So, lately I've been really stressed, mainly because i'm not losing any weight and it's frustrating, and I know stress does not help when you're trying to lose weight, so I've been thinking about trying yoga.
Not only does it rid stress but it makes you more flexible, tones, and strengthens muscles, that's just an added bonus.
Does anyone else here do yoga?
Do you recommend any at home videos, or maybe something that is online?
And does anyone find it helps?
I LOVE yoga!! I've been doing it for about 4 years now, but much more intensively during the summer months. The yoga classes at my university always seem to be scheduled during labs :(
You're completely right about the power of yoga when it comes to decreasing stress, increasing flexibility, strength and balance! If you're mindful, proper yoga actually means that your core is engaged throughout your entire practice which does great things for toning the tummy and helping with balance. I know that yoga has also helped me 'quiet my mind' which helps with stress and sleep deprivation.
If you're just getting started with yoga, I would suggest doing a couple beginners classes and then work your way into Vinyasa which is a practice where your movement is synchronized with your breath. Depending on the class level, you can get a pretty good full-body muscle workout doing Vinyasa for an hour or so! I'm not sure if there are any yoga studios or gyms that offer yoga classes where you live, but if there are, you should ask and see if you could do some trial classes to see if you like it, and then you could get started off with yoga for free!
There may be some classes out in town, but I kinda live in the middle of nowhere with no transportation, there's no buses or anything. It really sucks, that's why I wanted to know if there were any at home yoga videos I could do that are really good.
I heard of yoga booty ballet, but when I watched some of it online it didn't look like much yoga to me, it was more a dance kind of thing.
I found free yoga workouts using Comcast Cable On Demand excercise tv, Less is more was a good workout, you don't have to be a subscriber, you can download the yoga group right to your computer at a low rate.

Enjoy
I found this website that lists yoga youtube videos:
I've never used a yoga DVD so I can't give you any help there.
Good luck!
I love Denise Austin's Yoga Burn DVD. It has a 20 minutes session doing vinyasa yoga. Not only do you get your heart rate going, but you get all the other benefits of yoga. Also it isn't too easy, or too hard. It works for me anyways! ^__^
Any of the Rodney Yee videos are good, and they range from beginner to very advanced (which is quite challenging, lots of arm balances.)
Although, yoga doesn't burn very many calories. If you do advanced practice (which takes lots of skill and time to build up to) it will strengthen muscles, but it won't get your HR up too much (I have worn my HRM during some of my classes.)
Yoga (flexibility) should be seen as a portion of physical fitness, next to strength training and cardio.
