yogurt and...?

Quote  |  Reply

Okay so I am starting the south beach diet and i wanted to know what things i could mix my yogurt with. I would normally mix it with granola or fruit , but carbs and fruit are not allowed in phase 1 of the diet. I do not like flaxseed, but would like something along the lines of grape nuts cereal, or something with the same texture to mix my yogurt with. Any suggestions?

Seeds or nuts?

But doesn't yogurt have carbs?

Any diet that doesnt let you eat a certain food is usually considered a fad diet.I have never looked out southbeach, but just be careful cause fruit and the nutrients it supplies, is a necessary part of any healthy diet!

Great yogurt salad dressing, or to mix up with your favorite chopped veggies for a chopped salad.

1 cup low fat yogurt

4 tablespoons your favorite salsa

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon garlic salt

14 calories per tablespoon - compared to 140 calories for 2 tablespoons of most blue cheese dressings.

Enjoy!

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but yogurt isn't allowed in phase one.  Only in phase two (and then, only a maximum of 1.5 cups).

I think you're permitted one serving of nuts a day which is ~15 almonds, 2 Tbsps peanut butter, etc

Regardless of what phase you're in...others might like suggestions. Smile

I mix Kashi Go Lean Crunch in with my yogurt. It's high protein, high fiber cereal and it's delicious.

Sounds interesting, I love yogurt.  I'll try that when I have a "carb moment" Laughing spatch, thanks!!!

Is Wheat Germ allowed? I love that in yogurt.

Almonds are a good bet too.

How about almonds? they go great with yogurt.

actually Plain or sugar-free low-fat or fat-free yogurt is allowed on the first phase. You're probably done with the first phase by now but just for future reference I like to add cinnamon with my plain  yogurt, add some nuts and sweeteners and  it make crunchy sweet combination.
