Too much yogurt?

Quote  |  Reply

I tend to eat a lot of yogurt everyday!

For example, today I had four of those little containers (100g)

They are just such delicious treats/desserts!!

I usually eat the non-fat, sugar-free ones. I am a bit concerned about all the artificial sweeteners, but the regular ones have wayy too much sugar imo!

Does anyone else enjoy lots of yogurt??

omg yeah i LOVE yoplait light!!!  i've always loved yogurt.  i think i could eat it all day long and not get sick of it!

people keep debating about how bad artificial sweeteners are for you.  i saw something that said it makes you over eat because you crave sugar more.  but i think that's not so much an issue if you count your calories very carefully.

i think it's actually ok if you eat your yogurt.  you're getting all that calcium, which helps your bones and can help you lose more weight.  plus it's a lot better for you that grabbing a piece of cake!  and you know you're getting your 3 servings of dairy (or more lol).

personally i don't see anything wrong with eating a few yogurts a day.  but if you're really worried about the sugar, maybe cut one or two out.

oh, and a fun fiber tip: mix one cup of yogurt with 1/2 cup of fiber one cereal.  it's SOOOO good.  my doctor told me to do it to get more fiber in my diet.

or you could try greek yogurt - it's delicious! okay, it's not so great on its own, but add in some honey and fruit and oh my... plus, it's super high in protein, so that's another benefit. it might take a little getting used to, but i highly recommend it!

I have Greek yogurt at least twice a day, sometimes three. Its much better than the regular kind - higher in protein, less sugar. I add a bunch of stuff to it to increase the calories, but even when I've eaten it plain I find it quite yummy.

Which brands are the healthiest?

Which brands are the healthiest?

The one with the fewest ingredients.

i eat plain, non fat, and add fruit, wheat germ, or honey. etc. no refined sugar. somedays only a 1/3 a cup, some days 2 cups. its not the only thing in my diet, so im not worried, but i'm not dealing with the artificial sweateners.

the non fat plain yogurt took me about two weeks to get used to. prior to that i was eating flavored. i now enjoy adding my own fruits and having control over my calories alot more and now, the pre-flavored ones just aren't as good as what i concoct for myself.

I eat about 1 3/4 cups of plain nonfat yogurt, 3/4 cup of 1% cottage cheese, 1/2 cup of skim milk, and 3/4 cup of Greek yogurt every day.

Dairy is fine as long as you stick to the plain nonfat stuff - even the "light" flavors still have artifical ingredients and fake sweeteners.

I'm in LOVE with Source yogurt by Yoplait. They dont have fage yogurt in Canada. The Source yogurt has so many freakin good kinds. Pineapple/coconut/banana - that takes like pina colada to me, Apple crumble - seriously eat half the container at once and its only like 200 calories, Lemon Meringue, Raspberry Crumble, Vanilla Citrus - reminds me of orange julious, etc. I try not to eat too much fake sugar too but I can't give up this yogurt and I wonder too sometimes if it's too much.

The acid test is not so much whether you're eating 'too much yoghurt', it's whether you're eating 'enough of everything else'.  If your daily diet includes four pots of yoghurt plus plenty of different vegetables, fruits, grains, meat, fish, beans, eggs...... etc...    then you'd be getting a good balance.  On the other hand if you were simply spooning down yoghurt to the exclusion of other foods then it wouldn't be healthy.

I agree with gi-jane that you need a good balance.  But in defense of yogurt which I only have for breakfast, this subject is right up my alley!  I used to get lowfat plain yogurt but now to cut calories I get nonfat, can't really even taste the difference.  I get the big 32 oz tubs, so that I can have it everyday for breakfast.  I doctor my yogurt up with frozen or fresh fruit like blueberries 1/4 c, blackberries 1/4c, banana if you have, almost any type of fruit that you like will work, even oranges taste good.  Then I add organic honey or actually any type of honey that you personally like.  That is my breakfast every morning and I love it!  It can taste however you want it to taste because you are mixing it yourself.  But at least you will have more control over ingredients and sweeteners.    You might want to google stevia, it is another relatively new sweetener that is getting pretty good reviews.  But otherwise honey and fruit is GREAT in plain, lowfat or nonfat yogurt.

I love fresh buleberries or raspberries in my yougurt... that way I can buy fat free plain and it still tastes good (i hate plain yogurt normally) This way I get dairy and fruit all at once!!

I'm sure there is a time when you can consume too much dairy, so as long as you arent eating 4 cups, plus a bunch of milk and ice cream also during the day im sure you are fine.
