I've taken classes at the gym before and its always been on the wooden floors using a mat.  I just bought some dvds and am going to be doing it at home, i was just wondering if you need to do it on a hard surface or if the carpet will do?

i'm sorry if thats a stupid question.

Carpet works just fine. I'd get a mat though. I sue my mat on the carpet. It keps you from sliding in some of the poses. On carpet you can tend to slip a little.

What DVDs did you get? I've enjoyed the Yoga Zone videos.

Just make sure your mat doesn't slip around on the carpet. If it can get a sturdy grip on the carpet then it's fine. Probably even be more comfy. =3
Carpet won't do!!!  Buy a mat, worth every cent!

I do yoga at home on carpet too.  I agree, I would get a mat.  At my class we are on the wood floor with mats and pads.  I don't have any yoga DVD's, but I try to remember what I've learned in class and go from there.

Good luck!

I bought the Rodney Yee....Power Yoga and Power Yoga - flexibilty.

i have one room that has tile, so i'll probably just use a mat on that.  Hopefully i can find a really padded one.

Thanks guys.

Well I just started doing yoga at my house, I do about an hour a day about 5 days a week and I just use a blanket folded in half, I use it as a comfort thing when I'm doing the plow and such...
