never restrict a diet from anything-all psychological-if you can not have it-you want it
having a cup of coffee is actually good for you...my boyfriend who is obsessed with working out always has black coffee..it burns fat apparently and gives you a boost...but if you dont enjoy it black..i know i dont..try to get non fat milk or even whats really good is soy milk and put a splenda in there..stay away from the cream and sugar! and dont have 6 cups because then youll probably have some serious heart palpatations haha..
i drink two-three cups of coffee in the morning one to get my day started i have to be at work at 8 am...but i do notice if i drink coffee in the morning im usually not hungry, i almost wonder if coffee is a apetite surpressant??
Unfortunately, there is very little good about coffee. Oils in the bean play havoc with one's digestive system, so even caffeine-free coffee is a devil. As for caffeine, there is growing medical evidence that this substance not only stimulates the body, but it's addictive qualities are as strong as nicotine. It is linked to dementia and Alzhiemer's disease as well as hyper-tension and heart disease. I think it's best to lay off coffee, I have even tried to eliminate cafeinated soft drinks.
Drinking black coffee stains your teeth, so add a little milk to keep ur pearly whites.
