OK, I've seen threads that are a little like this before, so I know I'm not a freak for wondering. I am 5'6" and started out weighing 235ish and wore a 20 (or 18 if it was roomy). I am down to 194 and I have just moved down into a 14 for most garments.

My family and friends have noticed the weight loss, and often say that I must be getting close to being done. I tell them no, I still have at least 35 lb before I'm done. NONE of them believe me. They say that I will be WAY too thin and won't look healthy. So sometimes I tell them my current weight is 194 and that leaves me PLENTY of room to lose 35 and still be sturdy. Now I have always weighed more than people guess, but no one believes how much I weigh.

So my question for all of you is this: If you are about 5'6", what sizes have you worn at different weights? Especially 194 because that's my current weight, but also 155-160 because that is my goal weight.? Am I really that much of a freak to be wearing a size 14 at 194 lb?

Thanks for satisfying my curiosity!!!

I'm 5'6", and a total pear.

At ~175, I was wearing a 14.

At 160 I was a 12

At 145 I was an 8

130, and I'm a 6

(all those sizes based off Ann Taylor/Banana Republic.... which are KNOWN for vanity sizing)

Not at all, my weight has distributed in crazy ways since becoming a woman! I also have a large frame so most people don't believe I weigh as much as I do either.

In high school, at 17 I weighed 165-170 and wore a size 16.

I lost 25 pounds and went down to a size 10/11jrs.

I gained all the way up to 186 but that was about a year ago and my body has totally changed. I wore a snug size 14 then.

I've lost 20 pounds and still wear a size 12.

Bodies are strange. I now weigh the same as I did in HS but am two sizes smaller!

I am 5'7", and am currently 183 and a size 12. At 210-215 I was quite comfortably a size 16 bottoms, 18 tops, which was my high weight. So at your weight I might have just been able to squeeze into a 12 bottom, and a 14 or 16 top, depending on the cut.

I'm 5'6 and a slight pear shape too, my sizes were:

At 165 a 12

at 150 a 10

at 140 i'm a 4 in J Crew and Banana (sometimes a 6 depending on the cut)

Looks like we're both high muscel mass?

Good luck, sounds like you're moving in a great direction.  I love when people say you don't need to lose anymore, great motivation to reach your personal goals (after all, they are personal!)

i"m 5'4" and at 194 I wore a 16..   at 174 I just fit into 14.   At 150 I fit into 12.   So I guess it really depends on how the weight is distributed rather then how many lbs you are.

i only buy american eagle jeans, they seem to fit me the best with my small thighs and large stomach. i'm 194 now and wear 14's. at 150ish i was in snug 8's/10. hope that helps

Wow, thanks for the fast replies. It looks like a person's weight to size ratio is completely spread across the board.

I am exercising a lot so I hope that I'm losing mostly fat. Its just so weird, because my goal weight is actually still too high if you go by BMI, but I know I won't want to get much smaller than that. I like having some meat on my bones.

Keep your sizes/weights coming ladies! I want as many comparisons as I can get!!

I'm 5'6" and at my high of 235, I wore a 20. Now I'm 222 and wearing 18 mostly. At 205 I wore 16, 190-195 I think was 14, 175 was 12, and at 160 I wore a 10. At 140 I'm an 8, and I haven't been below that since I was about 15.

I have been told that I look like I weigh less than I do, especially when I'm at a lower (for me) weight. I also think I need to start shopping at Banana Republic for those days that I just want to wear a lower number ;)

I'm 5'6.5" and 177.  I currently wear 12s or 14s.  I'm very much an apple shape. So, while the waist is snug in 12s and 14s, the rest of the pant is loose.  It's very annoying =/

I'm 5'6". At my top weight of 224 lbs, I wore size 38 MEN'S jeans (wide leg, of course). I estimate that to be about a size 18 in women's pants.

When I was on hiatus from the gym/weight loss, I was about 180-185 lbs and I wore size 14.

Right now, I'm 165 lbs and I'm annoyingly in between size 10 & 12 pants.

I just wanted to chime in and say "thats family for ya". When I hit 190 my mom and a lot of people around me called me 'skinny mini' and started to make comments how I dont need to lose any more weight, just tone up some.

Pshh. 190 pounds was not healthy. I told them i wanted to lose 50 more and they thought I was absolutely nuts. Well after losing 175 pounds total, now I get to be "too thin" to them. WHATEVER. You can't win em all. Just do what you feel is right for your body. Don't listen to the compliments because you'll never be able to please everyone.

