ABOUT YOGURT. I have QUESTIONS?

Is it more beneficial to eat a yogurt like Yo plus or Activia? Or would regular yogurt be better?

Which one is better? Activia or YO PLUS?

I have decided to add yogurt back into my diet. I have been comparing these 2 and cant decided which is better. I am currently eating the Yo Plus which is super yummy.

I was reading in other posts that eating yogurt may be beneficial to weightloss due to the active cultures.

Any Advice.

the active cultures in yogurt are beneficial, but most of them are destroyed in the digestion process.  They are living, after all.

If you're concerned about getting enough probiotics (that's what the cultures are called) in your diet, you should probably buy some probiotic supplements.  They are generally coated so that they can get past your stomach acid and into the intestines, where they belong.

I don't know about helping you lose weight, but it does good things for your digestion, which in turn benefits your whole body.
Personally I eat whole milk Natural, Organic yogurt because If you look on the back of Activia or Yoplait in the ingredients list I think you'll want to puke.  Gelatin, Go look up Gelatin, At least for me it makes me want to puke every time I see it in yogurt or jelly.  from the day I found out what Gelatin is I check evry ingredient.
warning - some yogurt has high fructose corn syrup, some does not, so check the ingredients.
I ate an activia sample it was icky so it's normal yogurt for me.
I've tried both the Activia and the Yo Plus.  The Activia definitely helped regulate me, and it tastes good.  Yo Plus tastes good too, but I found that it didn't help my digestive process, it made it worse.  So, I expect the results may be different for different people.

I also heard someone say that some people get bloating or stomach aches from the Activia.  I didn't have that at all.

I'd say, just give it a try.  Yogurt is basically a healthy thing, so incorporate it and see if or how it works for you.

I don't know what's in Activia or Yo Plus, but my problem with most flavored yogurts is the presence of gelatin, sugar,  or HFCS.  And IMO the flavor isn't all that good either - either the fruit is non existent and the flavor is mostly artificial with a little bit of puree so the label can claim "real fruit flavor", or the "fruit at the bottom" is syrupy stuff that's more like oversugared pie filling.

I prefer to get plain fat free yogurt, and flavor it myself.  The "probiotics" Activia and Yo Plus are probably advertising can be found in other yogurts too, just compare labels.  I personally prefer to get plain Fage 0% greek style yogurt.  It's very tart, but incredibly think and creamy, and with a little bit of sugar free maple syrup and fresh sliced strawberries, it's a wonderful treat.

I've recently found Weight Watchers yogurt at Walmart.  It's only 50 cents each and has 3 grams of fiber and no hfcs.  The amaretto cheesecake is supper yummy!
I am a yogurt JUNKIE.  I've tried all of the "special" ones- pretty much anything you can find on the dairy shelves, I've tried.  My own experience has been that any kind of yogurt, eaten on a regular basis, will aid your digestive health. At this point, I eat plain, whole, organic and stir in some berries.  That tastes best to me.  At some point, the flavored stuff started tasting artificial and gross.
I decided to read the label of the Yo PLus and it contains no HFCS...but it has Kosher Gelatin?!?! Is this the same a gelatin?
As it sounds, kosher gelatin is still bones and all those lovely things that go into making gelatin, but the animals are slaughtered according to what is dictated in order to make them in accordance with Orthodox Jewish law.
Like brightestblue I love yogurt but indeed stick to just plain yogurt and add fruits myself, today I made a yogurt shake with some vanilla soy milk, yogurt, a banana and some all bran buds, it was really yummy !!!!
Yogurts like activia and yo plus have no real clinical study material to back up their claims.  Like most food companies they often use one psuedoscientific study and base their claims upon that.  Much like companies that claim their products are heart healthy or low sodium... research is usually less than adequate to support their claims.  Not to mention the food lobby is one of the largest lobbies in Washington pumping in as much money as tobacco and pharmaceutical companies.... in general don't trust the claims on the box, read the ingredients and choose the healthiest based on that.
Every day I eat a cup of plain, lowfat organic yogurt.  I add frozen blueberries and let it sit for 10 minutes or so.  When you stir it up, it is the consistency of frozen yogurt, and it's delicious.  Adding yogurt to my diet has helped my digestion and weight loss.  I highly recommend trying it this way -- no artificial or harmful ingredients. It may take a few times for you to get used to the lack of chemicals and sweeteners, but trust me, after a while, you won't want it any other way.
I eat Kosher just by the way, Because Im Jewish.  Kosher Gelatin most of the time is (Okay get ready to puke) the kosher part is from most likely....Tuna Fish, Or kosher Fish.
I am in love with Nancy's non-fat blueberry yogurt! It has a little separate cup of fruit (sweetened with honey) that you mix in. All natural - no gelatin or other weird ingredients. Here's a link to their website.

For all of you out there who are a little adventurous and say you like the plain, non-fat, organic yogurt... I am the same way. I love mixing it up and adding a smashed-up slightly overripe banana, a few drops each of vanilla and stevia, or some home made spicy applesauce. I'm on a pretty tight budget though, since I'm a student, so I find it much more cost-efficient (as this type of yogurt can be expensive) to buy organic fat free milk and make my own yogurt. It's soo simple and soo much cheaper (not to mention satisfying)! You can look up how to make yogurt on many websites, and if anyone wants to know how I do it, you can just let me know.  Usually, I make it at night and it cultures while I sleep, then I wake up and voila! I have fresh, plain, organic yogurt that I made myself! Fun!!

A word of encouragement: don't buy into the step where it says you need a thermometer and it has to be exactly between these two specific temperatures. I use my pinky finger to test for temperature. When it feels "luke-warm", I go with it

I LIVE ON YOGURT!!!!!!!!! - (and cheese...).

I love yogurt and I spend a lot of money on it but is so worth it.  I eat plain non-fat organic yogurt from Iceland or (since I'm greek) Greece which both make awesome ones.
The greek is totaly plain but it gets better...  The ones from Iceland have all these amazing compination like pomegrannate and ginger or fig and currant.  They are really tasty and an excelent little treat for only 100 calories.  No HFCS, no gelatins, nothing weird inside just pure non-fat milk from happy cows ( I hope Undecided).

I eat Dannon Light N Fit. The white chocolate raspberry is to die for.
I've been trying different kinds. I really like the Breyer's Light at 80 cals per container, it's tasty and creamy. I don't like the texture of Light n Fit, but it improves if frozen (though it kills the probiotics). The weight watcher's (100 cals) isn't bad.

I have 1 day a week where I eat yogurt for breakfast and lunch. That gives me the opportunity to eat stuffed pizza or other high calorie food for dinner, and it probably doesn't hurt my digestion.