Hang in there! And congrats on the weightloss :)

I can totally relate to family not believing how much you have to lose. I have lost 40 lbs and have another 40 or 45 lbs to lose. Everyone is telling me that I dont need to lose anymore and that 40 lbs is way to much. Are you kidding me?? Im 5'2 and 185 lbs. Losing 40 lbs will still put me 15 lbs above a healthy weight for my height. While it is great that they think I look good now and Im sure that they are trying to be nice, it is so frustrating. I also dont like talking about actual numbers with them either because I only tell me weight on CC, so I hate these conversations!

ok i feel like the strangest one here now after reading all this

....when i was only 12yrs old i weighed 141lbs....and every year after returning from summer vacation i weight 10lbs extra..... at 21 yrs of age i was 176lbs..... and strangely i could never fit in size 14 i always needed ATLEAST SIZE 16 OR 18 or maybe in some shops even size 20....... ppl and shop keepers wouldnt believe me that i weighed that much or that im size 18..... they`d say im size 14 the most but nope , the button would refuse to close at 14...(oh and im talking about uk shopping ...bhs or marks)

so i cant believe that at 235lbs u wore 16 or 18........ im feeling all conscoius now.... am i oddly shaped?..... my measurement is ..34- 28- 38...... and now i manage to fit into size 12 or 14 from some shops...at many im still wearing XL

dear singingfatlady..... i think we`re sailing in the same boat!!!...

5'5.5"

started at 173 in a size 12

160 lbs got me into a size 10

now 147 getting into some 8's and even a bridesmaids dress that was a 6!

People never believe my weight when I tell them either. I think that so many people lie about their weight that it's hard to tell who weighs what anymore!

man, so unfair. lol. i am 5ft and in a size 14 at 143lbs!

I'm 5'6" almost 30 yrs old.

Lightest weight - 95 lbs when I was 17. That was too thin. People thought I was sick. Size 7 (juniors).

Heaviest weight - 195 lbs right after I had a baby 4 yrs ago. Size 18 (woman).

Current weight - 165 lbs. I carry my weight in my butt and stomach. Size 14/16 (misses) jeans and XL shirts. I still have a stomach "flap" from the baby and need to get rid of it.

let's see...

at ~250 pounds i wore a 22

at ~170 pounds i wore a 14

at ~140-150 pounds i wear a 8 or 10, depending on the brand.

I'm only 5' 1" tall and amny people guess my weight closer to 125.  One time i stepped on the scale at my mom's house and she was like "Whoa, do you really weigh that much?" She wears the same size as me and weighs about 105.  Some times it is just your frame and your muscle and stuff that tricks people.  Though it is a cliche` I think it is good to like yourself and other people the way they are and be interested in the differnt shapes and sizes of people rather than judgemental.  I told my mom that, "yes, I do weigh that much, sometimes more if I've been going crazy on the peanut butter sandwiches."  She didn't mean any harm but she hasn't ever had a weight issue and doesn't totally understand.  I also explained to her that she was probably fatter than me proportionally because she has almost no muscle tone and I work out very hard and am in training for a powerlifting competition.

So, long message short, go find your body's happy size and rock it.   :)

I seem to have to wear larger clothes than most people on this site for a given weight. I just slid under 200lbs and I can just about wear a 16. I'm 5'6" and I carry most of my weight in my tummy.

Wow.. I have always thougt this but you guys confirmed it,  The numbers on the scale are only numbers,  I personally never tell people my weight because once I did, they said NO WAY!!! Which made me feel even worse about myself.  Use the mirror alot!  but only if you can be kind to yourself!  Sizes are really strange too.  Americas quest to make us shop!

I am short, about 5'1" or 2 and I weigh about 185ish pounds right now.  I have never worn a size larger than a 14 in pants.  In shirts I wear a medium or large, depending on what it is.  In dresses I wear a medium or large.  Maybe it is because I am short.  My husband thought that I weighed a lot less than he did.  My family doesn't believe me when I say how much weight I would like to lose.  I don't look ginormous, I have a small waist and big bust and thighs and arms.  Whatever, I just hate seeing how big I am on the scale.  It is hard getting motivation from your family when they think you look fine.  The only thing in my life I want to change is how I look- no chub.
